Everyone tells me that, but even when I put him and Ryu under Bunyan the whole game, Garr was consistently dumpstering Ryu in damage.
That includes his dragon forms.
If Garr crit, whatever boss fight I was on immediately ended, it was insane.
Maybe Ryu needs a bit more care given to him with the master system to reach his true potential or there are random stat ups on levels or something, but Garr was by far my main source of damage from the moment he joined.

DQ8 is over a decade old and everyone just emulates it now, the 3DS version butchers the game's visuals and atmosphere and only adds some mediocre extra content. If they made a Switch version instead, then it'd be worth it.
