Cuts are definitely likely, but its way too early to estimate how many will be cut, considering ultimate hasn’t even finished its DLC. For all we know, the next game will have no cuts, but it’s incredibly unlikely, considering that sakurai himself that they probably won’t be able to bring everyone back again.

Ultimate doesn't count because it's an anomaly in terms of roster size
Avg # of new slots = 13
51 (smash 4 base roster) + 13 = 64 slots
Melee % newcomers: 53.85%
Brawl % newcomers: 46.15%
Sm4sh % newcomers: 33.33%
Ultimate % newcomers: 14.47%
Avg %=36.95
36.95% of 64 = 23.65 = 24 newcomers
64 (total roster) - 24 (newcomers) = 40 (returning veterans)
82 (smash ultimate roster w/ dlc) - 40 (returning veterans) = 42 (cut veterans)
There will be 42 cuts minimum in smash 6

I can understand third parties not being safe due to rights holders being cunts (looking at you, Square Enix), but there isn’t going to be some mass culling for the next game. Sakurai wants to temper expectations, but he’s also a perfectionist who would probably put in EVERYONE’s dream slot if given enough time.

I'm in favor of a reboot that overhauls most of the veteran movesets.
