No. It's a pretty vapid show, all flash and no substance.
The main girls are biological sisters, the main villain is their mother and the big bad is a Lavos ripoff. They win but the superpowered costumes are destroyed, all of them.

Not really. It's popular due to Gurren Lagann giving the studio members a fanbase that will see everything they make as pure gold, regardless of its actual virtues.

Oh, well. I liked it and while I like the first half it really picks up for me around the end of the first part, episode 11-ish when things get crazier and crazier for the rest of the series.
