Bit Crusade 3 is the sequel to the two full games (1-1 to 8-4) I created within Mario Maker 1, reminiscent of traditional Mario levels, and (eventually) utilizing all 5 game styles. Meant to be played in sequence as an adventure game, starting at the 1-1. There's secrets to find, alternative pathways and other goodies as well. Try to find all 5 Power Pepperonis hidden in each stage to access the super secret bonus room at the end of each level.

i made the level, i almost didn't do it but the point was about going for another mushroom, i.e going back to addiction. I put the second check point flag, just for that part so you dont lose any progression instead, when originally the flag was just before the poison chase to simulate rehabilitation again.

Just gonna post my most recent stages, as not to have a huge list of levels.
Did up another level, around the concept of thwomps and what can stop them. I'm sure there's still a ton of ways the stage can break broken (I ran into like 3 or 4 during various course clears, tried to patch them up but who knows) so any feedback's welcome on it.
I think the freezing enemies part would be hard to implement
My levels are better than all the levels other people make.

Good first level. I felt like the difficulty spiked a bit hard on the cannon portion though and kept dying there.
It lets you easily slide through small gaps as big mario, for one thing.
Did you try the bottom path instead?

You can leap off a crane while losing zero momentum though.

Not really sure what's goin on with this course. Hate sayin that cause you deliberately took time to design some of the structures in it, and I didn't feel like anything special was done with the night theme and the dry bones. And then it was just over after a minute. Am I missin somethin here?
Gonna post my own stage now, Glowing Ghost House. Golden Pinwheels level is no longer available, I deleted it cause I didn't like it anymore. Also bummed to see my Maker score sank from 226 to 208. A well lit ghost house with three super mushroom blocks, two 1-up blocks, plenty of coins, and fairly placed checkpoints. And it's still gettin booed? Shit.

If you are playing through your course before uploading it and repeatedly getting hit in the same area, there is a problem with that area.

I feel like I can't give honest criticism in posts attached to my levels so I usually reply to posts anonymously. I can't play the levels of every person that plays mine because I get a lot of plays daily, so I just try to pick at least a few in the thread to play, and at least that way I can post something I can be relatively certain they will read. Other than levels posted in threads, I just follow people I found here that I really like and play their levels.
With that attitude I doubt it
I did but found that more difficult, the crane kept catching me when I jumped in shell and dragged me to spikes or I would accidentally brush against the top of a cannon and lose my "don't touch the ground status".
Still had fun but probably won't beat it, I've played through the first segments a dozen times and kind of had my fill. I'm not generally a big player of these dense difficult challenges though so I may not be your target audience.

You can figure it out, it just kind of seemed like maybe you knew some weird twister tech so I spent an embarrassing amount of time trying to squeeze through.
But eventually you realize one doesn't fall, but none of them fall when you're above so you go to investigate.

What was the intended thing to do with the spike shell and on/off at the end? I just left them undisturbed and spin jumped over the thwomps.
Enjoyed the course overall but that ending was a bit confusing to me. I feel like the course would have been stronger without adding the On/Off at the end and just staying with the spinning fire, thwomp, and snake block theme all the way through.

How do I make a fun ice level? I'm tempted to make a vertical sublevel so the player can slip off ledges and just lose a bit of progress. Red Koopas are obviously required for max aesthetic

Okey anons, it's the last update on this level. The theme was to experiment with the difficulty, so you are able to choose between easy, medium and expert.
The clear time is important on MM, so the reward for higher difficulty would be the less time you take to finish the course.
I wanted people to commit to the difficulty so there is a "trick" once you choose a difficulty it's over. You have to run with it.

What is the best tag combo and why is it Puzzle-solving, Themed?
You were supposed to throw it at the on/off switch, and it'd bounce off and back on your head. Then you could just run under them and they'd all die
The best thing to use snake blocks for are timers, since they pass through one-way gates no matter the orientation and can detonate Bob-Ombs by pinching them. I made a couple of levels around that concept, but otherwise I don't think Snake Blocks are inherently fun to ride on.

I feel like the middle difficulty takes longer to clear given the spikes everywhere, even if you can damage boost through some of the challenges. I never checked to see if the Boom Boom drops a key or not, but the top route seems a lot easier than the middle one since there's very little timing involved on the Thwomp jumps.

Key path is an expert path. If someone did all medium there would be no key, and if they actually wanted to find it they would have to play it again.
Seems that's the issue with medium difficulty. My playtest suggested an average skilled player could be able to pass it on a whim.
The problem is that time is the only reward, so I would had to do the easy part ultra slow for the average skilled player so it's faster to do the medium part. But couldn't figured out a way to not punish a good player on the easy so it could take the medium or expert

I almost timed out with the fucking key. Do you realize how fucking shit that is? Finding all your dumb ass shit and then having an easy key death. Not to mention no safety coin, I could have easily died as soon as I got the final coin because of the order I did them in. I don't think you realize how big of a deal this is. After you get the key you still have to do dumb shit. I wasted a ton of time because I wanted to get whatever was in that question mark block. So I had to safely take a hit, go back hit it, then go through the pipe and get my power up back because I was terrified of dying. And then realize what I had to do. I play smw hacks, I've never played mario maker. I'm very lucky I remembered seeing someone eat fire with yoshi. So I had to go and get yoshi, on a timer. I had less than 100 seconds on the clock when I got the key.
I am so furious. I can't even coherently express it.

The original mario maker sucked, I legitimately found more good levels on launch day of mario maker 2 than in unlocking every amiibo costume in mario maker 1, seriously the boo button and required 1 like for endless mode gets rid of insane amounts of trash
Is it still considered enemy spam if you fill the Forest water with a line of Spinies in 3D World? I wanted to have the poison water, but this is the only way to make it inaccessible without the night theme option.

Formerly 'House of Cursed Springs,' after receiving some feedback regarding the lack of clarity and enemies not mixing well with puzzles, I took both into consideration and I decided to upload an improved version. Some puzzles were slightly altered, but not to a major extent. Enemies are still present because I also want to make it at least somewhat challenging, but their numbers decreased. Also, I wish the level description's character limit was a bit higher since I was barely able to fit what I wanted to say about my course. Enjoy.

Did you know you can "skip" the snakeblock section? i jumped on the snake and long jumped on the tthird fire bar cube, than move onto the thwomp in only few sec. It happened to me accidentally after many failures with it (the first bar is a bit long and reaches you even at the top if you don't jump or don't wait a whole second at the beginning)
P.S. how was possible to beat it in 8 sec? it's insane ahahahahah

I think some of my levels might have ended up in the recommended/popular section. Like my swamp level I just made in an hour or something to be an average level and yet it's my second highest rated level beating other ones I designed over the course of several days.
I dunno, really. I do spend a lot of time testing my levels so they're completable by players of all skill-levels, so that probably helps.

It's telegraphed the first time by the one in front of you falling, and there's claws to catch you. Both times, that segment is almost right after a check point. Get good.

i made put sfx hints on where to make a jump from my own successes.
you can go get some speed and jump from the mid bumper without touching the invisible blocks I signalized with the arrows in the first path.
in the second path the trick is to jump high and descend towards the left after gaining just a tad bit of speed (i also signalized from where I jumped successfully).
not very far at all really. I'm just not fond of those precision courses.

The section with the trampoline and 2 creepers feels a little rough, had to spin to get through it without getting hit. The pyro that respawns on the checkpoint and starts carpeting the floor below is probably not a good idea. Not sure how you're supposed to approach the pyro on the crates in the beginning either, that felt super awkward to do no matter how I went about it.

To be honest I never thought about a specific way to do it. In my testings I either waited on the tree or just ran and jumped on it.

Hammer bros and friends would be a dope enemy if the frames on the hammers weren't so fucky they can kill you even after you've successfully defeated them. Also platform switching made it pretty much impossible to do the snowy mountain hammer bros level I wanted (you get a hard hat and more powerups than usual, I like trying to make bullshit fun.)

The first part feels great to play now, really good momentum, but somehow the second part feels even spammier than before.

Well I tried to make that first part flow for those trying to run through it so thanks. Did the block placement for the bros near the second checkpoint change the feel that much? Is it the fish causing the problems in the second half? Because sometimes they act weird.

Difficult segments are fine, but I don't know if I like wall after wall of death, especially when there is lots of waiting involved. The way pyro projectiles behave is really interesting and you don't need to stack them behind each other to prove a point I think.
Hopefully the beginning for "Saving private thwomp" is less of a pain in the ass now

Isn't it kinda bs that you have to do your entire level in one go without going back to checkpoints whereas the people playing your level get the checkpoints?
Pretty fun level I liked you had to use yoshi to solve the puzzles
other than that, I wish it was longer, and if you do decide to make more puzzles, either add checkpoints or remove the slide down so the player can reset faster
you could make levels where dying is mandatory otherwise.

Feels like I've been conditioned to put bros in pairs as the actual games love to do that. I can see where you are coming from though, the second part doesn't really have a spot that lets you breath.

The entire premise is that it's night, there's a storm outside and you see a fuckload of squid so you decide to jump on their mushy heads to get out of there.

There are minimiums before you qualify for medals.
The First Clear minimum is 300, which is ridiculous.

In SMB, pow blocks, P switches, arrow signs, wigglers, lava bubbles, burners, fire bars, boos, and certain sound effects provide light. There's probably a few more I'm forgetting.
In SMB3 / SMW / NSMBU, all enemies and projectiles are light sources in addition to everything listed above.

Finally completed my final Sunshine level (at least for a while anyway)

Find the secret box hiding away in Noki Bay's shell structures. No tedious red coins this time. Since it is based on my favourite area in sunshine, I decided to go all out with it's sub areas (as much as the game would allow me anyway)

It's a fun easy level. But I wouldn't make levels only contingent on how well things do... the algorithm is a fickle beast.
If you make more levels I would play them as you seem to be competent at it with good coin/enemy placement, and nice level of fairness. But that course didn't have a super strong personality beyond easy-breezy grassland and lacked the platforming or puzzle challenge to really draw me in hardcore.

Cheese is fun, I keep it as long as it's small, like skipping one obstacle or enemy
What i do, is to make it harder to be cheesed on, but make it still posible, so new players dont automatically cheese it, but seasoned try to take those shortcuts
RETURN has 8 plays on my end, the original had 184 that's why I tried making a sequel which is not something I had planned desu

seemed fine to me, didn't really feel like proper mario as it felt a bit cramped in places. There were many obstacles that seemed to be there just for the sake of it rather than to actually add to the challenge, it's borderline spam. Died once but mainly due to my own negligence.

They do but if you collect all an get a key, then die with a key, you respawn in the checkpoint with NO coins, i think they need to fix that.

Needs a checkpoint after the lava part.
Having to redo the easy parts of the level over and over because of a slight mistake is terribly annoying.
Especially the yoshi fetching part which gets old really quick.
Got killed at the second fire thrower platform because i misjudged the time it would take for the fire to go out. Then i completely forgot about the thwomp at the yoshi part and died to it for the first time, by trying to save time.
Shit isn't fun so i'm not gonna complete it. Sorry user.

In some ways I like playing the mildly hot garbage levels some anons make more than regular levels because you never know what to expect from someone that doesn't know what they're doing.
I made a level for the Touhou lovers out there.
Not him but it's solid advice for starting out. If you can't make a competent platformer you have no business doing more in-depth stuff yet. We need more beginner attempts at making fun platforming rather than all these 'precision jump between claws over over saw blades while cannons fire at you' type first levels I see.
Even just as an user who plays and reviews here a lot it's annoying how long it takes to complete so many poorly made high concept courses.

There were actually several sideways thwomps before this. In fact, every thwomp before this was a sideways thwomp. I agree that sideways thwomps should look different, though.
I only have 36 lives so I couldn't tell you (I tend to yolo the levels for WRs). I think i'm around 2500 in the ranking.
Did you see my level? I made a danmaku too yesterday. Tell me what you think. It is hard but I made sure to make it fair.
This, I spend at least 4 hours, usually 6 sometimes 8 or 9 playtesting and modifying. I'm good at it as none of my levels have any issues beside a single one in a level that my goal was for to just make a standard fun level and relax. It feels good but at the same time autistic. Ironically my first level was all about sequence breaking if you want to see it, I spent about 7 hours playtesting it and 13 actually creating ideas and placing things. Metroidvania are fun to make though because mistakes can turn into gifts.
I guess that's fair then. I think I would still forget that thwomps can go sideways. Thwomps have done 1 thing for 30 years.

For Silence (58X 7Q5 VPF), there are 8 total jumps. I mastered the last seven jumps in practice mode before clear check. Then in clear check, it took me about five hundred attempts to get the first jump. From there I just relied on previous practice and finished it.
Sunstroke actually took longer for me to upload. Getting the POW through pixel perfect jumps is a nightmare.

It really is a fun game. You can just hop in and play and enjoy yourself.

That isn't shell tech, that's dank platformer gameplay, jumping off of a dangerous platform you had to make yourself. This looks more like one of the harder celeste levels than kaizo shit.

>now you can finally kill the munchers to activate the switch

>if you destroy the yellow blocks on the green pipe as big mario right away to make more space in Bowser's cramped room, it will (unbeknownst to you) be flooded by koopa troopas in no time
>even if you kill Bowser, if you opened the pipe too soon there will be too many koopa troopas to take one of their shells and accurately chug it up into the switch without simply dying
And that's just what's after the checkpoint. Maybe make it a little more forgiving next time? Or at least less obnoxious.
