The characters, their stories, and how they react to the world as a result is what makes Eva deep and, at times, a learning experience.
It's a heavily character driven show.
There's definitely so much more to it though, and I really do urge you to read up on it, even if just a little
the meaning was to show you how escapism can lead to crippling loneliness and skew your perception of the world into a bitter one

It's been TWENTY FUCKING YEARS, and people STILL think the religious shit is meant to be more than an aesthetic, and STILL think that people who like the show only like it because of the religious shit.
When I first watched the show, I didn't think about the religious bits other than 'oh cool ADAM and Eva' and 'this aesthetic is cool as fuck, it could have been Greek or Hindu or Norse or whatever mythology but they picked Kabbalah' because I was focusing on the gorgeous direction and the characters and the Freudian shit, but then I come to Yea Forums and suddenly everyone's telling me that the religious aesthetic was just an aesthetic and that the thing I never thought was super deep wasn't super deep, so because that was clearly the only reason I liked the show it was actually trash. I pointed out that the people who love Eva seldom use the religious symbols as serious evidence for why it's good, and usually just think of it as 'oh and that's there too', but no, it's STILL being pointed out EVERY SINGLE THREAD even after TWENTY FUCKING YEARS.
