Pokemon has next to nothing going for it technically.
The new game has no scope thanks to the small number of Pokemon, the story is always bad because they refuse to hire writers or even get the writers who work on the show, the visuals are not even on par with Dragon Quest 8, and the engine which they've been using since 3DS is fucking terrible and cant handle big areas without massive cutbacks.

I'm not saying gamefreak don't need to step their game up because right now SS looks bad, but there is a difference between animating a pokemon doing 1 move from one perspective without interacting with the opponent and having however many different animations per pokemon that do have to hit correctly.
