good taste

64> galaxy 1/2> Sunshine> > 3d world > 3d land

how is world better than 3d land? i didn't play it, but from the videos it seemed the same generic wahoo bingbing funhouse

>Galaxy 1 just because of the story and atmosphere
Never share your opinions again, holy shit.
Gameplay wise, Galaxy 2 is a direct upgrade to 1.

Absolutely based. 3D World is underrated.

yeah but without the things that make galaxy 1 good, its a fun platformer, but there's nothing special about fun platformers

Galaxy 2 is an expansion pack to 1. Yes it's better and more varied, but it lacks the spectacle and SOUL that made 1 so good.

You know how 3D world doesn't present any real challenge until the special worlds? Well take that and make it so it never gets challenging.

Attached: 1558972490693.jpg (900x1250, 106K)

also adds a lot of new power-ups and characters that are fun to play as

Galaxy > 3D World > Galaxy 2 > Power Gap > 64 = Odyssey > Power Gap > 3D Land > Sunshine

Galaxy 2 is objectively better gameplay-wise and I’ll fully admit that, but Galaxy 1 has much thicker atmosphere, better music, better storytelling, nails the spectacle of space in general, and is overall just a more memorable experience. 2 throws out the feeling of Mario in space a lot of the time, but is justifiable since that game is fucking bursting with ideas the first game most likely threw out because of that exact reason. 3D World is fucking based and it doesn’t get enough love for being pure unfiltered bing bing wahoo without any of the bullshit, plus that elder god tier soundtrack.

World is honestly saved by the post game, the fact that most of the powerups being a blast to play with and the characters all having their own quirks.

64 is the best especially when u played it in and around launch. Magical gaming moments that will never happen again.

Having nostalgia for a game doesn't make it the best.

Honestly yeah, this is about how I'd rank them too.

I don't know where to put 64 and Odyssey. I like Odyssey just for the quality of life stuff, like not kicking you out of the level every time you grab a star and just being really imaginative in terms of unique mechanics and world design, but 64 really has the edge in terms of raw platforming, though not quite up to the level in terms of level design of the linear 3D Marios like Galaxy 1/2 or 3D World.

I think it'd maybe be equal.

Attached: 1560608014950.jpg (787x787, 49K)

how did they go from Galaxy's orchestral earworm to whatever Odyssey was

Seethe

Odyssey is just Sunshine 2 with polish. Garbage ass fucking game.

odyssey>sunshine>64>the rest
I like movement options and tight fluid controls where I can actually feel like I'm in control of mario. I'm not sure why wii era nintendo thought that adding floaty platforming to every single game would be fun

2D Mario > shit > Sunshine > 64 > Galaxy 1 > Galaxy 2 > 3D World > 3D Land > Odyssey

huh?

oh look, the two people that bought a wii u are in the thread! neat

I feel like it tried too hard to make every piece feel different to fit the wildly different kingdoms and I think it ends up having no focus because of that.

Don’t worry user, I’m sure 3D World will get ported one day.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

>All these niggers hateing on sunshine.
What's the matter you got a problem with soul?

Sunshine has soul but it also isn’t finished.

What would a Switch port of 3D World add?
I'd think Toadette would be a natural move, since they even have Cat Toadette from Mario Maker 2.

>ITT we make a list of 3D Mario games with the Top 1 being the game we played during middle school. And it all will be subjective. With that being said.
Galaxy 1&2 > 64 > Sunshine > Odyssey
It doesn't help that being younger meant you could do multiple playthroughs making every game more memorable. Nowadays you 100% Odyssey and never touch it again unless there's DLC involved.

No more Toadette please, she's getting stale.

What's broken about it?

Dunno, a lot of the newer ports just slap an extra character on and call it a day so I wouldn’t be surprised. I could see myself double dipping anyways because it really is that good of a game, and playing it in bed would be maximum comfy.

I’m not a fan of how few levels there or the blue coins that seemingly replace them.

you need to get the first 7 stars of each level to finish the game, this makes any other start unnecessary if you don't want to 100% it, and the final level is garbage. But I agree, the game has soul, it's just unfinished

The Galaxy games are definitely peak 3D Mario. There's just no way Nintendo can top those.

Sunshine is the ultimate pleb filter

How so?

>64
>Sunshine
>over galaxy
Your boomer is showing

every 3d mario after it has been mediocre at best

Odyssey>Galaxy>64>3D World
>Galaxy 2>3D Land>Sunshine

The people who hate it are shit at it.

Put 3D World after Odyssey and you'll have a perfect 3D Mario tier list, OP

i love galaxy, but i'd take a non linear platformer over a linear one any day

*ahem*
>Traditional
Galaxy 1 > Galaxy 2 > 3D World > 3D Land
>Sandbox
64 > Odyssey > Sunshine

Attached: x839K.gif (352x200, 1.86M)

I don’t hate Sunshine though, I really like it actually, I just prefer the others. The difficulty is a nice change of pace but it’s too short and there’s too much filler for its own good sometimes.

You can already play your wii u in bed user.

Galaxy 1 > Galaxy 2 > 64 > 3D World > Odyssey > Sunshine > 3D Land

man odyssey stinks on a second playthrough.

galaxy 2 > 64 > galaxy > 3d world > odyssey > sunshine > 3d land

Now 2D Mario

SMW>Mario 3>Mario 2>Mario land 2>lost levels>Mario 1>Mario land
Haven’t played any of the “new” games

odyssey has some good tracks

>SMW over SMB3
opinion discarded

SMB3 > SMW > ML2 > NSMBU > SMB2 > NSMB > NSMBW > SMB1 >ML1 > LL > NSMB2

Honestly if you have to play any, the first NSMB on DS and the Wii U version are the ones I'd honestly say are must play.

Odyssey isn't really meant to be played a second time. It's meant for you to just get better times and scores in the races and minigames.

Unironically Odyssey> Galaxy 1/2 > 64 > 3D World > Sunshine > Dogshit >Mario Maker

Galaxy 1/2 > 64 > Sunshine > Odyssey
Ain't saying it's fact. Just my personal taste.
I don't count 2D ones. Retro 2D games in a separate category.

Attached: 941.gif (480x330, 384K)

the connection would always be fucked for me.

A pile of fetid shit > any fucking 3d Mario game.
Fuck those shit controls pile of garbage games.

Fpbp

Way to out yourself as being a pleb user

explain to me how SMW is better than SMB3

How are people ranking 64 above Odyssey? Odyssey outdoes it in nearly every way.
>But muh difficulty

64 is arguably the easiest 3D. People only remember it being difficult because they played it when they were 8.

It's actually fun to go back 64 over Odyssey. I remember beating the main story and trying the post game and feeling burn out after a while. Meanwhile I can still go back to 64 again and again even years later and not feel bored within the first 10 minutes.

Galaxy 2 > Odyssey > 64 > Sunshine > Galaxy 1 > 3D World > 3D Land

The galaxy games were linear.
All stages looked open but it was never the case.
Jumped to grab one shine/star/sprite what have you. You can see a great deal of the worlds available places to go but you are not allowed to go to it because your path has been set to picking up this specific missions mcguffin.
64 and Sunshine's mission select is a suggestion. They show you and hint to you the location or what you have to do to get a Shine or Star. But the stage is open to you and you can find most of the other stars without the game rail roading you directly to it.

64>Sunshine>World>land>Galaxy games.
Simply because the World and Land games aren't lying to you.

Sunshine > 64 > 3D Land > Galaxy 2 > 3D World >>>>>>> Odyssey >>>>> Galaxy

I forgot to put Odyssey on there. it's between sunshine and World.

>Sunshine's mission select is a suggestion
Wrong.
>You can see a great deal of the worlds available places to go but you are not allowed to go to it because your path has been set to picking up this specific missions mcguffin.
Sunshine is like this as well. When you select an Episode in Sunshine, you're restricted to collecting the Shine Sprite for that specific Shine, and the game will even block certain areas of a map if it's unrelated to that specific Shine. Noki Bay and Sirena Beach are the worst when it comes to this.

you can't explore for any other shines aside from the 100 coin shrine in sunshine.
when it comes to structure it's the most linear since you have to do shines 1-7 in every level.
the galaxy games just follow what sunshine started, but their overall structure is less linear since you only need a total of 70 stars to beat the games, and you can pick and choose which stars to get at certain points.

this

The overall structure in sunshine is more linear, but the moment to moment gameplay is much more free. Mario’s moveset is just way, way more versatile, and there are often many ways to navigate any given part of a level.

That isn’t the case for galaxy, where the most open areas are usually just a small planet where you collect 5 things. Every star in galaxy has a very, very set path through a sequence of planetoids you must do in order. Halfway there’s a split to a different road and a different star, but the moment to moment is pretty restrictive.

Not the guy you replied to btw.

>Wrong.
It isn't though.
You can get quite a few shines before the stage tells you to go get them. Same with 64.
>sunshines like this as well
For a few shines. Yes. but not absolutely all of them like the galaxy games.

he's completely right though.
go back and play the game, you don't have the freedom to choose which shine you pick in a level like you could in 64.
you're forced to go through shines 1-7 in that order.

>look at me i don't rate 64 at first place, am i cool now guys?

Attached: 1555224919475.png (553x598, 385K)

overrating sunshine is the ultimate Yea Forums "do i fit in yet" npc opinion

The "Yea Forums" opinion is generally shit on sunshine.

3D Land is underrated. It isn't the best, but it's better than most people give it credit for.
