It's honestly very, very good. I've never played the original but I am a fan of kart racers (Mario Kart, Sonic Racing Transformed) and even with the 30fps lock it's an incredibly solid game. Online play is not for casuals though - I've been playing for a few weeks now and only won my first race yesterday with Tawna. There's tons of people that are insane at boosting and know every shortcut. Luckily it's still fun to play and there's tons to do and unlock in single player.

The idea of unlocking new stuff and neat little challenges is all well and good but they had to smack that time limit on it. Makes getting things less of a neat reward and more like a job. that one is not about reserves, it's about jump timing, also before using the second ramp to cross over, try building up some jumps at the first ramp and jump at the EDGE of the second ramp

Because it's probably the hardest map to continually keep USF up on. It even makes Cortex Castle look like baby shit. Between the figure 8 turn, the USF from the pad before the finish line being the higher tier USF as well, the lack of area to build reserves before the figure 8, it's a fantastic challenge. Actually keeping the USF from the pad before the finish line is a puzzle of in itself. Let alone finding space to build reserves on the limited, very straight and jumpy area before the figure 8. And then you also HAVE to do a turbo on the pad immediately at the end of the figure 8 otherwise you lose USF.

Just got the rocket decal. In top 5% of both championship and nitro leaderboards, only playing during wumpa time really each night.

Mostly just playing with whatever character or kart I want unless I'm specifically expecting to get 500+ nitro at once.

There's a reason why the classes are separated by beginner, intermediate and advanced. Speed is supposed to be better than the rest once you're good enough to control it (although accel does have some pros over speed when it comes to racing). Now the problem that comes with that is character variety.

Whats the deal with USF in Twilight Tour? The first USF boost isnt as fast as the 2nd one? I dont get it.

Different tiers of USF. Also noticeable in Hyper Speedway (last one before finish line) and Deep Sea Speedway. Tiny Arena also has a faster USF than say Cortex Castle or N. Gin Labs.

Why does Ross have such a weirdly shaped head?

Yes it is, but the USF from the turbo pad before the finish line/last portal gives you a turbo speed that is faster than the turbo pad from the one in front of the starting line. The same concept exists on Twilight Tour with the second USF pad in the bazaar giving a turbo significantly faster than the first USF pad.

The only reason to buff either would to put them on parity with Accel/Speed in time trials, but that seems kind of pointless. Would be better off just allowing people to filter Time Trial records by class and letting people duke out setting best times with all four classes. There's enough skill discrepancy in online to allow variation in class stats.

If anything, just readjust the bars to show the true stats as they currently are.

CTR has always rewarded people for playing with whichever character they want as long as they have a decent skill level.

On the topic of Twilight Tour, I noticed that at least Easy bots have a very, VERY hard time crossing into the market via the super boost pad. Like if they're not Accel they'll just drive off the pad and not make the jump, respawn, and try again. And they'll do this for the entire race. It's surreal.

That jump is pretty tight. I've failed to make while clocked or even slowed from getting hit

the ai that controls you after the race has trouble clearing it too and that one is on rails regardless of how fast you're going

The key phrase was "highest level of play" not "theoretically inferior." Your online lobby is not the highest level of play. Chances are you do not play turn characters or any class optimally and neither do the other people in your lobby. The race is more than likely going to come down to whoever makes the least and smallest mistakes or item rng. If someone on a speed characters consistently does perfect runs, you're probably losing to them regardless of your character's stats. Maybe different regions and consoles have higher average skill levels, but it's easy to win over 90% of races using turn on USA PS4.

If the global leaderboards are anything to go by there's probably only a couple of hundred people worldwide that know what they're doing with speed characters, go down far enough until you start seeing non-speed/accel characters more frequently and that'll be the cutoff point for online players as far as class selection goes for that map. Just imagine that if there are ~350k players on ps4 and you're able to post times in the top 1k tt with any class then you're probably going to win most of your online games regardless of class unless another person who can post similar times shows up. Encountering someone else who can set a top 100 time is probably even rarer.

I like twilight tour and the whole Egyptian aesthetic but the frequency its popping up just makes it horrible after a while, granted after the first grand prix we shouldn't see it so often.

Plus the challenges surrounding the map bring out the worst in many players from people being asses and personally hounding anyone from getting anywhere near 1st if they're Tawna to people letting a Tawna player get into first, follow em the entire match then drop 3 rockets on em at the last jump just to make em fail at the last second.

This and then powerslide to keep the blue flame.

you need to hit a special boost pad and keep it by power sliding perfects constantly

only certain tracks have boost pads that give you USF (the blue fire)
the strategy is to keep drift boosting afterwards without hitting walls to keep maintaining your USF for as long as you can.

A little tip, that I wish somebody told me

make sure they're PERFECT boosts, and not nromal boosts, or you won't build reserves and keep your blue flame

Yeah, but the grind is harder offline as the payout is lower than you get for the amount you get in last place online, so if you're looking to unlock, do the story mode unlocks, and try to get gud online but expect to lose

On weekends the payout is very high as they give a bonus online, and the bigger the track, the higher the reward.

It's a high risk and high reward sort of game, i have yet to see how much i get from placing first on one of these stages.

Yeah, there's a bunch of offline GP challenges. Some refresh daily, some weekly and you always get a little bit of Nitro for every race.
For coins though, you're better off playing online since there's a daily multiplier.

Are you using a speed character? If not, there's your answer. If yes, then your driving lines are not good enough because you're not performing perfect u-turns at every single corner like the WR players.

I'd say Dragon Mines or Tiny Temple for the level of near perfection the latter requires. Using speed characters in general makes it far easier.

Dragon Mines was the only one that was legitimately challenging. Tiny Temple is easy since it's by far the simplest track for maintaining USF.

The key is to drift boost when you use the turbo pad at the end and maintain that. If you can do that twice you'll certainly ace it. Crash Cove is similar I only barely made it though fucking hell.

Guys, guys i'm literally 50 in the leaderboards for cortex castle, my favorite track. I can almost feel the wr, I just need to scratch 6 seconds off my time. The wr is 1:50, and i'm 1:56. Thing is, I have done everything perfectly already. Like, i'm maintaining my blue fire for the entirely of the last 2 laps and keeping normal sacred fire for the entire first lap.
