For me its cause he's completely unique. He's a wooden doll with built-in heavy artillery that uses technicolor rainbow magic. That's fucking rad. I want more of that. Nothing else can fill that hole for me but Geno.
As for other Mario rpg members some are cool but there mostly just hat goombas. Vivian is probably the most unique one, but like mallow is essentially half a lakitu at best and a cloud with a face at worst. And the paper mario party members are just goomba, koopa, boo, koopa again etc
God, what an awful character, he doesn't fit into the Mario aesthetic at all. Should've been a pure red toad

He would be a perfect Mario RPG rep. Hard to say the series isn't relevant. As much as people didn't like the later Paper Mario games, Mario and Luigi was serviceable and early Paper Mario is cult classic material. And the original Mario RPG, is, of course, a masterpiece.

Why in the hell would he be a Spirit in the base game, then? If you're going to put Geno in the game, you want it to be a big surprise. I'm a Genoboi as well and even if he does make it in the whole Spirit debacle accomplished nothing but making those who supported him feel like shit throughout the whole DLC campaign.

I hate how Mario is all Toads these days. So soulless and predictable. If Super Mario Maker 2 were planned in the 90s, it would be Mario creating his own kingdom with characters like Wario and Donkey Kong involved, rather than a gaggle of fucking Toads making a generic Peach castle in a generic green plain.
Lucas and Mewtwo were indeed trophies in the 3DS version of Smash 4, but the big difference here is that the DLC for that game was conceived after the trophies were modeled and the game completed. Ultimate's DLC has been in the works since the ballot wrapped up and long before the game even took shape.
As for what they meant by including the Spirit. we'll find out once the Mi costumes come out with The Hero whether or not it was to tide us over for his Fighter reveal or simply "this was all we could do"

Every one who played Mario RPG in his infancy, wants at some degree Geno in. The question is: >It is unique enough? Yes. >It will fit in Smash? Why would we find out their intentions behind the Geno mii costume if it comes with the hero? Like how are we supposed to know if Geno's costume is to tide us over or all they could do

Smash always was a preservationist series where literal whos can fight alongside Nintendo's biggest stars. That's the whole point of clearly labeling series and offering descriptive and informative features.
An absence of the Mii costume would definitely be a flashing hint light that they're saving Geno's likeness for his actual inclusion.
If the Mii costume returns, while still not a 100% deconfirm, it would indicate that this is as far as they're going to take SMRPG representation and that the remaining 2 DLC fighters are characters prioritized over Geno.
Neither scenario could work out the way common sense tells us they will, but it would be ridiculous to get a slow drip of Spirit, then costume, then fighter all in the same game. It's like unwrapping a present a little at a time over the span of a week, the anticipation just dies.

I wouldn't. It's free money for them. Most of the Geno assets already exist, and it's not like he's an IP square cares about considering they never used him again
To be fair, they may just be dick when it comes to licensing Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest (possibly Kingdom Hearts), they're starved for money at the moment and could use all the positive exposure they can get. I mean they already have the permission to use Geno and Mallow in the game, and all the other 3rd party companies have 3 reps, Square is the only one lagging.
Because if there was absolutely no reference about the game anywhere, people would assume that Sakurai is trying to hide something. Having Geno as a legendary spirit was a strategy to let zoomers know who he is and be like "woah, this spirit is really strong! " so whenever he gets announced, zoomers will recognize him. After his trailer Sakurai will say something cheesy like We told you everyone is here and he was there from the beginning.
Mallow is weather themed black mage cloud prince raised by frogs, c'mon. I know Geno is the bigger push, but I do really like Mallow's character concept as well.

God I fucking hope so. Not only will he finally join alongside the ranks of Banjo, K Rool, and Ridley, but he'll easily BTFO any patternfags and relevancyfags from the Grinch leak debacle.
Not including him with a stage or remixed music would be a wasted opportunity, but if he's included as an extra DLC character, I am 100% ok with that.

Honestly if this character actually ever got in, then that would pretty much symbolize that literally all bets are off for character inclusions.
Like yeah, Banjo & Kazooie, K. Rool and Ridley are all "never evers" too, but they're really not that different from the other characters on Smash's roster. Banjo & Kazooie are protagonists, not unlike Mario, Link, Villager, etc and Ridley and K. Rool are both reoccuring villains, not unlike Bowser or Ganondorf (K. Rool's reveal trailer even began with a montage of the other major villains/rivals in the game). Meanwhile, there’s not many characters similar to Geno’s status. Geno is essentially, a supporting character who only really appeared in one game from a long time ago. The only fighters I can think of that are around that level are guys like Dark Pit, Lucina and Sheik. But the former two are just echo fighters that were made in like a day and the latter is literally just an extension of Zelda’s character. Let’s be objective here, Geno isn’t anymore important than guys like Waluigi, Krystal, Midna, Ghirahim, Ashley and all these other minor side characters that bit the dust and became assist trophies. In fact, he’s probably even LESS important than most of them. So if he ever actually got in, then that pretty much means literally any character, no matter how random or minor they may be, has a chance as long as they have just the right amount of noticeable fan demand and support. Geno’s not getting in though
