Is quina good?? I'm playing through all of the games and Ioved blue mage in FFV but I didnt love Gao in FFVI. The enemy skill materia was nice in 7 because I could attach blue mage to anyone. I just started 8 and someone told me Quistis sucks as a blue mage but i really really love them so I want to hear that Quina is good!!! Tell me!!!

they just had to make sure we know what Bahamut and Madeen's asses look like

Quina is decent to broken depending on how much you look up on the internet.
With no spoilers or excessive grinding you should have a good set of moves and won't feel crippled by having a blue mage.
With max spoilers and frog drop grinding you have a character that can do 9999 every hit without trying, who also has access to some of the best buff spells in the game and also healing.
But everyone in FF9 is strong so just use who you like.

The game is really easy, I only had trouble with the final boss so I just got the best weapons I could for whoever was possible at that point and went back and it was easy
I just played normally without a guide or spending time over levelling and getting cards and shit, I think I beat it in 30 hours which is how long it usually takes me to do a Final Fantasy
I enjoyed the entire PS1 FF Trilogy. I love 9 and it's an extremely important game for me, but honestly I was more satisfied with 8

This isn’t true. I love FF9 and have completed everything on a number of occasions (including doing E2 legitimately) but it’s story is worse, it’s side quests are limited, the card game is basically pointless, the music is great but doesn’t match 7, Trance was ridiculous, end game content was shit.

The characters and story were the biggest flaws though.

Towns were nice but there was very little to really want to return to, aside from the auction house.

In fairness, you could argue ‘subjective’ about any opinion on what game is better and why.

The story was less engrossing, there was little to no back story about the majority of the characters. The story was a lot more childish and cutesy, where I preferred the darker elements of 7 (also why I loved 8).

End game content basically boils down to chocobo paradise and Ozma. In 7 you have Ruby, Emerald and Ultima Weapon, along with lots of other unique items to get. In 9, basically anything end game to get, you just synthesise from Hades.

The one exception, and why FF9 will hold great memories for me, is the E2 quest. A truly hardcore quest to go after, I wish 7 had something similar.

7 had so many layers and backstories to be discovered. Each character had an engrossing backstory line to discover and engage with.

For some reason, the ATB in FF9 just felt completely fucking busted. It worked fine in every game before it, but here it feels awful.

Anyway I disagree with the notion that IX is childish and cute. Though its artstyle can fool, it actually deals a lot of with death and existence crisis. Burmecia, Cleyra, Lindblum, Alexandria and Terra all get destroyed along with many people in the process. There is a good amount of lore backstory with the fusion of the planets, the summoning of Alexander and the Lindblum/Alexandria wars. There was backstory for Zidane, Garnet, Steiner, Freya, Eiko and Amarant. It's explored in a different manner though. In VII every character gets his/her little moment of "this is where I was/what happened to me".
For end game content (although a fair amount of it can be done on disc 3 already, but that's relevant to VII disc 2 too) there's chocographs, Quale, Ozma and Hades. There's the reviving of Mognet Central and some other small bits and pieces. Is it as interesting? I dunno, I like side content in both games but in both games it feels limited.

Not the same guy, and I dont think its shit. But i do think its "not that great" like the story is far from perfect. Frankly I think the romance is really cheesy took too much focus. Just like 8 and 10. Zidane "you're not alone" scene is stupid, especially since vivi literally had that same arc and the little boy handled it better. But mainly, I think the rat people got shafted way too hard for literally no reason and the game hardly gave a shit at all. On top of Freya suffering a totally unrelated soul crushing tradegy. Neither of which get any closure whatsoever. In a game that's otherwise really soulful, everything about the rat people was weirdly heartless. The rats were just a macguffin who's purpose was to suffer ff9s bad stuff could be conveyed.

Also ff9s side content kind of sucks and it doesnt compare to 7s in breadth or quality.

I wish we got more awkward moments with her and Steiner.
