In general it's based on does the commentary add something positive to the experience. Are you learning something, seeing something you didn't see, getting hyped, etc. A lot of commentary is utterly average, some is downright terrible and worse than just game sounds, some is genuinely good

Nothing is wrong with it, per say. It's called "Deadly Blow," and people just have dumb ideas about how it works.
It means your character got hit with enough force to leave the screen. However, that doesn't guarantee that they hit the blast line and get KO'd. Most people assumed it always means a kill.

It it was accurate I wouldn't mind. But as it is now the flash is nothing but a distraction because people can come back from it so often.

The red flash doesn't account for DI. It calculates if the move would kill based on the vanilla trajectory, without accounting for the victim's DI.

Why don't smash commentators do what traditional sports guys do? They usually have a play-by-play guy and a color guy. The play-by-play guy narrates the action on the screen, the color commentator is the expert.
