Is FF7 objetivelly good or is mostly nostalgia googles and the fact games writting standarts are so garbage a shitty anime fanfic is considered the peak of the medium?
>wow a character dies, trully books and films hasn't done this better than videogames since centuries ago.
FF7 was impressive if you're a teenager or kid, is a poorly written anime fanfic.
I'm playing it for the first time and i'm liking it a lot
Jacob Parker
>writting standarts did you do that on purpose or are you merely pretending?
Benjamin Wood
It's nostalgia, it was a really good game that came out before the world went to shit
Jace Ross
>People consider FF7 a masterpiece for its writing
Easton Reyes
I'm playing for the first time now, 8 hours in and loving it.
Jayden Hernandez
The fact that most the character from this game are still relevant today should tell you the impact the game had.
Nathan Jackson
It's alright, I played it for the first time this year, materia was a little half baked but there characters were MOSTLY good, not all of them are worth remembering. The narrative has the advantage of having Sephiroth teased from the beginning so there's a lot of catharsis by the end while other final fantasy games sometimes like to pull the final boss out of literally nowhere.
Andrew King
The story is bad but it's a good game. It was one of the few games that was based in a dystopian rather than a fantasy at it's time. Why people think the characters dying is probably because you're entirely the cause of it. I mean, at the beginning of the game you're violence caused millions of people to die
Also tifa and yuffie
James Rivera
I played it for the first time a year ago. I'm a big JRPG fan (especially FF) but never got around to it. So take what I say with whatever size grain of salt you think that warrants.
I thought it was one of the best JRPGs I've ever played. The combat is pretty standard, but the materia system makes it a lot more interesting because of the absolute wacky bullshit you can do with it.
The characters are all mostly likeable, all have some development, and are mostly really well fleshed out to begin with. The only issue i see with this is there are a few optional characters. So end game cutscenes that have the "whole" party in it will exclude the optional characters which makes it a bit awkward.
The biggest draw to me was the narrative though. Playing as ecoterrorists that you're supposed to empathize with is really interesting on the whole JRPG landscape. Also there's some really forward thinking themes of environmentalism and anti-corporatism. On top of that Cloud is a really interesting character with a bunch of spoilery twists and turns that I won't go into.
It's honestly worth the play. Yeah it's pretty lengthy, but I enjoyed the hell out of it and it'll make your playthrough of the remake a lot more fun to see the differences.
Kevin Kelly
The materia gets better when you get to disk 2-3 (which is long, dont play that long if you hate it). You start getting better stuff like the enemy skills, 2x cuts, and ultima.
>japanese anime storytelling takes high IQ to undersand ????
god forbid you read western literature because you'll have a mental breakdown, faggot.
Adrian Peterson
I played through it for the 1st time a month ago. It holds up well and is well paced, really enjoyed it It doesn't have those boring parts like TitS has.
So it's not nostalgia googles at all.
Andrew Wilson
>You'd better suck, Chuck
Oliver Lee
But I read western literature all the time. Astoundingly, people can like multiple things at once.
Hes literally saying that if you pay attention to a games lore you'll love it retard. He never said anything about western games until you said anything. Consider suicide.
Henry Flores
It's objectively a good game, it does a lot of things right both in the storytelling as well as the gameplay. It is however, in my eyes, not the flawless masterpiece "best game ever made" that many fans stick by.
Colton Brooks
sure, is ok to enjoy anime if you're a kid, is not ok to enjoy anime when you're 30.
I mentioned literature, not games. rent free.
Also, there's better fantasy literature than any JRPG, get better tastes.
Kevin Perry
I played this game only recently and still loved it despite obvious flaws and aging
Isaiah Perez
>sure, is ok to enjoy anime if you're a kid, is not ok to enjoy anime when you're 30. See, that's the kind of pointless sophistry that makes you lose a lot of credit on a mongolian throat singing board.
Logan Reyes
anime is awful when you grow older and cynical.
I rather watch films about a girl cheating on his partner and talking about how he's an abusive loser and how his new more beta guy is more her type than muh animu fanfic about saving the world, huh duh evil villain kills good people and we kill him and save the world.
you're supposed to grow up from that shit bro.
Luis Cruz
you're a girl,we get it
Gavin Reyes
Not really, I can't stand shonen shit because is meant for small children.
may as well claim that you should keep watching sonic as an adult or liking naruto when you're 31.
diferent demographics.
Julian Adams
Yeah yeah yeah, it's your nap time little timmy. Mommy is gonna be upset when she finds out you're awake on a neo nazi website.
Andrew Flores
I think it's objectively good, though if you go into it nowadays you have to take it with a grain of salt. With a game like FF6, I'd argue that it feels pretty polished since they had plenty of time to work out the 2D formula. With FF7 though, there is occasionally a bit of jank you may encounter since this was their first real foray into a largescale 3D RPG. I still think the story is good, the characters are memorable, and that it has a fun combat system. Plus plenty of secrets off the beaten path.
>implying no, there are genuine fanatics that think the story in FF7 is peak of video games
Jace Rodriguez
I replayed it the other day and I'd still call it one of the best JRPGs of all time, it's really well made mechanically and thematically consistent. If you consider when it came out it's obvious to see why it's held to such a lofty standard, there really was nothing like it, even it's predecessor FFVI.
Justin Brown
Midgar is great, then it sort of slumps into okay for the rest of disc 1. And finally picks back up for pretty much the rest of the game.
Ryan Martin
Its a bit of both. Its a good game but people have nostalgia goggles for angtsy advent children cloud but whats atcually good is clouds real story about his insecurities and tifa helping him discover his true past, plus the feeling of going on a massive quest that spans the entire world. Materia system was fun but made every character feel the same imo when you could just give any character any spell.
Jaxon Collins
Amazing game and always will be. I think the only thing that sort of puts many off is those awful chibi models but had they still been chibi but with the details of the chibi models from FF9 I think people would be much more accepting of them today.
As for other issues, I would say the game is too easy and materia can be pretty broken but that is also part of the fun. I want to beat this game at least once more before I die.
Easton Gomez
>wow a character dies, trully books and films hasn't done this better than videogames since centuries ago. It matters more in a video game, because in other mediums you're a passive observer while in video games you're an actor. you have to push on and move the story forward, and you spend a lot more time with this characters. Killing a playable character is much more personal than killing an unplayable character. There's much more to the game than that, and after that event.
Cameron Reyes
>you spend a lot more time with this character Never once put her in my party because know she would die
Then you must enjoy it very much, because you form sentences like a fucking 8 year old. Either that or you're some third world shitter.
Alexander Peterson
Except it kind of isn't. I never used her as a party member therefor I didn't miss having her in battle after she died. And the only times really spent with her character are then early on in Midgar and in Temple of the Ancients, which is a dungeon I dispise. Hence, I spent little time with the character and it was hard to care that much.
Jordan Gutierrez
>WOW I GOT A STORY SPOILED FOR ME AND NEVER MADE MEANINGFUL CONNECTIONS BECAUSE I HAD METAKNOWLEDGE WHAT SHITTY WRITINGGGGGG
Tyler Roberts
>Except it kind of isn't How many hours did it take between the moment you first met her and the moment she died?
David Peterson
I didn't say the writing was bad, why are you turning into a seething fanfag? I'm just stating that because of knowledge of that twist, I never got much into Aerith and know many people who had a similar experience.
Luke Barnes
I did not find Red13's backstory well done at all
you get to cosmo canyon and it just dumps the whole thing on you, then youre done and you have no reason to ever go there again, like its the only reason the city even exists other than the materia stuff
and how the fuck does a petrified statue continue to repel invaders
Jose Morales
FF has a long legacy of characters that may seem meaningful at first but end up totally useless and have no real relevancy to anything at all. Red XIII is among the number, as are Freya Crescent, Kimahri Ronso, Gau, Penelo, Oerba Yun Fang, and Gladio.
Josiah Rodriguez
So how many hours should I play until I can know if it's for me or it isn't?
I have been playing for the first time several hours in and out this year and I haven't been able to get into it. I find it extremely slow in all aspects, the conversations are, moving around the maps "exploring" is, the combat is slow as well, and all I want when I'm playing is to get to the next saving point so I'm just getting through it waiting for it to end. I've been playing on PS4, by the way.
Anthony Cox
have you left midgar yet?
Mason Hernandez
I don't know how people are still surprised by this. Each FF only has very few characters that are truly relevant to the main story. Others have their own little arc but ultimately contribute little to the narrative. I would argue. FFVI - Terra, Locke, Celes and Edgar FFVII - Cloud, Tifa and Aerith FFVIII - Honestly only Squall FFIX - Zidane, Garnet and Vivi FFX - Tidus and Yuna Everyone else is there to add some flavor to the cast and overall journey, but are expandable. Come at me.
Luis Martinez
Locke and Edgar aren't really relevant. I'd say Auron is pretty important. Eiko is almost important, but too much of her is just an expansion of Garnets importance, and flavor for Vivi+Zidane.
Oliver Jackson
>>wow a character dies, trully books and films hasn't done this better than videogames since centuries ago. Name a more iconic death FF7 was impressive if you're a teenager or kid, is a poorly written anime fanfic. for the time it was impressive no other game had the level of custimization, open word and content that ff7 offered.
Christopher Martinez
>FFX - Tidus and Yuna with out auron the plot would not exist you do realize that
Chase Sullivan
>FF7 is nostalgia googles. >writting standarts are so garbage a shitty anime fanfic is considered the peak of the medium?
no one cares DSP, fuck off take sip some gin you fuck
Eli Rivera
Lol you guys are correct. Forgot X’s best character. But you get my drift.
Hudson Taylor
>FFVIII - Honestly only Squall No elone or luguna replay the game user
Juan Perry
>But you get my drift. For sure
Cooper Diaz
>the only character who had any idea what the fuck was going on bit it and the rest of the game is basically playing catch-up to her
Lincoln Cruz
I recently watched someone blind play through it for the first time and it holds up. The characters are fun and have good chemistry, which helps carry the otherwise basic story. The plot twist isn't Aerith dying, it's the David Lynch shit you get into at the crater
Kayden Diaz
Try spelling the words correctly, and I may take your opinion on literature seriously.
Anthony Williams
Ellone functions as plot device yes, but the game is really only focusing on squall and his story. Laguna’s story is fragmented as shit and doesn’t contribute all that much.
Aaron Rodriguez
Funny how these threads never come up about Nintendo games
It's almost like the delusion is real
Gavin Peterson
>I recently watched someone blind play through God I love seeing people play through games blind. So frustrating when it's live and they have one guy constantly spoiling everything though because they're trying to help.
Bentley Allen
Reading your post makes me seriously question the validity of any opinion you may have about writing quality.
Jaxson King
I'm playing the game for the first time blind because I wanted to prepare for the remake. Currently looking for Aerith after the Temple of the Ancients.
I'm honestly having fun - the party members are likable and even the shitty NPCs Palmer have some sort of personality. So far Aerith's my favorite character, and I understand that there's a dating mechanic? I'm sure that she'll end up with Cloud in my playthrough.
Jordan Howard
Once you get out of Midgar, you've already experienced enough of the absolute basic gameplay and enough of the primary cast to develop an opinion.
Liam Turner
Nah the musical score is still unmatched.
Adrian Myers
>does something in a videogame effectively for the first major time >movies did it first!
Thats what you sound like zoomer
Adrian Powell
thirding 'get through midgar'. Only two more party members join you after Midgar and they're optionals. Red XIII joins you very late in Midgar but he's basically a non presence for most of the game.
Sebastian Turner
Apart from Cait Sith, i felt like the cast is one of the best of FF. All uniquely different, but all having solid reasons to join the fight
Gavin Thompson
>tfw Cait Sith is a better character in a parody than the actual game remake better fix this shit maybe actually play as Reeve for the finale
Luis Sullivan
Why did you post an image of FF7 while describing FF6
Christopher Johnson
I honestly feel like Cait Sith *only* exists for them to be able to save the party in the third act/provide exposition. He's a complete non presence otherwise
Cooper Sanchez
Red XIII >wanted to go home, only joins because grandpa tells him to Cid >only wanted to go to space, has nothing else to do so just goes along Yuffie >just wants to steal your materia Aerith >got caught up in shinra crap, really only happens to start playing a role by chance
Ryan James
>wow a character dies, trully books and films hasn't done this better than videogames since centuries ago. Actually, this is the "cover twist" that people keep talking about, causing the "real twist" to be hidden away from public eye even 20+ years later (unless you played Crisis Core/watched the Last Order OVA, I guess). It probably wasn't intended as such, but it's a lucky coincidence that makes it possible for complete newcomers to play through the game while still being able to witness THAT moment (pic related) and feel the chills from it.
>hipsters choice that would really only apply to people who claim some really low selling/lesser known FF is their favorite. Most of these went at least 5 to 10 million copies sold, liking any of those is hardly trying to avoid the mainstream.
Aiden Cooper
>the Protagonist not actually being the protagonist That's not quite it though. It's more like the supposed anti-hero protagonist mellowing into being a hero protagonist turns out to instead being a mob character that you witness becoming a hero protagonist throughout the game in retrospect.
Levi Perry
It's a lot better than FFX
Blake Lopez
Cait Sith isnt a character. Reeve was there the whole time.
Angel Garcia
>keep watching sonic as an adult or liking naruto when you're 31 No one should do this
Henry Lee
nardo shitpudding is legit good tho
t 32 yo
Carter Lewis
The mechanics are fine, I just don´t like the plot and characters so I´m not really into it
Nicholas Bell
You know what man? You're 100% right. But how does that make it any less than what it is? If people just wanna play their anime fanfiction who gives a shit. Hell, I went to see that stupid fucking alligator movie thats Sharknado tier just cause I wanted to see some silly shit. Not every game has to be a masterpiece for people to want a remake, they just wanna have some fun, fuck around for a bit and quit playing it.
Jaxon Carter
>there exist fanatics that think ____ no shit really? Thanks for telling us user.
