Nintendo's cartridges have been nothing more than dolled-up SD cards since the DS. SD cards are notoriously slow AF, it makes a 5400RPM laptop HDD seem blazing fast in comparison.

vita's memory cards were proprietary and held little for what they costed. And you had to buy one with the console. Meanwhile 3DS came with a 4GB SD card and Switch comes with 32GB internal storage

You can always download the games again if you bought them and cloud saves for your data

Assuming you have an adapter/reader for it I think the new card needs to be formatted by the Switch itself then you can copy paste using a PC

SSDs have gotten super cheap at the moment, £80 for 1 TB of regular SATA SSD isn't hard to find, especially if you don't mind chinky brands.
