At my work working considering added a raspberry pi so you don't have to connect to a personal PC. There's definitely plenty of purpose in the mechanical/electronics world.
My church is also considering one to hook up to a tv so that we can download and play videos from the web. We're using screen sharing right now but our internet sucks and its a miserable experience.
