Fuck that. Backers took the risk and put the money up years ahead of time. It's not just risk of nothing it's opportunity cost vs investing it in a normal fund, which also would have given them significant ROI. The game wouldn't exist without them. Officially stated or not it's definitely reasonable to expect that the day 1 backer game will include everything, and frankly any other updates for a good long while. Other crowdfunded games have done this, people who buy at retail pay for whatever since they take no risk, but the small niche that made it all happen get treated right.

Sure it's legal to fuck your backers, but it's legal for backers to be pissed off about it too. This isn't about physical swag that actually costs money to distribute, it's digital content. It'd cost nothing to give it to backers. And it's also no excuse that it was done by anyone else or for anyone else, because it was the original devs who controlled it all. They could have demanded that a condition was a license for all backers. Don't be such a fucking floormat.

I mean, if your character becomes an AT, they can't become a DLC fighter. They have a chance at becoming playable in a future game of course, but the reason people were so salty over Ultimate is because Smash 6 probably won't be as full as Ultimate and if they're cutting existing characters then the chance of fan favorite new ones getting in are even lower. The act of Pokémon fans NOT defending Game Freak is extremely, EXTREMELY recent, user. The casual fan defended XY, they defended the half-assed remake that was ORAS, they defended the nonstop railroad that was Sun and Moon, they defended the Ultra Changes™ of USUM, and they defended every bit of LGPE.

The only reason things have changed is because they're culling 'mons and not including all of them in a mainline game for the first time ever (not counting LGPE as mainline here because it was a blatant Kanto shill game not indicative of future titles, becoming a secondary series of terrible remakes at worst), which is the crimson flag that I honestly thought GF wouldn't be dumb enough to do. Now that [random fan's favorite] is potentially on the chopping block, and that even if they're in Sword and Shield they could be on the chopping block in the next game, people who have been complacent through the entire slow decline are suddenly paying attention.
Honestly there's a 50/50 shot that everyone will forget by the game's release and the game will sell about as much as normal. Hoping that isn't the case, but after seeing people eat up LGPE my hopes aren't high.

Everything you described was part of that godawful arcade game that killed the series for decades. Of course they aren't going to go back to that when it was an objective failure in every way.

It's even worse for Isaac because remember he actually wasn't in Sm4sh at all. Relegated to 2 songs and a few stickers.

A return as an assist trophy really felt like a raw deal. He polled extremely well, he's a Nintendo owned character and the IP did pretty well when it came onto the scene. All it amounted to was Sakurai effectively saying, "Oh I didn't know they cared about this guy so much! Well, I guess we can bring him back as an assist trophy, then."

But yeah at this point; not being playable in Ultimate is really the death knell. The next smash, if there even is one, is not going to have a roster this insane and I really wouldn't bank on anything Golden Sun at that time.

Nintendo understands this is a console seller. They will make one and put as many third parties in as possible.

Not to mention that there's nothing to show for it in the case of cutting down the available Pokemon in the game. The game doesn't look extremely polished. They've recycled old models and animations. The game doesn't even depart from the gameplay formula in any meaningful or interesting way from as far as we can tell. It's literally just the next generation of Pokemon with extremely cut content.

I don't think the next revealing news bits are going to calm the fire either. Prepare for another generation that has 60-80 Pokemon with 5-10 mythics/legendaries. The designs we've seen so far are passable, but nothing to write home about.

Technically all the cutscenes are done with in-game assets, but still. The fact they had that great model for 2 short cutscenes feels like an absolute waste.

I had no idea what Commander Keen was before this thread, but I looked at gameplay from previous games and the trailer for the upcoming revival, and for a series I've never even played this makes me sad.

It'd would also exapline all those silly "You fans can help us!" approach at marketing. Ubisoft probably has zero hopes nor what to do any actual effort on BG&E2 and will immediatly go "SEE? Nobody bought it, we were right to never back this up fully!" just like the original.
