I'm for reference. I don't listen to any game reviewers. I very rarely watch any gameplay before purchasing, and if I do it's general no commentary so I can formulate my own opinion. All I really need is word of mouth (in case the port is shit) and howlongtobeat.com to make sure I'm getting my money's worth.

Obviously, this strategy can backfire (see: Mario maker 2), but generally I get more enjoyment out of games as the need to conform to some groupthink for videogame ego is entirely removed. It also helps that I buy maybe one or two games released in the current year.
It's fine that you think that, but the majority of those games objectively have received critical acclaim. Dunkey forcefully reviews them knowing he hates the genre and succumbs to the bias. We have proof of this in his Octopath Traveler review. This makes him a terrible reviewer.

To be fair I also have a bias towards him -- I think his "silly" videos are unfunny and juvenile, which is why I'm only focusing on his reviews.

My point is that you can argue the hypotheticals of why these titles are popular all day -- but it is a fact that millions enjoy these games for one reason or another. It would be hard pressing to find a majority of flaws in one of the titles, let alone all of them. Your argument about weebs/neets doesn't make sense either because they aren't the large demographic buying these games (in most cases, xeno2 shipped ~2 million and you can argue there's two million weebs out there)

Traditional turnbased JRPGs are an abominable genre of games that spawned from Japanese developers ripping off the first few Ultima and Wizardry titles, which were rudimentary PC games attempting to emulate pen & paper tabletop roleplaying. Thing is, stuff like D&D had no practically no audience in Japan back then, so their first exposures to the idea of a "roleplaying game" were grindy turnbased shitfests with next to no roleplaying to speak of. This would be fine if their games actually evolved beyond that like western CRPGs did, but no, they stuck to making glorified wizardry/ultima 1-3 clones with the most basic bitch brainless turnbased combat imaginable. Any and all criticism that gets thrown at them is well deserved.

He never moved beyond chapter 1 (which is basically an extended tutorial so you can meet all the characters). He complained that you can't steamroll enemies. The reason is because in chapter 1 enemies scale to your level. This is done because you can start as ANY of the characters and they wanted you to still have challenging fights for when you pick up, say, the sixth character. In chapter 2 they stop scaling like that. Further, he artificially set up that fight to take longer by removing the other party members he had. So the snail is scaled up, but he isn't at full strength.
His problems with the game wouldn't have been problems if he had actually given the game a chance and played more of it but he made it clear he went into the game expecting to hate it so he looked for the flaws he could find and then used them as an excuse to just not play the game properly.
He claimed the party didn't interact with each other, but they obviously do. He just didn't actually play the game to know that.

I am seriously doubtful that was actually him and Leah in the video. The voices sound way too chopped up and edited together to sound as if they were actually there.
Plus a scandal would've broke out by now seeing as how the internet works nowadays. So unless there was a legit scandal revolving Dunkey and some snuff video he posted off some porn site breaking about, I'm not buying into Yea Forums's fan fiction.

Not to mention, bullet time that makes platforming far easier than any other Megaman game. dunkey's videos have been going downhill since he quit league of legends
i know it's the cool opinion nowadays to say that his non-league videos were better but these days he shits out an unfunny 4 minute slideshow every 2 weeks and is just coasting off of that, that is abysmal content. there's not a chance i would ever want to watch him be bad at sekiro or mario maker over watching something like escape from hell. although, i will say, the best video he ever made is not league related.

I watch him religiously and no he doesn't. Most of his humor stems from analogies and he'll reference bits of high quality literature and the like just to make a one off joke every once in a while

on an unrelated note if dunkey wants to make something look bad he will edit the video to make sure it looks as worse as possible
my favorite example is the hanzo video as you can tell the clips where he gets shittalked are different from the clips he shows where he does good, some not even being on the same fucking map

This post reads like a Yea Forumsizen trying to flash credentials but yeah he's got really high quality insight on what to look for in games, and knows how to articulate those opinions well.
I actually prefer to watch him review games I have already played, because he'll be able to describe aspects of the game that I had a vague feel about, but couldn't put in to words.

Not only that, but Octopath was marketed as a 100% red blooded traditional JRPG. The fact that he went into it thinking he would care for it at all is just mind-boggling. The fact that he then had to go out of the way to make the game look bad (even though it already was) for those sweet youtube clicks is just scummy

A good review is able to look past their own likes/dislikes and review a game for what it is rather than what they want it to be.

He's honest, but I think his commentary on the gaming scene as a whole is more valuable than his reviews. He can't really be taken that seriously considering his style. The only reviewers I take seriously are Yahtzee and Worthabuy.

They're very different games, but P5 really just feels like a more refined and respectable game. Also the story is honestly a lot more interesting. The notion of going inside evil people's minds and making them genuinely feel remorse for what they did is really cool.

XC2 kept me going because I wanted to find out the origin of the world, but it was ultimately disappointing. The gameplay got continually more complex and interesting so that helped.

xc2 is far more safe and dull, the supposed "craziness" to the story only happens in the the last 2 chapters. And it's really only not generic because those 2 chapters are mainly spent on the creation of the world and connecting itself with the 1st Xenoblade. Everything else was an action adventure anime cliche.
