Beamdog is a guilty of a number of different crimes. Here are the major ones.

1. The Enhanced Editions are essentially a collection of free mods that had existed for nearly twenty years. Beamdog gathered them all up, slapped "Enhanced Edition" on it and resold it as a new product. There's very very little in the Enhanced Editions that wasn't already out there, and most of it is stuff you don't want (like obnoxious character outlines).

2. The games didn't sell so well and the originals were still far outselling them, even twenty years after their release, so Beamdog had EVERY digital distributor stop selling the originals and ONLY sell the Enhanced Edition. If you want to buy a digital copy of the originals now, they're "bundled" into the Enhanced Edition. Now these scumbags can claim sales from people just wanting to buy the originals as their own.

3. The infamous 600+ bugs on launch. The game is still riddled with bugs (as even a perfunctory glance over their forums show) but the fact that it took nearly two years for them to get a game that had been working fine for 20 years to reach playability after launch is telling of their wild incompetence.

4. This is where we get to the ones that really piss people off. Beamdog couldn't just remaster the game, they had to fuck with the content too. New dialogue for existing NPCs like Jaheira, Viconia, Safana, Kivan, et cetera was written in to make the characters more progressive and leftist friendly. Beamdog shills will argue that "adding content isn't changing content XDDD" but it is when the new content changes the core personalities of the existing characters. This is in addition to adding a slew of their own LGBT (hitherto there were none in Baldur's Gate) NPCs, all flooded with OP attributes and magic items to encourage people to play them despite their cancer.

There's just... not really a lot there to make a sequel to. I'm not doubting they can make a good game, I'm just saying there's zero reason to make a game called Baldur's Gate. The expansion was already going to be BG3 before they just threw it into 2.

I'd much rather they put those extra devs at making a more friendlier and easier to use editor. Was really hoping D:OS 1 and 2 would get a boatload of mods, adventures and campaigns and instead there was jack shit... They really need to make the modding a big deal for BG3.

I always thought as a side mode for a crpg having an endless dungeon of player made levels would be badass. Like the highest rated creations became official levels so the weak shit could be filtered out.

BG equipment is the most underrated aspect of these games. Very rare to get upgrades and when you do it's sizeable enough to feel. A lot of gear is specialized and plenty have downsides too. Just feels so much better than Diablo style loot.

I ended up summoning skeletons and sending then forward alone. They didn't use spells on those guys and got hacked to death.

Lightning protection spells were my next strategy after that though.

It's OP as fuck and used to be a special collector's item, but the Shield of Balduran reflects all beholder attacks back at them and stupendously wrecks their shit

Replaying BG2 right now and I'm fucking shocked at how lame and poorly written every single companion is. I had great memories of this game, and the spell slinging is still super fun, but I think that's one of those cases were BG2 had some of the first romanceable companions with their own quests, etc, but it's far from the best. Games like OS2, Pathfinder, or even DA: Inquisition had better interactions than this.

I don't have it. Google says I can buy it but I'd rather not unless I get a huge surplus of gold. Ill go without for now.

She doesn't 'go after' CHARNAME, right away. She looks for someone to open up to in her grief. Her options are Imoen, a girl she sees as incredibly naive and who gets kidnapped immediately; Minsc, a literal child; a bunch of people she just met; and CHARNAME, someone she's adventured with for months and has gotten to know fairly well. Even then, it takes longer than any of the other romances before she'll jump on your Bhaalcock.

How does the amount of dialogue in 2 compare to 1? I've been playing through 1 after finishing planescape and I'm finding the comparatively low amount of dialogue a bit of a drag.

There's a good chunk more for every companion, but it's still just one or two party banter lines and the combat lines that get old quick.
