In the old "hard days" WoW was never this grindy. The biggest grinds were optional and the anything else that took a lot of time was the fun parts. And you didn't need to do everything on some daily or weekly time log scale designed to keep you on a treadmill.

Design wise the mobile gacha level shit is very transparent.

The other part blizzard can't fix is the people. Old WoW lived at a time where there weren't many options so everyone you know played and if somehow they didn't you met other nerds in the game to play with that you would see and get to know. Now that every jackass has an internet connection and desire to get off on it, the people you meet have a higher chance of being shit.

This game plays like a shitty F2P kmmo now. I couldn't possibly understand why anyone would choose to pay $40+$15/mo to play a glorified casino. The amount of RNG in the game currently is ridiculous for a game where it's only progression is either gear or cosmetic. Not to mention they may as well have just said "fuck u wait til next expac" after ripping core abilities and passives from all classes and expecting them to function.

- Class design is at an all time low
- Progression is at an all time low
- No master looter
- No tier
- Time gated race unlocks for races that are for the most part reskins when previously races were tied into the expansion itself
- WQ's still are and have always been just more time consuming dailies and are VERY low tier content.
- The story is just outright awful in so many bizarre ways, really makes you wonder who wrote it
- complete ilvl and power level reset every single raid tier, making previous raids in the expansion irrelevant and worthless
- Titanforging
- Nazj catch up gear is BiS in 3-4 slots for many specs, making you have to constantly grind mana pearls so you can roll for ability+socket
- Premium game that you pay monthly for still has a cash shop where they place exclusive models
- Flying is time gated and tied to doing boring content
- M+ affixes are not fun, and beguiling is literally designed to specifically be annoying as possible and fuck over players.
- GCD changes literally no one asked for

My biggest question is why would anyone choose to play this game? It has to be addiction, right? I've been playing WoW since I was super young, I've grown up with it, and watched it grow into this mess. I cannot possibly think of a single thing BfA does better than any expansion; And after realizing this, my love for the game completely fell out. It's simply a waste of money now.

Lore is butchered. This is a big one, I know what was there wasn't great, but it was enough to get immersed with a good amount of internal consistency and believableness. Starting with Burning Crusade introducing goats on a spaceship and the Na'ruu from which all of light's power flows we started going down a shitty path that led only to contrived developments to justify the gameplay and create a false sense of urgency alongside ever growing threats in a villain of the week style cartoon world. We're slaying deities for breakfast, it's incredibly lame since every one has to top the previous and moves further from the realm of possibility. My suspension of disbelief has been entirely strained and snapped.

Laser focus on raiding. Everything in the game is designed to get you to do raids, and because this is the top tier content, every other aspect of the game is hammered to fit into a raiding context. Classes are no longer interesting or unique, they all simply serve as a vehicle to play a given role in the holy trinity and provide zero interaction beyond it. The entire idea of an RPG is lost, unless you consider a sports game an RPG because you're picking between pitcher, batter, or baseman.

Instanced raids also sees the MMO part forgotten as well, the world might as well not exist since everyone can sit in a hub and queue for whatever dungeon or raid they wish, be placed instantly inside, and never have to see anyone beyond the people who got placed there with them. This further reinforces the above because it's widely considered to be the only content that matters anymore.

Overall, the game is a mess and completely in shambles, it cannot be saved at this point, only further butchered down to provide the dwindling playerbase some sort of release and reason to hang around for another patch, and it's fast running out of fuel to keep even them going.

the actual movement and gameplay of characters in 14 is significantly worse than WoW. The reason I stopped playing WoW is because I'd been playing since F&F beta for vanilla. I was just done. It's still the superior game if you actually care about movement and how characters actually are used.

This is what killed the game for me. All that needless pruning for WoD and whatever the fuck "class fantasy" meant. And that year of SoO. And the dying server. And the friends never logging on anymore.
The game did a great job for me when i first started playing in the last half of cata. All the exploration and professions and progression was great imo. Getting to northrend the first time was amazing.

Used to play in a top 10 guild but got a job and couldn't keep up with splits and gearing up all the alts since blizzard decided to get rid of master loot.

Yep. Pandaren of either faction can use it to communicate cross-faction. I think void elves can speak thalasian or whatever still so they can talk with blood elves, unless they changed it. There was a neat exploit void elf mages could do when they first released, using a tome to speak all their faction languages, they'd learn both horde and alliance languages since Thalasian counted as horde, it gave them horde languages, but since they were alliance it gave them the alliance race languages as well

Pandaria was mechanically decent and aesthetically pleasing, although the plot was even worse than usual. At the very least it was the best of the nu-WoW expansions, not that that's some amazing feat.

the legendary questline was good
a few of the leveling quests were good, the one where nazgrim and the alliance commander were bedridden and threatening to kill each other was pretty funny
the stuff with emperor shaohao climbing a mountain was good
the rest was pretty miss for me, but the gameplay made up for it. timeless isle remains my favorite post-4.0 place in all of wow, there was so much to do there and so many ways to piss people off, it was great

Nothing to do with PvP. PvP only ever worked in WoW in large groups that never changed no matter what else they tried to push.

Plenty of what has changed over the years is very much for the better which I think is going to hit people hard in WoW Classic very soon.

But the biggest draw of the xpac is new races/reskins and they are all behind giant grinds to make people go back and do more of the previous xpacs parts. Its full of a bunch of timegates and hurrying up to wait is a load of shit.

I liked Legion's revisit to BC, I liked that it undid BC making a bunch of bosses that weren't really villains to anyone that played WC3. I liked class halls and garrison's before that. MoP was linear as fuck and boring in its questing, but it was pretty and monks were very fun.

I can say a lot good about the game over the years but BoA just wore me down. I've said for years they should stop making old content invalid while giving us busy work to do when there is plenty of content in the game without busy work. BoA kept old content by one xpac, by keeping its busy work. That just did it for me.

Only other xpac I didn't care for was Cata which just felt like an obligation with out any real meet to it as an excuse to hit the gear reset button. WoW is an rng collectathon for boomers. It wouldn't be nearly as bad if all the cool mogs and mounts were tied to achievements that took skill or coordination with other players to get. But no, all the really cool shit is a less than 1% drop rate to keep people subbed. IE Tusks and heavenly onyx
