Why is this allowed?

Why is this allowed?

?
Because you didn't buy enough HD space.

There is literally no reason for any game to be bigger than 20gb and even that is being VERY generous

I remember when Age of Conan (the mmo) first came out and it was like an 8GB download. I thought that was huge. Now you have shit like this, Rising Storm 2, and Ark. Fucking Ark is over 100GB at this point.

I got a 3tb hdd six months ago.
It's down to 700mb.

that shitty Elder Scrolls MMO is over 100gb too and it looks like ass

stop being poor, 2TB is minimum space needed today

Whose fault is that?

Don't be ridiculous. You really don't know shit about gamedev. Just High res textures can take 20gb or more.

>stop being poor
Shut the fuck up, Ubisoft.

Just delete some games candy ass

>muh textures
Graphics never needed to be any better than they were at the start of Gen 7. Graphicsfags are a disease.

why do you need so much shit saved? you don't use or look at 98% of it

Competing for disk space is a real thing devs do, same as competing for shelf space.

Seriously, why does it display in MB instead of GB?

It depends on the engine, unreal for instance is insanenly bloated. What with texture maps, normal maps, spec maps (all of which are massive sizes) it really adds up fast.

I made a mod a while ago that was just a few outfits and it was a gig.

Because both consoles have blu ray.

That's fucking retarded considering that people delete games from the harddrive when they're done playing them

rainbow 6 siege used to be 80 gig's fro some fucking reason, like ubi just kept shoving gigs of midget porn as 'assets." Game should not have been more then 40 gigs

The reason is really simple 4k support requires massive textures.

I play 20 mins of everything in my library every day. I need variety. I also only watch 40gb 4k rips of movies. I will not compromise on video quality.

Hitman 2 with the Hitman 2016 campaign DLC is about 150GB in size. It does get a bit ridiculous. But storage space is cheap, so stop crying.

The whole point is keeping you playing longer by letting you have less competing games installed It's more about consoles. Also, if it's big enough a "might come back to it one day" becomes a "fuck redownloading I'll just keep it"

The idea is that you'll go "hmm well I already have this game installed taking up most of my hard drive, guess I'll just keep playing it instead of buying this competing game". Keep in mind these are 60 year olds making these decisions trying to apply shit they learned in the 70s

Bingo. You can thank Microsoft for not submitting to this bullshit last gen. We'd have 50GB game installs a decade ago if "M$ didn't hold back gaming with a DVD drive." Yeah because so much as fucking changed by giving devs global access to 50GB discs and broadband for 45GB patches. Shits fucked.

>being a hoarder

oh it gets worse, all the game content is preloaded even if you haven't bought it all yet. And they'll annoy you to buy the DLC too. Zenimax is ultrajew 5000.

also almost 2/5th of that file size is literally audio files in different languages

It's an actual thing on consoles though, no joke. The regular normie won't swap out his 500GB or 1TB harddrive, so there are only so many games people can keep installed (and thus, have on their minds at a given time).

>I play 20 mins of everything in my library every day
and I thought I was having trouble focusing lmao

>tfw literally me with Battlefront 2 and also the reason I went back to play it
Genius.

works the other way around for me, if a game takes an hour and a half to download it I'm likely to place it once and then immediately uninstall to free up that space and never touch it again

No it doesn't. Let me tell you a little secret. You dont need 4k textures to output 4k resolution. You can also run 4k textures and output at 1080 resolution. It also goes backwards.

This is a shit excuse. Most of the problem with game bloat is uncompressed audio and cut scenes if applicable.
