Post consoles/handhelds that you've worn out by playing them over the years.
Pic related, my gameboy. Had it since christmas 2003, still play on it every once in a while. It's clean (aside from some dust under the screen and in the charger/extension port, can't easily clean that) only 1 dead pixel. model 001, so it's front-lit.
15 years, 3-4 round-country road trips, a scuffle in a parking lot, I'm just happy it still works after all this time. A pristine object means it was never loved.
I love the GBA SP but damn the plastic and paint nintendo used was so shit
Jaxon Baker
Try rubbing alcohol
Jackson Adams
have the semi-rare pikachu version of this, got it on my birthday in 06. still in great condition
Carter Brown
Who /tribal/ gbasp here?
William Anderson
mine is black, it succeeds at hiding some damage with a first look, but even so it's in better condition that yours, i got mine right when the DS was coming around the corner so figures why i didnt use it much.
Lucas Morgan
Fucking dumbass, I loved my Gameboy so much I didn't drop it like a retard
Only have had these for a short while, but here's what they looked like before I did the routine cleaning. When I got them they were an absolute mess (dust everywhere, clock capacitor still in and not cleaned, thermal paste bone dry, etc...). I was able to use the broken left one for extra parts to do some hefty refurbishing and modding and now they work amazingly
*the right one works amazingly, left is just storage for extra parts now
Landon Cooper
Heres my beat up Pokemon GBC, played it nonstop. My SP is also pretty worn out and my OG DS feel off a desk and snapped years after i stopped playing it but at least it plays GBA games.
By cleaning those contacts with 99% isopropyl alcohol?
Jayden Clark
How dare you question my love for my handhelds? There's another option, and that's that you learned that it's possible to take care of your shit. I have my original Gameboy that looks much nicer than your SP, and I must've been like 2 or 3 when I got it and brought it with me everywhere for years.
Lucas White
some rage happened
Tyler Cooper
that won't remove oxidization, you need an abrasive.
Pressed too hard down with a stylus or something, don't really remember.
Thomas Diaz
You're talking about on the flex cable? They look okay in your picture. Have those been cleaned already? Can those cables take any amount of heat, maybe to reflow the solder.
Bentley Miller
not cleaned, oxidized: cleaned: you should use a fiberglass pen to scrape away at the oxidized contact. No need to solder, this will cause damage. The oxidization causes grounding.
Andrew Price
toothbrush + baking soda then
Jayden Long
my OG DS's top screen eventually broke off and i treated it like fine china
Easton Wright
>oxidization This kid surely knows what he's talking about
Joseph Brooks
>The oxidization causes grounding. It causes resistance, user.
Same here, and the touch screen stopped working properly before that. I've had no problems with my DS lite the past 12 years.
Elijah Flores
>A pristine object means it was never loved. Or the exact opposite. Some of us wanted to protect our things as kids and make sure they continued working for as long as possible. Not all of us are those kids that fuck with the hinge constantly and break handhelds because lol kids will be kids. The 2DS was designed to fix that for people with autism, not responsible kids who cherished their gameboys and such like they were made out of raw gold.
Wyatt Ross
I wish I had pictures of my sister's DS Lite. The top screen was only hanging by on by one hinge yet it still worked. The bottom was scratched beyond recognition because she used to chew on her stylus and that in turn ruined the screen, she even scratched the top screen with it. She also broke the charger by throwing it against a wall.
The fuck is wrong with children, I've never come anywhere near breaking a handheld and I've had every single major one since the gameboy color, save for skipping the PSP.
Lucas Murphy
Autistic kids are the ones who take the most care of their things.
Oliver Murphy
That wear looks so similar to the red one I lost maybe ten years ago at a car dealership. Weird.
James Torres
Damn I bet your sister gives a nasty BJ. No offense bro
Nathaniel Martinez
The paint on mine is pretty chipped too, speant way too time with my 3DS and at the same time not enough! Favourite handheld by far 10/10!
Jose Ramirez
I fucking hate that cheap matte finish they use for every nintendo console since DS lite. No mater how careful you are with them they always end up looking like shit.
Jordan Barnes
I remember when my sister and I were kids. Raised by a single parent, we had little and shared everything, including the GBA we got when I was like six after years of combined begging. We got Pokemon Crystal and my sister declared it exclusively hers so that I wouldn't ruin her save, then she lost the cartridge. When she whined and got a replacement, she left that in her jeans that were thrown into the dryer. Years later once she had lost interest in games she asked to borrow a spare GBA:SP from me and my own personal Crystal that I had bought from Gamestop after all of the above to complete my collection of Pokemon gameboy carts. She lost both the gameboy I lent her and the cartridge inside. All because she was too autistic to let me show her how to play Crystal on her laptop, even though she then figured out emulation on her own for that sake years later. I could've told her she wasn't allowed to borrow it in the first place, since I knew she'd lose it, but my sister's a basket case who throws tantrums like a child, and denying her that kind of thing just isn't worth the passive-aggressive fuming for weeks on end.
The stuff on the lid is either super high quality paint or actually molded into the lid because the color only disappears when the plastic itself gets scratched to shit. The decal around the buttons is indeed a sticker of some sort but it's pretty thick, used some top-tier glue, and has a really nice slightly textured surface that grips against your thumb joins really well and after owning one for so long, the completely smooth and flat normal SPs just look naked to me.
Also the two-tone lid/base setup is great, you've gotta admit.
Cameron Nguyen
damn, that shit looks worse than mine. and yet somehow very similar...
my blue one has that darkened look on the top too, what causes that?
Camden Rodriguez
It's not really something I find aesthetically pleasing, but I get why you disagree. I think I would've gone for this edgy weeb one if I wanted a two-tone model.
my lite broke multiple times and my 3ds didn't break once, might be because I was younger when I got the lite though
Nathaniel Wood
Your oily fingers constantly touching it caused the paint to wear away.
Jordan King
by the way that tape is 10 years old by now. Had to put it there because I broke the disc tray. But then I flashed the PSP and never used umd discs anyway.
Nathaniel Collins
I dropped it a couple times, carried it in my pocket (despite owning a carrying case.) Other than that, it's just been everywhere during pretty much every weather condition besides snow storms. I have no idea why the battery cover's melted, though. ( )
>monoprice tablet Neat. They're still making those? I thought Huion was the go-to cheap tablet now.
Joseph Butler
GBASP was the comfiest handheld ever. I sold mine when I got the Nintendo DS, and then I sold my DS when I got my PSP.
Wish I had just kept the m all.
Brody Moore
Eh, this is an older model. I think monoprice might still make cheap tablets, but huion is way cheaper nowadays.
Andrew Murphy
I have that one too, paint is chipped as well, but not nearly as much as yours. Nub also doesn't work anymore despite me never using it much, wish they just put a fucking circle pad on it. I also wish Nintendo would sell the backplate for this 3DS, mine is a bit damaged.
