I think both are good. The left is the vigor and purity of youth and the right is hardship and experience. I don't know why the west is so obsessed with the idea that men must always look beaten down and weathered or else they are not "men".

Not quite beaten down and weathered, but rather more rigged and statuesque. Ideal western men are masculine, muscular, angular. Soft, slim males are not seen as ideal unless you're a fujoshi or a gay man who is into twinks.

Japanese cultural sensibilities about that differ from the western, the statuesque overly buff men are considered to be "gay". Effeminate or twink looking men in their culture are treated as a phase in their lives that is to be enjoyed and cherished after which they transfer into more serious masculinity when you're done fooling around. It's why they have such a disparity between character designs.
