Which is the better franchise? Like everything combined, not which has the best game.

Resident Evil easily, fuck your psychological fantasy world where nothing makes sense.
The later Resident Evil movies are so bad that SH wins by default.
Silent Hill easily. The RE world and lore is mostly boring. Silent Hill has some pure kino
Resident Evil, though I did enjoy SH1. SH2 though lost me early on because I'm a faggot who can't suspend his disbelief with certain puzzles.
>Have to find a 6-pack of juice to throw down a chute to know another needed item out.
>Has to be that 6-pack, Harry can't just pick up up a brick from outside or literally any other object inside the apartment building to throw down the chute.
Can't stand puzzles that have unnecessarily specific ways of being solved.
Silent Hill, its just so much more original and interesting, unmatched atmosphere and thousand times better storytelling than RE. RE has better gameplay, but thats about it.
Silent Hill is nothing but a knockoff of RE and the games are WAY overrated.
Even though RE has objectively better gameplay, I find it's world so uninteresting most of the time, I don't have any urge to explore and whatnot. Silent Hill does a perfect job of building atmosphere and mystery, so it really complements the game overall.
Resident Evil.
The reason is because, like it or not, Resident Evil's mechanics force you into a certain playstyle. Silent Hill lives or dies by its psychological horror. If you don't find SH scary, then the "gameplay" won't do anything for you.
Is Silent Hill worth playing on PC? Is there a good release version of it?
Except for the fact that SIlent Hill is 100 times more kino than RE. They also introduced a much better camera system than the RE games as well.
1 emulated, 2,3,4 have pc ports. Definitely play them, some of the best vidya has to offer.
I got you covered, my nigger.

Mount the ISOs of 2 & 3, and then run their installers like always.
The SH1 is a PS1 rip that you gotta emulate.
Follow the SH2 widescreen fix site's instructions to the teeth, and you should be fine.
For 3 & 4, check the Guide.
If you experience issues saving the game / not being able to edit the disp.ini, make sure the files aren't set to "Read Only", and run the game as Administrator.
If SH2 gets stuck in a black screen upon launch, close it and re-start it again.
If SH3 runs like shit even on a strong PC, check and lower the Rendering Resolution setting.
SH2-4 do not support Xinput & PS4 gamepads natively. Either use Xpadder, a DirectInput pad, or just play with KB+M.
There's OK emu-settings for SH1 in the guide. If the image of the game does NOT fill your entire screen in fullscreen mode, check your plugin AND GPU control panel's image scaling settings!
Try the PGXP emulator for a lot less wobbly PS1 graphics.
>Protips
-Play in the release order.
-Never play below Normal difficulty.
-Replaying them all is recommended.
-Turn down the ingame Brightness setting,
-Don't try to kill everything that moves, especially outdoors.
-Turning OFF the flashlight can really help.
SH if it's only the first 4 games, RE otherwise
Don't even hesitate. As said, emulate 1 and just jump in. The games are cinematic in their approach, but you won't be buttfucked with an absurd amount of cutscenes. Movie games these days should be jealous of how kino this series is.
Resident Evil
I value fun over anything else, and RE completely destroys Silent Hill on that matter.
Silent Hill has really good narrative tho.
Someone forgot to dilate.
lmao
It's fascinating how 8 games in no Silent Hill got mechanically on par with Resident Evil Director's cut on PSX. Hell I'd even put Forbidden Siren over it.
Resident Evil as a whole. Silent Hill has more trash games, even though it has only two trash movies instead of every RE movie which is garbage. Also SH has some pretty awful comics.
The first Silent Hill movie is still the most kino video game movie in existence. Prove me wrong
Even in the name of the king was better. Angry Birds was actual kino.
Only kino Uwe Boll stuff I've seen is Postal. He was perfectly suited for that.
Alright.
This copypasta shoud be updated, it doesn't even mention SH2: EE
If we're going by the movies, the Resident Evil series is fun schlock, while bpth Silent Hill movies (yes, even first one) are just garbage.
It's terrible and lacks anything subtlety. It completely misses the point of Silent Hill.
>3 seconds are the only good part of a movie series
That's fucking horrible. Why do people make/watch this gruesome shit?
imo people's appetite for sadism is similar to porn. some people get hooked on extreme stuff and cannot get enough.
Resident Evil has more consistently good games.
Not him but will this work on ultrawide?
As a playable franchise RE most definitely wins, they've managed to actually remain a developmental priority to Capcom and the series is all over the place, for better or worse. The gameplay also tends to be much more intuitive, especially after RE4.
That said, Silent Hill nails down a really good narrative/atmosphere and honestly SH1 is my favorite game out of both SH and RE combined, if that gives you any idea of my standing.
Of course not, why would it? What a dumb question.
I think Silent Hill's highs (1, 2 and 3) are better than most of Resident Evil's and are or approach the "true art" label.
Resident Evil though is more constantly good.
All the mainline Resident Evil games (except 6) are at least good games, with some being masterpieces (Like the Resi 1 remake) with some of the spin off games also being pretty decent.
Meanwhile Silent Hill really fell apart after 3 and never really recovered.
RE survived longer. It takes the cake for success alone. It also managed to finally land on its feet again.
In terms of quality, both of them shat the bed, although for RE only Capcom is to blame, whereas SH's license was cast out from its home and thrown around the world like an unloved orphan.
SH4 was great, but pretty rough in some aspects. Room 302 was propably the most interesting thing in Silent Hill. It also has the best soundtrack.
I'd argue RE6 was still at least fun, albeit being a fucking mess and had too many gun-zombies.
Same for SH4, it was an interesting idea that still had Team Silent's inspiration even though it deviated so much.
Classic SH > Classic RE > Modern RE > Modern SH
>I'd argue RE6 was still at least fun
I'd argue the complete fucking opposite.
SH games are the epitome of unfun.
zoomers don't even know what SH is
but they all know RE inside and out
RE won the cultural victory
Resident Evil by the gameplay alone
Silent Hill 1-4 control better and are scarier thanks to better sound and monster design
'fun' is a dumb criteria to solely base all merit upon, especially for horror games with mature cerebral themes.
You can edit the widescreen fixes manually, it takes a bit of troubleshooting but you can do it
I mean it's full of annoying QTE's and hand-guided moments, but being able to roll around and chaining actions together as fluidly as 6 allows felt good. It really shines through the most in Mercs mode when you have a hundred guys in front of you.
It's not the system itself but how it's implemented that's flawed. RE6 amplified 5's problem and tried way too hard to be a Bay film instead of either a successor to 4 or a true horror game like the originals (or RE2make even).
I know, but it's retarded to argue SH>RE because RE isn't fun to play.
