Because it predicted 9/11

Redpill memes, most people grew up playing consoles & didn't actually play it, they just watch their favorite E-Celeb talk about it & parrot it for hipster points. The only response to this comment will be "Zoomer" which proves my point

because its a good game with alot of replayability. add onto that nostalgia and you got something that's very well loved.

It makes you smarter.

I don't even know any e-celebs who talk about this game. Furious Ferdinand certainly doesn't.

Go play it and find out.

Probably one of the closest attempts at absolute freedom in a video game

everything about this game is excellent. the story, gameplay, soundtrack. The graphics for the time were excellent. You just need to play it and see for yourself

One of the most open games i've played and it pretty much pioneered it. Insane amount of replayability not to mention the 10/10 setting (cyberpunk)

How is it cyberpunk? There's no trannies, rednecks or sunlight.

it does gameplay standards today's games still don't even come close to which only further fuels people's love for it.

>The graphics for the time were excellent.

That's the proof right there that you're clearly underage. I love Deus Ex a fuckton, but nobody was going out of their way to say it looked good even back in the early 2000's. It's good despite the shitty graphics.

Was novel for its time, boomers sing endless praise for it out of nostalgia and zoomers parrot their opinions because it's safe.

It makes you feel like a secret agent, everything reacts to your choices and the levels are open enough to be interesting without being empty.

>most people grew up playing consoles
>grew up playing consoles
>people
Niggers.

I bet you've never played it either you fucking retard. Your post ironically looks like it was parroted from past replies to threads like this when you say broad shit like "redpill" memes and nostalgia.

Great plot which feels like a great classic sci-fi novel
Great dialogues
So bad it's good voice acting that is funny as fuck and enhances the experience
Great non-linear level design
Excellent music
Very good visual design
GEP gun
FACT: Deus Ex is a fucking masterpiece and is one of the greatest games of ALL TIME

Great world
Great story
Great environmental interactivity
Many ways to complete missions
RPG-lite incorporated well

Because it's actually great you dumb meme lover

Is there any other game out there more political but still graceful as deus ex? I remember Warren Spector talking about how people on the right and the left were complaining that game is left/right wing biased. But in reality deus ex doesn't say what is the right answer. Unlike gender politics shit.

It's just a bunch of popular conspiracy theories, I still don't know why everyone jerks off to it like it came up with something unique and revolutionary. MGS2 has virtually the same plot if you want more of the same.

It's a cohesive whole. It blends Thief, System Shock, and GoldenEye into one game. You think outside the box, and the game actually lets you do it.

Its meditations on human government and society are not conspiracy theories.

The need to be observed and understood was once satisfied by God. Now we can implement the same functionality with data-mining algorithms.

because denton is the only character who sounds like he doesn't really care about what happens

It's mostly tyrannical government and mass surveillance is bad plot. I think both sides can agree on that (other than authoritarians)

The checks and balances of democratic governments were invented because humans themselves realized how unfit they were to govern themselves. They needed a system, yes. An industrial age machine.

What's so shitty about it? UE1 was still new back when it was released

Compare it to other games released in 2000.

Half-Life came out in 1998, Kingpin in 1999, No One Lives Forever in 2000 (same year as Deus Ex), just to name a few. Compare those games to Deus Ex and see which one looks better. Hell, they didn't even bother putting in reload animations.

To be fair half life looks worse. Although Max Payne released in 2001, it leagues above Deus Ex.

Half Life doesn't look nearly as good as Deus Ex. But to back you up, MGS2 came out a year after Deus Ex and that was a console game no less

first movie game

I can see NOLF but Half-Life and Kingpin does not look that better.
Also you guys forget how huge some of the maps were compared to other games.

The player view weapon models look much better and are actually animated. I think character models looked slightly better in HL too. Everything else is about on par maybe?

Zoomer.
and it doesn't prove your point

the graphics were average for its time. not excellent I agree but average. not every game in early 2000 looked like sh2 or mgs2.

Kingpin was pretty good looking, had some amazing explosion effects and the wounds on enemies were pretty cool and novel, characters had more advanced shadows than the black blob of Deus Ex, and the lighting was much better.

This. So much this.
You got BTFO!

>Post deleted even though there's no porn and both of the characters are video game characters
Seething jannies.

Because, despite all it´s flaws, it´s clunkiness and the fact that it is almost 20 years old, it´s still amazing today. There´s something special about it , it´s more than of a sum of it´s parts. Everything works just so well together.

Quake 3 Arena came out a few months later too IIRC

Immersive Sims is an inherently good genre because even if the story, characters, setting, etc. are quite bad, the gameplay will still be enough to make the game good. In Deus Ex, every aspect happened to be great.

There is no bad Immersive Sim because if a game supposedly from that 'genre' has bad gameplay and limited freedom, like Thi4f, it doesn't make sense to call it one.

>The gameplay
The gameplay is janky as hell. The shooting sucked, the movement sucked, the RPG systems sucked, the UI was clunky and painful to use. If this game didn't have a great story and cool atmosphere it would have been a total write off.

>It can't be apart of this genre because it's bad!
Immersive Sim is a stupid fucking term because every example of it is extremely limited in how someone can approach a situation, it's just because some midwit retard who thinks because they can save some useless NPC by killing a bunch of enemies that it has some depth that goes beyond other games.

Kill yourself idiot.

>movement sucked
??????????????
You really have problems with controlling your character in DX?

Because its non-linearity is still unmatched.

No idea, the game fucking sucks. Literally baited by Yea Forums into trying it out only for the voice acting to be embarrassing, story/writing to be alex jones cringe tier and the combat/gameplay to be outdated garbage

What other games let me bust down doors with a laser sword, leap 10 feet into the air with a rocket launcher, and use my mind to explode dudes with their own rockets?

It's perfect. I replay it every year.

Common misconception but has since been disproven.
The developers didn't want to dedicate the space required for a 360 skybox of nyc, so they used half of it and mirrored it.
They just happened to use the half that didn't contain the twin towers.

It was one of the first games to feature 3D modeled handrails. Also the bumpmapping and the translucent, animated clouds were amazing. There were like 1-2 games that looked better at the time.
People bitched about graphics because most of them ran it in software rendering or 16bpp OpenGL mode, which indeed looked like crap.

Alpha Protocol in places.

>a year after

This means nothing, back then graphics were revolutionized from month to month.

I think you underestimate the amount of 30-year old boomers that played Deus Ex on their pentium 2/3s and Athlons.

Like?

Yeah but the Q2 engine vertex animations looked really weird in Kingpin. Good game though.

Also Deus Ex was the first game I can think of that had actual lip syncing.

>The shooting sucked

Invest skill points in shooting, use laser sight or aug. You can have basically pinpoint accuracy 100% of the time.

>the UI was clunky and painful to use

How? It's literally tabs.

>mature story and themes for the time
>huge amount of freedom
>very reactive to your choices, which feel organic
>cheesy VA'ing which is more funny than bad
>deep game mechanics
The shooting sucks dick yeah but everything else usually makes up for it.

It's basically a System Shock 2 for casuals.

it really isn't. its john birch society new world order one world government conspiracy theories. mixed in with the elites creaing plagues and depopulation and whatnot

cope & dilate

You can kill the annoying kid in the Chinese market (and even have the triad bouncer acknowledge you did it and be unhappy about it but it doesn't stop your play through). I honestly can't think of another game that let you kill annoying children.

>alex jones cringe tier
hes right about many things you fucking retard

Welcome to the coalition PROD. I might as well start using coke.

The government didn't make you gay faggot.

youtu.be/LWdCqXzaHoU

illusion of choice

>atrazine isn't real
dilate

Incel pissbaby

>The graphics for the time were excellent.

phahahahaa.... NO.

i played Max Payne before it and then was first disgusted by DX1 design.
There have been some weired pattern in the backgroung/distance (don't know why how)
It all did NOT look nice compared to the way more beautiful Max Payne.
Hell...even today i wouldn't say Max Payne is ugly, BUT even back then, Deus Ex already was.

DX1^is STILL the best game ever made

good graphics doesn't make automatically good games.

Max Payne is also one of my all-time-favorite game, tho

still more choice than any telltale game lol

seriously, it would have been sooo awsome if you could have joined UNATCO instead of the NSF...
But i think this was cancelled because it woudn't fit into one CD ROM at that time

(actual dialogue starts at 3:09) They included a scene for this route, I think it was definitely intended until pretty late in the development.

conceive

yes, i know that...thank you

but i only noticed this in a youtube video years ago....even after sooo many years, there are things i haven't already explored in the game.
it's amazing

So just downloaded this game for the first time (played HR and MD, liked both)

What's the best difficulty for a first playthrough?

This is the first time I take a good look at the cover and see helicopters and the headless Statue of Liberty on the background.

Deus Ex deconstructs the concept of western democracy, it weaves various real life conspiracies and conspiracy theories into different aspects of the game's story, it shows how government and international agencies are really just a set of tools that can be used for the interests of the ultra rich and powerful. It brings up the question of the necessity of actions based off morality. It does much more than all of this, but it is just so brilliant in its presentation and execution.
