This is called a bad card.
Whoops
>no feathers
Yeah, I'm confused too.
wow a card from 5 years ago, this would work great if we were playing with middle school rules
And you are called a bad player.
Using this creature in conjunction with another spell that can get a card from your yard to the field could get you a stupid powerful creature (among other things) as soon as turn 4. Ever heard of Meren?
Fuck you're right, let me use this instead
I figured that since we're on Yea Forums, a format that wasn't Standard or something wouldn't factor into things, since Arena doesn't have anything else.
>3CMC
It's just gonna get murdered or some shit isn't it? Isn't that all magic is nowadays?
you could do something with it if you combo it with a golgari deck, getting something stupid powerful put into your graveyard at no cost, and then res it for less than it's cost.
This card got so much attention for no fucking reason its unreal how many newfags there seems to be in magic consistantly or maybe its just people stay bad even while playing for years
fucking rekt
>t3 regisaur, discard a fatty
>t4 blood for bones
>???
>profit
This card would be so good with green/black
forgot pic
> 3 Mana 7/6
Literally a "4 MANA 7/7". All you need is something for , which Black has, and it's fine.
>In response I cast Dovin's Veto
>man, this creature is just big and cheap, I don't understand why people think it's good
Did you even read the card?
If you think paying 3 mana for a 7/6 SLOW discard is comparable to a one mana 5/5 your a brainlet
>All you need is something to destroy enchantments, which is the one and sole thing that Black has not been able to do in the entire history of the game.
>turn one llanowar
>turn two
every fucking time
Bro.
I think all of the hatred and attention of rotting regisaur is unwarranted, but don't you ever make a comparison that stupid again.
but you CAN kill your own monsters fairly easily and bring them back, see
I've started maindecking disfigure and other cheap removal for these guys. Get rid of their reefs quickly, and they're just running a bunch of underwhelming elementals. It's pretty much the glue that holds the whole thing together.
>playing graveyard matters when this fucker is in Standard
Who the fuck is running Ashiok?
Thats newfag shit and is not competative in this standard environment, theres no good target such as elesh norn or the titans(and no the new elemental cycle are not near titan powerlevel enough to be worth using a 4 mana shit reanimate on). Its a shit card all around bad players constantly do this whenever wizards releases something with higher stat distribution vs mana cost and they NEVER work out.
>3CMC do nothing
Is this actually a good card in standard or are you fucking around?
>playing standard
Disgusting
I went against one Ashiok deck just a few minutes ago. It was some pillowfort faggotry that was all planeswalkers and removal, with the goal of milling with ashiok as the wincon.
That's a significant tempo loss that you otherwise could have been attacking with, assuming it is indeed turn 3 -> 4. The amount of work you're putting in just isn't worth it.
grafdigger's cage just got reprinted, you could have at least posted a good card
ashiok is fun, but only really played in meme mill decks that i've seen
i've ran into him twice in the 2 months i've been playing, most dimir decks i've fought haven't had the chance to drop him or didn't have him.
Man my temur elementals modern deck is gonna get some serious upgrades with m20. Might become my main deck.
of all the cards to use Blood For Bones for, Rotting Regisaur is so uncreative. It doesn't even have an enter the battlefield effect.
Agent of Treachery is way more memeworthy.
I last played at Alara and Rhox Monk that was for 3 mana, 3/4 lifelink was big. Now you can get 7/6 for 3 mana?
i'm already working on a green red elemental deck for m20, i've seen a few elemental decks, but all of them usually rush Omnath
I'm running 4 of these fuckers.
blightsteel colussus turn one
>nothing personel kid
I haven't heard shit about it being good in Standard, but I've seen it work well enough in various UB midrange decks in Modern given all the current top tiers a graveyard hate + no searchy combo hates on, and on a handful of Vintage lists of all things.
God that Omnath is so piss weak compared to the other two.
>On ETB ONLY, hit something equal to the number of elementals you control
>ONE +1/+1 counter on landfall
>Draw on landfall ONLY if you have 8+ lands
*blacks your path*
>middle school rules
mtg was more fun in school when everyone just cobbled decks together, shitwas kino
Not for long
Blightsteel never hits the grave and tinkers banned
Is teferi still in control of the meta? I stopped playing mtga when I got too bored of running into long teferi games.
Mine is centered around an early Liege of the Tangle using this guy, but some of these cards give it straight tribal potential
This is a good card with a "drawback" that isnt even really a drawback given his creature type and the type of gameplay he enables
the idea was to use it to discard something for BFB if you've failed to draw chart a course or whatever, not get back the regisaur
then you get your vilis or ghalta or whatever you feel like and get to replay your 3 mana 7/6 next turn
the last few sets had pretty strong removal and planeswalkers.dek is a pretty widespread archetype right now, so it seems like they're trying to push creature-based decks with regisaur, risen reef, the cavaliers, etc.
>broken design is part of the game
teferi is in a weird place with risen reef. 3feri used to be the best, but when bouncing a creature only allows them to draw more, too, then then it doesn't look as good.
But I think monored is getting hit the hardest.
>tfw i was the kid who collect all the goblins in my school
>have like 40 of pic related
>never sell them
>sell all in 2017
>have money to buy a a pc and ps4
This creates a loop that you can't break out of, immediately drawing the game.
oh boy have i got just the card for you
not in arena
planeswalkers were a fucking mistake
>arena
lmao who gives a shit
Should have bolted the Bird
can't you just make a million tokens then respond to a creation effect with a lightning strike on the raptor?
what happens in arena?
Game crashes
if it weren't for arena, this thread wouldn't exist.
were you black too? i knew a niglet who collected and liked goblins. looking back on it it seems like he was trying to tell us something
they added a good chunk of elementals in m20, granted that has a lot too do with the chandra elementals but whatever.
i run into black white vampire rush decks more than i do tef decks
I've yet to see this guy be played. Vampires and elementals are the new cancer. fuck them both.
Arena is great,i don't want to deal with shit dice counters never again
forgot pic
>no dark ritual
Shit meta.
please tell me I'm being baited, this card is probably older than half the people ITT
nop but he was right the future of red aggro is les than 2 mana creature/sorcery/instant
>were you
what, you think michael jackson is on Yea Forums or something?
I do faggot. a lot of people have decks that has to do with graveyards. this puts a wrench in it
>the future of red aggro
its always been that way though
thanks to arena i get to enjoy magic with aromatics of frankincense and burgundy vino instead of Wendys and body odor.
you know I hated when they made PWs into cards because of how it made them as characters less special, but I learned to accept it over time. I hated how they changed the rules text to just give them the Legendary supertype since it needlessly made the textbox clunkier and more importantly made it so you could have multiples of the same person on the field, which is a massive flavor failure, but again I've just learned to accept it.
I honestly think spamming them out so hard that there was an entire set littered with them at uncommon and rare crossed a line that it'll never recover from though.
GY matters isn't a thing in standard or at the very least relevant at all, enjoy your 3 mana do nothing, queer.
>not comboing xim with fall of the thran
checkmate
i haven't played magic since the mirrodin days
>ruins a format
>doesn't get banned because its from a new set and Wizards wants you to buy packs
yea but no one back in the day think that fucking card will cost almost 100$ bucks in the future
is like fucking pic related it was cheap ass fuck nad now is obligatory if you play legacy
Ok, what if they introduced a Planeswalker who had self duplication powers, and the flavor was that he used it so much that he literally is common.
>CMC6
That shit's getting countered or the game is going to be over by that point.
Literally no point in playing standard. There's two decks: mono red aggro and esper control, everything else is bows to them. And mono red aggro and esper control are literally the most boring ways to play magic.
>Ok, what if they introduced a Planeswalker who had self duplication powers
>I see you've learned nothing, Chandra Planeswalker (TM), You're Quirky Character Flaw
Fuck me this flavor text is getting bad
The best way to play magic is to steal other people's cards and sell them on ebay later.
my problem with them is that only blue gets to interact with them before they've already hit the table and done their thing
a 1 mana 5/5 is not even remotely comparable to a 3 mana 7/6 without any keyword abilities, dipshit.
The best way is to play with cards that look like they came out of Unhinged but are actually legal for the format.
You could. It's a three card combo though which is not fast nor resilient.
WAR had some absolutely fucking abysmal flavor text. Pic related is practically Ancient Grudge tier. So is the cringy Zombie-potamus one. It feels like they picked names of random tumblrinas out of a hat to write the flavor text in WAR
underrated holy shit
Daily reminder kill rudy burn his collection to the ground. YOU are the problem!
Since there's an MTG thread. I'm looking to get into MTG because a co-worker is pushing me to do so. He plays commander and wants me to do so as well. I've always played aggro decks in hearthstone, so, does anyone here have any budget aggro deck recommendations?
>People die, When they are killed. - Jace Beleren, Magic the Gathering (TM) Planeswalker (TM) of the Gatewatch (TM) (Copyright Hasbro)
I really hope this was intentional.
>aggro
>commander
lol
>budget
>MTG
Just run away man. This person isn't your friend.
aggro isn't great in commander because you have to deal so much damage. you can still do it, though.
check out edhrec and find a commander you like and build whatever you want - that's the whole point of the format, really. play whatever dumb cards you want because you can.
I'll admit, I know nothing about MTG, Like I said, I've just always played aggro decks in other card games, so I was hoping that commander had aggro decks as well since it would be a natural fit.
Please re print the reserved list and piss off loser fat neck beards PLEASE HAPPEN SO I CAN CUM TO THE THOUGHT OF THOUSANDS OF CUNTS LOSERS LOSING HUGE AMOUNTS OF MONEY. I WILL LITERATELY CUM ON THERE CARDS AND BEAT THEM TILL DEATH!
Ruined a format?
Are you saying this creature is more efficient than Tarmogoyf?
I really like the idea of a commander that EDH has but everything else about that format just feels like dumb gimmicky shit
t. RDW shitter
The general rule of thumb is that the further you get from limited formats, the weaker the combat phase becomes. Commander is probably only slightly closer to Limited than Vintage and is one of the formats where combat is virtually nonexistent outside of extremely casual groups. You can expect a board wipe or three every few turns in a group of semi-competent players and a board wipe every turn in a group of competent or better players. If you want to do something aggro-like your best bet would be a deck that easily recovers from board wipes like Edgar Markov or a deck that shits out a ton of direct damage while going wide with small aggro creatures like Purphoros.
yes
why play goyf when you can play gaak and mill out your opponent with bridge from below and altar of dementia on turn 3
and if that doesn't work out for you, the 14 power you put on the board turn 2 probably will :^)
Thanks.
Bridge was banned, user.
>Esper control
>RDW
>Mono-U shitters
>Sultai Midrange
>UG/x Ramp
None of these use graveyard.
yes, it was good enough to warrant a ban just weeks after hogaak was printed
Another thing to keep in mind about Commander is that, being a slower and more variable multiplayer format, anything that hits multiple players is ideal, you need to have answers to every type of card because silver bullets run rampant, the board will get wiped pretty often, and most imporantly you should have about 10 each of ramp spells and card draw in every deck minimum. That last one can be difficult with some commanders (mostly decks that are red/white/boros with no other colors and aren't artifact decks).
I think a deck can only have 3 of any one card that isn't a land card
You're retarded. Bridge was the degenerate card and Bridge was what got banned. Hogaak is a more expensive but more resilient Gurmag Angler. Without Bridge giving you a billion zombies, getting the two creatures to cast him multiple times is actually quite difficult. Having to win through combat damage also now makes him much more vulnerable to traditional anti-creature measures.
Check TappedOut for some deck lists and build from there. I can't give you any recommendations off the top of my head, mainly because aggro in Commander is harder to play than something like Standard or Modern.
You are wrong.
>to Dovin Baan
why is that part necessary
I play Arena cause I'm not a poor standard only nigger.
Krenko Mob Boss is probably your best bet for a cheap-ish aggro Commander deck. Look up sample lists and/or use EDHRec.com and put together a list.
How well do you know the rules by the way?
Aggro in the traditional sense isn't all that great in Commander because it's a multiplayer format where everyone has 40 life, so you essentially have to burn through six times the life total as in a typical game.
That said, Purphoros and Krenko are pretty explosive decks that can win fast. Purphoros in particular is probably the only "burn" deck that's worth anything in commander. They're also both pretty cheap to build (Purphoros himself is getting more expensive though) Go to EDHrec.com and search up those cards I mentioned, it'll give you card recommendations for a prospective deck.
esper and sultai certainly do, though grave hate usually doesn't matter - they'll be happy to take your creatures instead
he can always build for commander damage but its still a dumb concept
Man, I get they have this retarded mindset that bolt is too much but this seems way too expensive for what it does
I am fuckin' clueless, my guy. My coworker just keeps nagging me to play so he has another person to play with.
So which is it user, are you a yu-gi-oh or hearthstone import?
It's pretty much token/tiny creature hate
Because they're literally making a Magic Netflix series about Chandra, and the ever rumoured movie is supposed to be about the Gatewatch
More like a badly designed card.
Shits fucking insanely good.
>Gatewatch
does anybody genuinely like this justice league bullshit
Okay. I've not played Hearthstone but from what I've heard it has similar concepts of resource management as MTG so you're a little bit ahead of total newbies.
Krenko is pretty straightforward. You make a bunch of dudes and then you attack with them then you make more of them. It's a very zerg rush type strategy which is as close to aggro as commander gets.
Commander is a multiplayer format though. You and your co-worker would probably get more enjoyment out of traditional 60 card casual decks, which conveniently are also much better for aggro decks.
Consider installing MTG arena. It's a reasonable online client when it comes to teaching you the rules and you get a bunch of free decks to start with that aren't terrible. It's not close to as good as physical games, but it can show you the ropes if need be.
Guys , big monsters are EPIC FTW
t. RnD
Nope, but american companies can't into actual decent storytelling and superhero stories are easy to make.
trannies and numales eat that shit up
Are feather decks memes or actually decent?
>monsters need to have broken stats/effects just to compete with braindead control
This is a 3 mana 7/6 with an UPSIDE, wtf are you smoking user
>series about Chandra
I knew that there was a netflix series, but did they seriously confirm Chandra is going to be the MC? Fucking why, she's so god damned boring and is unimportant more often than not.
The card is just half of Fire//Ice. It's costed pretty appropriately in that it would be too good at 1 mana. Could maybe use a tiny upside like scry 1 to make it excellent but it's totally fine as is.
it's for limited
was pretty deece in war limited too, kill your x/1 and finish off a planeswalker.
would be interesting to see them pull the trigger on actual bolt in standard though
Yes.
>dies to removal
how about no
>if Kamigawa were made today Umezawa would probably be a supporting character doing what Jace told him to, if he showed up at all
Every day Yea Forums reminds me that Wizards are trying to pander to literal idiots with Magic Arena and it makes me mad.
Control your oponent and btfo him whit this nigga
Or if you like aggro play phurphoros non tribal
From my experience (having faced them) it's a little of column A, a little of column B. If they manage to get the Feather / +1/+0 cantrip / protection instant online, it's very hard to come back from. However if you can take a piece of that out before it happens, the deck tends to fold.
>I get they have this retarded mindset that bolt is too much
Lightning bolt will immediately warp any format it's in and you are delusional if you think otherwise.
she's part of the big 5 now amigo, chandra, jace , vivian, liliana and rip Gideon so we need a new white nigger, that's why we are going to theros next.
Jesus fuck, the new flavor text is sickening.
I don't think a set has ever disappointed me as much as the second zendikar one I didn't even bother remembering the name of. First half was basically none of the reason I loved the original set and the second half was a giant slap in the face. And then the next year they shat on innistrad too. honestly that one-two punch is why I stopped playing magic regularly
I know she's been a part of the five, but compared to literally anything else they could do, she's just so lacking.
I take that back, at least it's not about Vivien Reed or Kaya.
You're a fucking terrible player.
>The story to Magic Arena's tutorial is literally you get knocked the fuck out by Bolas VillanMan (TM) and left on the side of the street (Does Nicol Bolas, the endboss dragon of Magic, have a habit of knocking people the fuck out and leaving them on the side of the road? Why not just kill you?) and get the salty runback within 5 matches thanks to the help of a quirky fairy that makes quips
>You go meet a merman who's supposed to be a mentor type, but your fairy literally goes "WHOOPS WAIT THIS ISN'T THE RIGHT GUY HAHA XD" and he goes from being a sage, mentorly type to saying lolrandom gibberish
>Flavortext is now about Planeswalkers jerking eachother off
>Plot of War was basically a bad avengers wannabe, complete with dramatic character deaths
It's all so fucking bad
Fuck chandra GARRUCK WHEN????
>Vivien Reed
or nissa.....
>Reveals Temporal Tresspass, Scroll Rack Temporal Tresspass on top
>Time walks
MTG has 5 different colored resources (i.e., lands) that you need to play spells. If you're just starting off, build your deck around one color, it's a hell of a lot easier.
If you're building an aggro deck, it's almost certainly going to be a Mono-Red deck.
>Aw, man, that garbage character nobody cared about from the last set died, how sad!
cool card tho
>choking a cute twink
based art
>Borbrygmos is apparently in the book but just didn't get a card for no reason
>relatively unique UR walker abilities
>unceremoniously killed off for no reason
BUT IN THE END IT DOESN'T EVEN MATER
pretty sure he means the only good walker that of course had to bite the dust because they probably wanted to replace him with a black chick or something
Ghehehe
I love draft.
Have fun top-decking for 8 turns till you finally get something to sacrifice it with.
Meanwhile Jace is alive and will always remind us on how forcing shit never works, neither in card design or in characters.
Cool, and while you're fussing about with that, I've already won on turn 4 :^)
Post your favorite card of all time
Is this card as stupid as it seems?
i didnt even read it, wow that's fucking garbage
please tell me the flavor text hasn't gotten worse too, some of them were hilarious
think there was this green dinosaur card, crazy high stats with trample and the flavor text read something like
>(certain faction) were master strategists, and their best strategy they had was to simply run these creatures at the enemy
remember laughing so much at that. rampaging something maybe? trying to remember the name
>lemme just play this three card combo that involves playing two of the most easily removed card types beforehand
For edh is pretty good
probably not of all time, but it's up in the top 10 almost for sure.
Used to be one of the most busted boardwipes, now its just ok.
Ignore the naysayers, aggro is totally viable in casual EDH. Check out the EDH general on /tg/, they'll set you straight. The OP has lots of helpful links at the very least.
Good in aggressive and controlling strategies. It's just efficient, iconic, and fun It's not super flashy but it's by far my favorite.
Dual color is probably easier in EDH actually. Monocolor decks are going to have major flaws that you'd need a lot of game knowledge or obscure as fuck workaround cards to cover for, otherwise your deck will end up shit. Even 3 color is probably easier for your first EDH deck.
me
So in standard now there is:
Always some form of mono red deck
Mono blue tempo
Mono white/white weenies
Mono green stompy
All of those decks aren't fringe decks either tier 1-2 level...yet there hardly EVER meta viable mono black or mono black zombies deck.
Why is WotC racist against black?
So, does the first-strike round of it getting through unblocked count as a seperate instance of damage dealt, or would it only gain a single counter for being unblocked?
Separate instances of damage. So if unblocked, it would get two +1/+1 counters.
Double Strike means the creaure deals first strike damage and regular combat damage. Abilities that trigger whenever a creature damages a player trigger whenever a creature damages a player. Do the math.
>Mono green stompy
Mono-G hasn't been shit since KLD rotated, user.
That's what I thought, but I've been wrong before due to changes to how rules worked between ~homelands and m13.
>until altered or removed by another card
Is that means you can change the form whitout paying any mana cost????
I'm making an Budget Magic cube. What are some gnarly Uncommon rarity cards from the most recent sets? They can be commons too, but no rare or higher cards.
its on casting of the creature, so no. you get one instance to choose what you want
but if the creature gets bounced back to your hand and you play it again, im sure you can choose a different form
>no trample
>limited to decks that combo with it making it easy to counter and figure out the entire deck strategy
Who cares. Shit card
Old wording can be kind of wonky.
I loved Magic as a kid, even read all the books. The Dementia Masters in the books were all so fucking cool, able to summon anything they killed as slaves. I tried everything to make him work in a deck but he's just too fragile and when he dies everything is ruined.
Still so badass though.
mediocre niche sideboard tech at best
i unironically have three copies in my sideboard and not a single time have i ever used one nor played a match and wished i sideboarded it in or had it at a particular moment. to me it seemed really good to be on paper for hate but i gauged it very poorly
Thanks for saccing your own creature for me.
>blocks your pa-
Are really ditching Jace for Chandra as the "face" of the game? I'm no Jace fan, but I'm honestly surprised.
I hope you weren't enjoying your slow ass creatures, Yea Forums.
Is this actually good in standard or are people just memeing. Is it played in Jund decks?
Jace is a WHITE MALE so of course they want to pivot
Cool kids report in!
I'm still fucking baffled how a pale as fuck European looking woman has two Pajeet parents.
Probably this. Everything gets big and stupid in multiples.
lol
No shenanigans allowed on my watch.
Meant as a reply to
>game puts an AI on your team
Jace was an easy target for a while. Now fans won't be able to shit talk the face character of MTG without a defense force jumping at them immediately.
One of the first cards I owned. I have like 2 or 3 of that foil.
As a kid, I fucking loved dragons (still do, just less autistic about it). About a month after Invasion I went to a card store with my parents, and all 5 dragon legendaries were on display. Instead of buying 10 boosters with my allowance, I bought all 5 of the legendaries. Didn't regret it one bit. They're so fucking cool.
Brainlet here. I'm not seeing how this combo works or gives you a Turn 4 win. Can someone spoonfeed?
RAKDOS CHADS WW@
Let me tell you about a forma called commander, user. Where as long as your playgroup isn't full of people who think casual formats need to be played at competitive rules level enforcement, you can play all the janky shit you want.
Here, I'll even help you out here. Put in a bunch of creatures that have an effect that occurs as it enters the battlefield, sacrifice outlets, and things that care about things dying. There you go, you are already halfway to a solid enough aristocrats deck. Savor the value.
Best boy in magic
Probably worth it over the boosters anyways
I remember I couldn't afford the dragon's themselves but I had the dragon's liar's which were all great cards too.
>slow ass creatures
>posts 4cmc creature without haste that does nothing when it enters the battlefield
Yeah, IIRC my parents had to spot me a little. The lairs were good shit too.
It's in Jund Dinosaurs.
If Gatewatch is the Justice League. Jace is definitely Hal Jordan.
Equip dude with the staff and put the enchantment on him. Now he taps to deal 1 damage, then untaps because he has lifelink. Then just keep tapping for damage.
>turn 3 7/6
>bad
What are you smoking?
Urza's art is better.
Every single question I have had about the lore from MtG since ~BFZ ("How did two neowalkers permanently kill eldrazi titans that 3 old walkers couldn't do shit against?" "Why are angels on Ravnica black? All Boros angels on Ravnica are clones/copies of Razia/Feather" "Why the fuck did Rakdos let Gideon ride him in War of the Spark?" "How come Liliana, who has been shown reveling in torture and senseless murder suddenly grew a conscience and sacrificed herself for the greater good when her literal entire character is just 'self interest: the necromancer'?") can be answered with "Bad writing".
Internal consistency is fucked because the random greenhorns and interns that WotC is hiring to write lore articles no longer give a shit about the game. I'm reasonably confident I know more lore than 90% of the current creative team.
>The two drones that punch his unconscious body
gets me every time
It was like my first pull and it seems like it would work awesome in theory even if nearly inpossible in practice and it just looks and sounds awesome.
The enchantment gives the creature Lifelink, which ultimately means it will untap every time it deals damage.
The equipment will let you tap it to have it deal 1 damage to your opponent, which will then untap it, and so on.
>VIDEO games
lol
>He's never played MTG vidya
It's like you don't even know how fun the animation and voice acting are
MTGA
you tap that ass x infinity
It's been a long time since I've played MTG, can someone explain to me how "N turn combos" work when cards like Force of Will exist?
This?
This post is everything wrong with Yea Forums.
Too many retards talking about shit they don't understand
Gotta love using broken combos in TCG vidya. Like when I actually yatalocked the cpu in some GBA yugioh game.
don't always have it or don't always have a blue pitch card
Force of Will isn't in modern or standard, you can run cards that make your spells unable to be countered or counter spells to ensure they resolve, you can also play with hand disruption. There's lots of ways
Any combo deck that can play free counters like FOW or Pact of Negation generally will, so even if you have an answer to what they're doing, it might not matter.
All these plebs taking obvious bait. Who the fuck would remember Dovins Veto but cant read the card?
only commander i ever had fun playing
fuck i hate edh otherwise
No. Fast combo decks care about consistency more than protection. Hand disruption (Thoughtseize, Cabal Therapy, etc...) is more common than free counterspells in most all-in combo decks.
Incorporate Green and White (optionally red) since they can also shitout tokens.
And Green has a card called Triumph of the hordes.
It's also 4 mana and provides value before it can get removed.
You're underestimating it m8
>nearly impossible in practice
That's where you're wrong kiddo
>shuts down graveyard shenanigans
>scales with the power of your opponents' deck
>sometimes locks players out of the game if someone's dumb enough to run Mystic Snake into it
I'm getting close to 20+ EDH decks, and every single one has a mimic vat in it
lol
He said if they can. Sneak and Show plays with 7-8 MD counter spells, and Twin ran a few when it was still legal
>and provides value
Realistically, how much damage can you get in through an ETB trigger? The great value you're talking about is a +1/+1 counter and maybe damage on par with or a little stronger than a bolt for 4 mana.
In EDH it would probably usually end up being a lava/lightning axe
If you're running this Omnath, chances are you have plenty of ways to quickly get to 8 lands. The card draw on landfall is pretty retarded with that in mind.
favorite flavortext lads
I know it's cheating to post this in flavor text contests but fuck you
Oh snap, I see, that is nuts. Thanks
NO REST
NO MERCY
NO
MATTER
WHAT
>Wizards is too afraid to print legendary artifact creatures without slapping the WUBRG symbols in the text box because MUH COMMANDER
Not really, it's just that Golos is designed for 5 color goodstuff (easy to cast before you have all your mana fixed and fixes your mana when you do, on top of having a good prismatic wincon attached) and Ramos needed to be able to be the general of a 5-color dragon deck he was printed in. There are plenty of colorless artifact commanders like OG Karn and thoper boi
Did I stutter? Twin is a tempo deck, not a combo deck. Show and Tell is the only combo deck that plays counterspells. Storm and Dredge both play blue but don't play counters. They do both play Cabal Therapy (and Storm plays Thoughtseize as well) though.
FoW is for decks that don't need multiple cards in hand. Sneak and Show is fine with that since its 'combo' requires you have two cards in hand. It also plays a much slower gameplan than Reanimator, Storm, or Dredge.
>7 fucking mana
>for an enchantment that helps your opponent more than you
Me and friends would make meme control and counterspell decks, I ordered two of these online, the look on those motherfuckers faces when a 7 card stack of back and forth is ended with this. Also yes these were not good decks and we were shit players but we had lots of fun.
I enjoy most of the cards that end with "last words", but this one has a special place for me. It's not particularly amazing, but I always got a chuckle out of it and now I play it in my spellslinger EDH deck.
Sounds like your friends are stupid, they can just target spells further down on the stack with their counterspell.
Ya you didnt understand. We would sit around stacking mana, and hoarding counterspells, then someone would try to play something like a quicksilver dragon, and it would just be 5 counterspells on the stack. And you cant go up the stack, that was the whole point of the stack.
>you cant go up the stack, that was the whole point of the stack.
explain to me how this card works
Kitchen table rules understanding strikes again
Your counter spells can target any spell the stack....
>you can't go up the stack
You can't place your spell anywhere on the stack you want, but when something says to target a spell or an ability, it means you can target any that's on the stack currently.
stack merely determines what order spells resolve in
tfw drafted FOUR of this guy and built mono black in fnm draft
Imagine being this retarded.
I bet your dick was hard.
jesus, that's good. I remember underestimating him when he was first released, but now play him in modern
i had no idea what fucking timeline i was living in when i kept getting passed garys
No, all spells would be in my example would be countering the quicksilver dragon, or countering the counter spells countering the quicksilver dragon. But more entertainingly when you are 13 is to counter the counterspells. And until someone has a card like last word it functioned identically atleast in 6th edition rules which was the last major rules edition i played. Until I bought last words. Then ya everyone would just keep countering the original spell. This is why I quit magic you spergs have no interest in fun.
didnt exist when I played. havent played or bought magic cards in over a decade.
How about Fork then, you fucking moron.
mono black is way underpowered
le you hurt yourself or discard things to do what other colors can do efficiently
Chump block until your enemy fucks themselves. Of course I play orzhov token aristocrats so I win even when I'm losing
>have poor understanding of the game
>you spergs have no interest in fun.
>says this while playing counterspell wars
hmm
>In response I cast Dovin's Veto
Stick to a craw wurm meta, seems more your speed
Hey it's Idris Elba
Kill yourself please
I bet you also played mono blue aggro when it was popular
I genuinely dont get your question? it just seems like you are shitting on literal children having fun. What place does the card fork have in mono blue decks?
Hmmmmm game about wizards dueling, try to imitate wizards dueling, durrr why would children try to do that. Ya you guys are spergs. I literally said we werent good.
Scaled Wurm meta was more my speed. Also 2002 not many ways for a 13 year old to keep up on the meta.
Nope, always been a black white player. What you got a problem with pings user? Its not even a top tier deck.
>chandra + nissa yuri netflix anime
can't wait
so when I said your friends are stupid and you disagreed with me, you were just kidding?
It's pretty damn amusing that this post, which is factually correct as this shitty dino won't see play in any format is hounded by a bunch of literal teenagers who have maybe been playing Magic for a year at absolute most.
All new.
>Icon of Ancestry
MAKE TRIBALS GREAT AGAIN
>Legendary human
>gets killed by 3-4 squirrels
If by 3-4 you mean exactly 8, yes.
>won't see play in any format
>just 5-0'd a standard league
to be fair, some of those fellows were actually retarded
When did I ever say my friends were stupid? That is your word.
those squirrels have first strike?
>don't know the rules
>I literally said we werent good.
nothing wrong with being stupid
5-0s alone don't mean much, even random devotion decks are still 5-0ing on MODO.
>when you get to play a homemade non meta jank deck against someone elses homemade non meta jank deck
>both of you are neck and neck the whole time
>have a comfy game with genuine respect for the other player
Good times
>when your sideboard plan is their mainboard plan and you beat them at it
Get FUCKED ponza.
Well within the shell of other dinosaur support cards, it's quite worth the downside (cost reduction, haste).
I mena ofc, i only play my squirrels in decks that give them first strike, how else can i kill big stuff with them and then swing next turn for lethal.
Since when sacrificing a land to produce mana is better than tapping it?
Are you referring to the time when the rules were that the entire stack resolves at once when nobody chooses to play any more spells?
When did they not know the rules, they didnt just sit around letting me end every stack with last word. Also big jeeze, you are obsessed with calling children stupid, because they didnt devote all their time to becoming skilled magic players, while playing before the school bus got there.
>Tap mana
>Sacrifice it to add mana
>Two mana from one land
I get it but still looks pretty shitty to me.
>people actually have this trash in their deck
lmao. going digital really hurt the quality of the players holy shit
When you can kill them on that turn. You ever get hit with a Drain Life for 47 user? Because that card plus Propserous Bloom was responsible for it.
>uncreative
goal post sent to the mooooooooooooon
your average blue nigger
I didn't day you stuttered, I just think you misunderstood what the guy was saying.
Twin was absolutely a combo deck, and dredge doesn't even play blue producing lands. Having blue creatures doesn't make it a blue deck
Off the top of my head, Ad Naus and Legacy Infect also use counter spells. Also, Sneak and Show can win on turn 1 and doesn't look to drag the game out.
Has it changed since 6th edition?
Sorry the card in is Cadaverous Bloom. Prosperous Bloom was just the name of the deck.
My brother gave me my first magic deck and this was the star card of the deck. Power creep kinda ruined the game for me, but I'm still fond of Magic for the good old days.
lol
Regisaur Alpha wasn't good at any point in the last two or so years and is still not good. Your two-drop cost reducer has zero synergy with your previously three-drop payoff. Commune and Stomp are just bad, and your midrange tribal deck cannot afford to discard synergistic cards. This leads to your three mana 7/6 being late game play which is when it will have the least impact. Also Ghalta and Carnage Tyrant are unplayable in this format.
GG
Literally goatsy
>tfw zoomers will never the horror
Yes it has. So based on what i'm reading in your posts you seem to be referencing an older time when Interrupts used to be a card type and the rules were if an Interrupt was on the stack then only other Interrupts could be played and once everyone was done playing/activating their fast effects then the entire stack resolves in order with the LIFO rule(last in, first out). Rule also was that if an Interrupt was on the stack then you can only play Interrupts in response to other Instants/Interrupts, you couldn't even legally play an Instant at this point because an Interrupt was just "faster" than an Instant and so was considered "too slow" at the time for playing fast effects on the stack. I think this was the MTG you were used to at the current time.
>target player
hilarious when redirected
wtf goblin guide is worth $20 now? I'm sure I had like 5 copies of that but I think I told my mom she could sell all my cards I left at home years go.
A critical mass of tribal synergy is all that is required for such a deck to put up some results, it's certainly not tier 1, but it's a decent tier 2 deck.
I started playing in Urza's block. I know right after I quit there was a large change in rules, that killed cards like Mogg Fanatic. But for most of the time I played with instants. People in this thread are just very upset, that 13 year olds were not playing optimal tournament magic. And werent keeping up on the meta in 2002.
Used to $40. Aside from lands, it's one of the few rare cards that goes in burn, and retards usually play low iq decks like that
hi
Goblin Guide has been expensive as fuck from the moment it was printed. $20 is actually the cheapest it's ever been. It's a staple in Burn
Last Word was printed more than a decade after Interrupt was removed from the game
No the guy was just a retarded kid who had a rules misunderstanding as stupid as stuff like "tapped creatures are no longer blocking" or "if I kill your blocker the damage still goes through" but instead of laughing at how fucking retarded he was back then, he's defending it and claiming the game is more fun when you play it with shitty rules
Critical mass is exactly what this card denies, playing this turn three is playing off a mulligan to five by turn five in a deck where every card matters. Not only that, but dinos lack the actual payoffs for a developed board state like merfolk in modern or vampires in that they don't have cheap lords. Haste or pumping your 2/3 without evasion stops being relevant very quickly.
Sorry for asking (maybe) stupid question.|Loved Phyrexia lore and design, played mostly in that period. Is there any plans that Phyrexia (and mb poison) is returning into the game?
Sounds like you quit roughly around the original Mirrodin era? That was when they changed damage to not be on the stack which yes did affect cards like Mogg Fanatic but primarily it was done to stop Arcbound Ravager nonsense. I've been playing MTG on and off since Revised edition and your posts do seem to somewhat describe interactions that was prevalent in older MTG rules of the time though a bit jumbled around somewhat in proper rules.
They'll do it when they want to cash in on nostalgia bucks from you retards.
mmmmmm yes I remember arcbound ravenger and that one black card that dealt damage for every artifact that entered the battlefield mirrodin was the last set I really played, went to the pre release and release, bought some boxes, after that I sorta lost faith magic was balanced and moved away from my mtg friend group.
I know a lot of people who'd like to see the Mirrodin story be wrapped up nicely, but you know with the current writers at WotC that whatever they come up with will be shit
I do think they'll go back some day, but probably not for a while since we just did Ravnica 3
I'm not saying it's an optimal choice, but it's decent enough to throw in.
Check and mate.
is it just because its a one mana 2/2 haster or is there an advantage to let the opponent draw cards?
No again you just trying to not look like an asshole. Everyone knew you could just cast all 4 counters in your hand against the quicksilver dragon, but until I started running last words, again being kids it was more fun to go back and forth countering each others counterspells. Because christ anyone being allowed to have fun in magic who isnt a Spike.
As someone who has been holding onto four copies of Volcano Hellion for an extremely long amount of time there are much simpler ways to do this now.
can you find another haster for 1 mana with more or equal power?
Back to where you can be as bad at magic as you want to be.
swiftspear
It's because it's a 1 mana 2/2 with a downside that at worst puts a land in your opponent's hand and at best gives you information about their draws
It wasn't more fun though, unless you were a retarded child who misunderstood the rules
Doesn't that card cost like 3 bucks? Why are you doing this?
As unfitting and retarded as it was I did like that remix for the trailer. However it still doesn't beat the best remix of that song

>MtG threads hit bump limit all the time
>Yu-Gi-Oh threads get pruned fast
That's kinda racist isn't it?
wait, so now you are telling people how to have fun? This is now your argument.
>best UR walker when the others have all been garbage
>one of the best walkers in general
>unique abilities that were extremely thematic and on-color
>only character in that garbage tier novel that had an actual story, personality, and arc of any kind
>ends with him just dying lol
>doesn't even get a second card in the set when literal whos who did literal nothing in the story got cards
War of the Spark was such a god fucking awful set
We had an mtg thread get deleted earlier today at like 80 posts.
MTG threads are ostensibly about Arena. They still get pruned all the time though
post youre waifu
>>best UR walker when the others have all been garbage
I think Saheeli, Sublime Artificer is good, and the other Saheeli took over standard around the time WotC was banning cards left and right.
the change that removed combat damage from the stack was with m10, years after mirrodin had left standard. there was an article about how they did it because 12 year olds were too stupid to understand how it worked so they just changed the rules to be how they thought it was. they also added new ultra rates to be more like yugioh. I'm glad I stopped playing then.
so one card
that's why burn plays both swiftspear and guide
I meant before WAR. Saheeli is okay, and the new Ral is good. Before WAR though we just had Saheeli Rai, commander Saheeli, and old Ral. All of which were boring outside of 1 or 2 abilities and useless outside of cat combo
It's a 2/2 with haste that tells you what's in your opponents' hand. Drawing cards for your opponent is irrelevant in decks running GG because they're trying to kill their opponent before they can play any of them anyway
Based
:( I miss 2008 and my elemental deck.
I did waifu abuse a lot with this combo
I don't get what the fuss is all about with this 7/6 dinoboi. We just had the god cycle from Amonkhet, and back then even a 5/5 3cmc indestructible deathtouch beater that can pump your creature was mostly mediocre. You could maybe argue that meeting the conditions to attack/block for Rhonas was a nuisance, but a forced discard on upkeep is so much worse unless you run a shell that's explicitly built to benefit from self discarding, and even then, eh. You try getting this Cast Down'd during upkeep in response to the discard trigger, see if this card's still broken.
It's a good dumb beater, but nothing remarkable in an environment where removals are so strong.
Oh, there's this one now.
Any fun decks I could do with these cards?
the fun stops here
Every format that Rotting Regisaur is legal in also has pacifism legal in.
> discard effect goes on the stack
> tyrants scorn
Yeah its great
Good taste, naruto run of graveyard storm is a 10/10 card
I was going to post this. That period in magic where mono blue "draw-go" ran this in standard was the best time to ever play magic.
You can make use of it with might of the masses, field of the dead and scapeshift.
>planeswalkers were a fucking mistake
THIS. You the player are the "planeswalker". Making the planeswalker cards was just an excuse for the SJW artists to shit up the universe even more and add more women and niggers.
>tfw you still have the yawgmoth's will you bought from a kid for $5 more than a decade ago
Ignoring Last Word time of printing aside the old MTG counterspells used to be Interrupts so anyone at the time that was used to playing that way would still presume the interaction still worked the same despite rules changes. For instance in current rules with simultaneous triggers you get the choose the order, older rulings were that the triggers were randomly assigned and in some cases when certain things were contradicting you just literally flipped a coin to decide before everything was DCI codified comp rules.
You're getting a lot of shitty suggestions but if you want aggro in commander, this dude is your best bet. 1v1 he can actually put out enough power to win in combat in commander.
bro it doesnt have trample. it died to like 30 different 3 mana removal spells, and you can just chump block it until they mill their whole hand than remove it. its a garbage card
So many favorites from Urza's Saga
He's just an extremely efficient beater. Even the B/x midrange decks look to play him in Modern and you can even stack Dark Confidant to trigger after the Regisaur with an empty hand so you don't discard the card you draw with Dark Confidant.
nah, planeswalker are the mechanical coolest cards in magic.
pretty sure he is banned in 1v1
Not him but is Edgar Markov the best aggro commander? I thought Zurgo Bellstriker was like the Aggro 1v1 commander.
>tfw got a foil just a month or so before he was banned in edh
it was well deserved but still
If you could post any card why not just post this one. Standard before it got banned was the funniest shit i've ever seen.
he's banned in the specific format dual commander, which presumably the friend isnt playing since they are at 40 life
yeah, he is, he gets crazy
My wife
It's a well known fact that there is a constant power nerf. That's one of the reason why there is a standard rotation. Look at cards from 10 years ago and see how destructive they are.
so then don't play standard, there's a reason modern is the most popular format
Though right now War of the Spark is the set that's had the biggest impact in the Vintage/Legacy/Modern metagame. Narset/Karn/Teferi are like all influencing those formats.
>upside
There are like 20 removal cards of equal mana cost that deal with it.
And there are many cards that leave it on the field, unable to attack, just stuck there milling your hand.
And you can just block it with tokens while your opponent loses their hand, because it has no Trample.
It is a bad card. In maybe 1 out of 20 games it will win you the game on turn 3, but in at least 2 out of 20 games it will just lose you the game when played and dealt with.
>turn one llanowar
25 years of butthurt, never changed.
My roommate is hardcore into standard. Drops a fuck ton of money every couple of months so he can remain competitive. I stopped standard long ago. I like EDH. But most of all I just like collecting.
And yeah I think Wizards is doing that on purpose.
>Post your favorite card of all time
Probably this one, but I don't get to play it.
>serra finally gets a card
>they make her ugly
why?
Guy seems pretty good in higher power format prison decks. Dark ritual this guy out turn one, turn two start running out spheres of resistance and null rods and shit, and the aggressively coated "both players discard" effects I can't be bothered to look up the good cards for.
Obviously not on the same level as the good legacy/vintage decks, but stompy is a playable archetype.
I haven't played ever since the game uninstalled itself while patching (for the second time), so I am 2 expansions behind I think? And I have no currency to craft.
Can I drop in with my old vampires-cats token deck that I used to fight off all the red aggro with lifesteal and constant blockers?
>had a comfy midafternoon nap once
>dreamt Tamiyo was my wife
It was really nice.
in universe, how long is a turn of Magic? If your hand represents your short term memory, it seems like a single turn would be pretty quick, right?
that's a long neck
for you
I think Brainstorm is thematically meant to represent how an actual brainstorm works - you get a sudden inspiration (represented by the new cards in your hand), and you choose the best way to act on that inspiration by putting on hold all your thoughts that aren't going to help you achieve your goal (represented by putting back cards you no longer need on top of your deck), but only until your goal is achieved and you have time to go back to how you were before the epiphany (represented by those cards going to the top of your deck for you to draw later).
Brainstorm is so well designed.
They should print a version where you put three cards back. Its card disadvantage but huge card quality. For U it would definitely be modern playable.
My wife
Fuck man I remember how Elesh wrecked back in the day. Probably my favorite card of all time.
>alter

I cant wait to never see an enchantment again that isnt an aura.
Its the MTG equivalent of Hearthstone's move from minion trading on board to OTK combos fro hand.
>oh players like this one deck
>lets make every card in the game like that
If he were legendary would he be a good commander?
What if you could change his color but not his CMC?
>vampires-cats token deck
pls respond
I actually like jace now, if only because he's one of the only gatewatch members to actually have a character arc.
>B-B-BUT IT DIES TO REMOVAL!
Yea Forums in charge of somehow being worse than /tg/ at Magic
jace is kind of done. he's had his whole character arc sort of complete at ixalan. now all that's left to see is if he'll stick his dick in his snake waifu before one or both of them succumb to the bad writing.
The only real pure waifu
>I honestly think spamming them out so hard that there was an entire set littered with them at uncommon and rare crossed a line that it'll never recover from though.
no that's a good thing, otherwise they're just these gay mythic toys for neckbeard whales, now they're more like a real card type. I enjoy their new designs too, the old ones were just
>protection/value
>big value
>you win the game
the only issue is that they're all boring humanoids
It doesn't just die to removal.
You can tie it up on the board, without removing it, and the negative effect keeps going on with zero benefit.
You can keep blocking it with tokens, and gain the upper hand, because losing 1 card per turn is objectively worse than losing a 1/1 per turn.
>y-you can just chump block it!
Holy shit I can't breathe
I have a Mono red Commander deck using Zada, and while it's not the quickest kill, I can take folks from 40 to dead without ever hitting combat phase.
I was told Arena has Innistrad in files? I want to play my boi here.
"Y-y-you can j-just block it!" is already a legitimate criticism of a big dude you want to put on the board fast, but this one, when blocked, costs you a card for zero damage. Yes, its bad.
NO TRAMPLE
I hate gayswalkers so much
Agreed. This card in a mono-white aggro deck pretty much shut down the entire meta at the time it was in standard. Good times.
>"Y-y-you can j-just block it!" is already a legitimate criticism

Sure, but she isn't from MTG.

why are the MTG threads on Yea Forums better than the ones on /tg/?
WRONG
Pretty standard stuff, literally any thread about any subject will be better off of its home board.
It isn't talked to death here.
I would love to see the face that gets hit by this
The moment I see somebody play a card like path of sorrows, I know I am about to be killed by some guy's pet combo they probably spent a whole day crafting, I'd mostly be excited to see it happen.
shit is expensive.Agggro is very hard in commander because the format is just a slow communal masturbation.
go on youtube and watch commanderreplay. the guy only plays commander and has an hardon for aggro, red white in particular, despite it being the least popular combination.he knows how to build aggro in commander and his aurelia decks seems to be the best of aggro.
>its on casting of the creature
Achkshually!
It's on entering the battlefield, the original printing was when wording was all over the place.
I'm glad I have a playgroup that is willing to let dumb janky commander decks exist. We even have uncommander decks.
which way is that? mana burn hasn't been a thing in nearly a decade.
I liked Innistrad
Shame it got ruined by "it was actually eldrazi all along"
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
The clause of sorrow's path that deals damage to you is separate from its tap ability.
Kamigawa captured Japanese mysticism better than any card game from Japan.
>'Wow, look at this!' - Dick Kickem
Why do they do this?
It is pretty funny, they clearly did very thorough research on japanese mythology, but it didn't appeal to the lowest common denominator weebs who just wanted it to be like their japanese animes.
Maro has gone on record saying they should have been less true to japanese mythology and taken more anime tropes into consideration for it, because actual japanese mythology isn't widely known in the west, so it didn't appeal to a lot of people.
>tfw had a combo to permakill someone's commander before the phasing rules were changed
Can't find the picture, but the combo was
1.Song of the Dryads to turn commander into a Forest
2. Liquimetal Coating to make it also an artifact
3. Have Bludgeon Brawl out on the board, meaning their commander is now also an Equipment
4. Use Magnetic Theft to equip the commander to any creature token
5. Phase the token out, most easily via Reality Ripple
When a permanent phases out, all attached auras, equipment, and fortification also phase out "indirectly" with the permanent, returning only when the original permanent does and maintaining their attachment. Under the old rules, a token that phased out would cease to exist, meaning anything phased out indirectly with the token would be stuck phased out. Since phasing is explicitly not a zone change, the owner couldn't even use the Commander format replacement effect to send him to the command zone. Additionally, there are no cards that can cause a phased-out card to return, meaning the only possible way to retrieve one's commander would be Karn Liberated's -14 effect to restart the game entirely. Now tokens still stick around while phased out, so anything indirectly phased will return normally during the controller's next untap step.
And people like you are exactly why those rules were changed.
Who goes into a game of commander and thinks "you know what would be great? If I prevented people at this table from playing commander."
every fucking blue white included deck in mythic runs teferi
its horrendous
It was an extremely janky 5-card combo that I could only pull off a couple times and only when I had enough critical mass of a board state to win shortly afterwards anyways. The combo existed mostly for novelty's sake, it would have been far easier to just go infinite in any number of ways, especially in RUG colors.
I'm gonna miss Niv-Mizzet, Parun
why is standard so terrible?
Better than c*mmander.

Of all time? Probably Emrakul because I like jank memes.
Right now in standard Agent is my favorite, because I like jank memes.

Dying to removal is one thing. Taking a card from your hand when it dies to removal is another. Doesnt mean the card can't be good, just risky.

That's why OP's card is not OP at all. If you don't have responses like this or counterspells in your deck you deserve to loose
In standard maybe, in commander this doesn't do jackshit
Frankly they should have ditched him sooner. He had amnesia, what? 3 times? Not that I really want ANY of the jacetice league replacing him, but Jace is so fucking played out.
Standard is gonna get A LOT better once rotations hit in September. Even then, Teferi is the only card that really sucks to play against right now.
I'm almost glad wizards aren't using him for anything again because they'd probably only ruin it.
