I want a Dragon Quest thread

Been blazing through the series for a while now, all I have left is v, vi, vii, and ix to play. Just finished IV and it was fuckin great

Glad you liked it OP
4 was the first DQ I played, Ive now played them all and its still my favorite

Is DQ11 a good place to start if you've never played a DQ game?
It's like FF in that they're not connected, right?

Actually majority of main titles ARE connected but its kind of a loose connection and only hardcore fans will notice or care
11 is pretty great to start with

such soul

>Playing DQ1
>Too underleveled to save the princess
>Too underleveled for the southwestern part
>Too overleveled to reasonably grind in every other accessible part of the map

Is Hoodoo Gooroo a nigger?

I NEED MONSTERS NEWS HORI PLEASE

does it have a gun?

Hopefully in 2 months at TGS

9 was my first one but I never finished it, I played it when I was like 14

11 was the first one I played going back into the series and I finished it and fucking loved it. I'm the OP so like I said ive been playing through all of them and can say 11 would be a totally fine first Dragon Quest game. If you have a switch wait for that version to release to get the full experience.

I don't think you're in the right spots for grinding then. DQ1 is literally grinding: the game

Just grind and you'll be fine. Google a good grinding spot if you're having that much trouble

I really liked the idea of torneko but he ended up being the character i never used. His damage output sucked, he couldn't use any strong weapons and he didn't know any spells. Whenever I was forced to use his as a last resort he'd get his ass handed to him. Was there a way ti use him outside of battle that i missed

What was the point of him?

To sell you the mystery dungeon spinoffs

This is a japanese fantasy priestess

Oh yeah, those spinoffs. Those never got brought overseas did they

One did, the second one on PS1
They are pretty good

Playing XI right now I am up to Zwaardrust, does anyone know how long I have left until I get jade?

Been a while since I played, what's your party right now? Last person you recruited?

Last person was Sylvando

1-3 are connected. Everything else isn't just names and places are reused.

Just started DQ4 NES and in the middle of Alena's chapter.

Forgot places but when you get to Dundercile or however it's spelled they join you.

Not true, 4-6 are connected too

Just with same items and towns but the plots doesn't really have anything really to do with each other. Hell would you say DQ8 is connected to DQ4 just because you can fight Ragnar and his monster team?

Holy shit, are you me?
Been doing the exact same thing last couple of months, just about to start V.

They're coming up then

How you liking the game so far

Sylvandos the best character in the game, personality-wise desu

I've played and beat 1,2,3,4, and 8 over the past two months and I'm still not burnt out. Jesus Christ I love dragon quest

>Can fight ragnar I'm 8

Holy shit I don't remember this (I played 8 before 4 so maybe that's why I didn't notice)

Not fight him just his monsters in the arena.

Attached: ragnar.jpg (260x194, 12K)

Nah I got what you meant but still fuck, wish I caught that

Dont worry you will get to 7 eventually

Wrong
1,2,3,4,5,6 and 11 are all connected

Played Six (DS version) and Nine a couple of years back and loved them, so going to this I honestly wish I played more of the series's prior because I am really enjoying it, the dynamic of the party as well is really comfy and everyone gets time to shine, I just like how the series sticks to turn based combat in an era were square loves throwing active time shit everywhere. I hope the switch version and hero in smash bring more attention to the series as I definitely want to try the others after this.

>playing dq vii
>over 20 hours played
>take a quick look at a walkthrough TOC to see how far I'm in
>what the fuck there are classes?

4 is among my favorites in the series. I'm currently playing through 7 on 3DS and 1 on GBC and I love them both.
I tried to play the SNES version of 1 but I love the GBC graphics and soundchip more. I dunno I think it fits DQ 1 better.

I'm interested to start 7 eventually

Is it still the longest DQ or did 11 take it's spot?

I literally just started 8 the other day, haven't even finished the waterfall cave yet. It's my first DQ.

I think 7 is the longest with 80+ hours on 3DS. On PSX it could last for 100+ hours IIRC

Hope you enjoy it, Yangus is a bro

Here's a tip, you're very far away from it, but when you unlock the casino make sure you exploit the fuck out of your autosave feature to get fucking rich and get the best armor and whip in the game. You can find easy tutorials on YouTube, just keep it in mind.

Looks like the 3DS port beats xi by just three hours or so

Unironically the next town over

Zing!

DQ7 is long purely based on just main story from start to final boss. DQ8, 9, and 11 (10 is just an MMO) are maybe longer if you include the post game content.

And forgot I had that image there.

>10 overseas never ever

I finished V (DS version) recently, story and gameplay were great but I wasn't a huge fan of the monster recruiting system since it was pure RNG. I'd have preferred if there was some kind of strategy to it, like in SMT or Pogeyman for example.

Is Toriyama a pervert? Just look to this swimsuit, these smoking hot tanned girls...

Master Roshi was his self-insert

Monster recruiting is there mostly so you don't spend half the game completely alone, specially since it takes a good while before you get your first Human party member
Also some recruit rates are so low there's no way you'd be alone if you never run from a fight

Attached: 1555350846456.jpg (900x900, 74K)

Meant to say recruitment rates are so high
Fuck being sleep depraved

Would say he's more like King Kai. He's a old man that loves really awful old man puns. Even when he was young based on Dr. Slumps and early Dragon Ball.

Yeah I get that and I didn't mind the system as a whole, just the fact that it was RNG-based. I heard some horror stories of people trying to recruit a Cureslime for hours but luckily I got just one by chance.

>Is Toriyama a pervert?

Attached: 1562304760270.jpg (576x571, 33K)

>That helmet on the hero
Is dqv a sequel to it? Getting near the end of the game and I just noticed it

DQ 4-5-6 are a trilogy about a something called Zenithia which plays an important role in their stories. So yeah you'll find some common stuff like the Zenithia armor set

Toriyama didn't draw this one

But the "bathing suit" you're talking about is an actual piece of clothing in DQ4, and it's actually a leotard

So I guess you're still kinda right, as long as it was toriyama who designed the leotard

>tfw I want physical copies of all the dragon quest games in some form and I was able to buy a copy of V but it was basically 60 fucking dollars

At least I got the most expensive one out of the way I guess

Attached: 1561712991987.jpg (500x667, 37K)

I thought 6 on DS was the most expensive? At least it is for the European version

>At least I got the most expensive one out of the way I guess
user...

The Gameboy version of 3 is only like 50 right...?
I see some for like 50, it's around the same price just barely

I got my GBC copy of 3 for 15 bucks

A loose GBC cart of 3 is around that price nowadays, but counterfeits for handheld Nintendo carts are very common. If you want it CIB it runs about $80+.

Fuck

Who was the better sister though, Maya or meena

We might actually have a chance now thanks to Smash. Dragon Quest has actually been getting popular here ever since the Hero was revealed.

Doubt there'd be releases of the older games

New ones sure

If this can happen there's still hope, no matter how small, for DQX in the West.
