I feel like switching from SAM to RDM only because I feel like it's nice to be able to do both ranged and melee attacks. I feel like in some fights you can sit in the back and cast spells and then switch to close ranged attacks instead of being stuck doing either straight ranged or straight melee damage.
Also they seem pretty damn fashionable, but so does SAM. Actually I like most outfits and armor in this game. Heavy armor looks sexy on DRG or DRK, hell even PLD look good in it. Hard to settle for just one class since they all have nice aesthetics.
New to tanking, been leveling mostly via dungeons with the occasional ifrit and king moogle(I don't know why I keep getting this) trials, how different is it for tanking 24 man alliance raids?
RDM is more fashionabru than SAM.
I might be a "good" MNK but the point is that it has by far the least amount of recorded parses, meaning it's less competitive to get higher percentiles than literally any other job.

Most alliance raids they just end up splitting you into 3 "full parties" and have each party do something different. Effectively it's the same thing as an 8 man party, but there's two other 8 man parties doing shit which is mostly irrelevant to you.

raid environment is different from a SSS dummy because there is no stat bonus from party members, no raidwide buffs, no DNC, no eye, no AST cards, etc. Are you seeing improvement in your fights, or do you stay in the same area damagewise regardless?

Right now no one know how to play SMN. So you can get EZ parse with minimum efforts
Adding on to this, are you using food every fight? What about potions? While you dont need either of these for EX fights, they still boost your damage and most people use them for that reason alone
It really is seriously uptime and positioning for 95% of your potential damage. BLM rotation is piss easy. The last like 5% is seeing where you can get your big moves within buff windows without diminishing that uptime.
Last fight I brought in Tinctures for the opener and Phase 2. It added a solid 400 DPS and brought me from my earlier 36 to a 58, ACT shows like 11-12k in Phase 1 and 2 but the Add phase just completely drops off to like 9k so i've been stuck hovering around 10.5

Here's a secret bro you can be in melee range with any of the ranged jobs and lose nothing.
So many dungeons were in the long term irrelevant with barely any great resonance to the plot. Shisui, the starting dungeon, the Xaela trial. In Shadowbringers each dungeon involves fighting an almighty archangel lightwarden that directly impacts the zone you inhabit, or involves witnessing the end of the first world or learning how Cid's successors got the crystal tower to go back in time. Jazz area was a bit wanting. But that disparity really drove home an irritation with SB in retrospect. SB's dungeons felt like "Well, this is where you have to have a dungeon so fuck it here you go".
RDM rezzing is so goddamn sexy I miss it so much but in SB RDM was boring compared to SAM. That rez though, could be so clutch.

add phase is tricky and I've only done the fight as melee, but still in the same boat as you where uptime is inconsistent. Part of it is most likely due to DPS going north not being the norm for strategy, but I think ranged and casters should have it a bit easier since they can target puck or pease a bit easier than melee.

Vast majority of the time in FF14 when you're in a group with more than 1 tank, one of the tanks will just turn off tank stance and be a DPS.
Unless the fight has some weird rare mechanic that requires you to tank swap or spread adds apart, just be a DPS

My bad, Amaurotine ruins should be more advanced than Allagani. But Allagan had only faced 4 calamities (3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th) while Amaurot had 7 (the original plus the 6). I am sure we will find Ascian ruins on the source eventually, they just are going to be far more rare than Allagan.

No. Flamethrower is a pain in the ass desu. No autos, and no heat generated. Priority I believe is bioblaster, then flamethrower for about 3 seconds(treat it like a 300 potency aoe) then you'll want to auto crossbow or spread shot while weaving in richochet.

Probably GSM or ALC. GSM because every single raid patch tanks and occasionally other jobs want crafted right side and ALC for the cancer mats needed for other jobs.
I'm somebody different replying here, but all this confuses me a bit more.
I just did that fight on WHM for the first time, and I healed that phase with ogcd heals, lily heals, and precasted regens (while the adds were not targetable) on both tanks almost exclusively. And I ended the fight at 6.1k even though I don't really know what I'm doing. Competent uptime on casts meant that I could still do average healing while keeping up acceptable damage.
How do fix SMN:

Like you definitely don't have to forsake all healing duties to parse well on healer. Just have good uptime and everything else just comes together because of exactly what you said. It's also definitely not because my co-healer was carrying the load either. They actually were doing half the healing and half of the damage I was.

Bloody Tomato Juice and Grilled Rail are both quest rewards and were like 2k each in my world so I just went mental with that. Was good money at the start since end game food was 30-40k but now it's dropped to 20k. Hell some of them are not worth crafting since the ingredients are just as expensive.

Why do people think Titania is harder than Innocence? My experience clearing both of these was the opposite.

They changed tanks a bit but in most cases just made them easier (you'd have to take your hands off the keyboard for a minute to lose aggro with tank stance now and there's no reason to ever have it off now). GUN is fun though.
Otherwise nah the formula is the same, Warrior of Darkness is purely a story element. That said, I'd still recommend coming back just to play the story, see what Eden is about (coming out tomorrow) then quit if you don't like it. It's unironically the best FF story since X.

GL gives 10% per stack. It's just not multiplicative. So it's 40% instead of 30% + 10% = 43%. Which isn't that bad at all. The other buffs are multiplied by that extra 3% too though.

Honestly, either make Wildfire the STRONGEST thing in their kit and not on par with Disassemble Drill/Air Anchor or just rework that skill. Also Flamethrower needs either a potency or flavour change beacuse its awful.
Wait, why are we delaying Phoenix Trance until Tri-Disaster is back up on Cooldown? I know it’s to have Tri-disaster ready to reuse instantly, but I thought we’d number crunched and figured out it’s more worth it to get into Trances ASAP and hardcast the dots after Phoenix? Why are we delaying our burst phase by a good 20-30 seconds just for Ruination?
AST could've been left alone if they had just buffed WHM. Instead they gutted both healing (partially, they increased AoE potencies to compensate for the loss of Sect bonus and all heals are still cheaper than WHM and SCH) and the cards when if a nerf really was warranted, they should've just weakened the cards and oGCD's. It's funny since if they felt nerf was the only approach, then where the fuck are the SCH nerfs? Gutting the DPS kit and making it dreadfully boring like AST isn't a nerf to what makes SCH so strong. SE's healer favoritism is so shit.

It's optimal to use on large pulls with bio, AA and BS on cooldown. I guess you could make it do 200 per second and shorten it to 5 seconds but it's nice to set and rest your fingers laughing as the other DPS tries their hardest.

I just use TD at 51-52 seconds on DwT cd. If you do this you'll always have it back where you can weave it going into DwT. You just have to hardcast dots 50% of your timers instead of 33%
The kicker is it's not suffering to do it since you have a 10 second window to put your dots back up and you'll never drop your Fester Ruin bonus or DoT damage.

You can get lucky with a ninja in the group and a dragoon, the latter has been multiplying like rats so not uncommon to happen. It's possible to get orange yes. I've gotten 94 and that was without food and potions. I'm sure someone who is slightly better than me + uses consumables can hit.
