Releasing the source code afterwards would have opened him up to an anal reaming courtesy of Blizzard's lawyers.

Yeah no shit, that's why he should have fucking dumped it anonymously instead of posting it on Reddit for karma

Who gives a fuck what would happen to him?

He does, that's why he didn't release it.

Honestly? I would have wiped my ass with it.

Wonder if he still has it, somebody should track him down and steal it

Redditfags have too much brain cancer to not attention-whore on the internet. Whether it's the source code to some gookclick game or a lunch made by his ebin gamer gf, the internet must know he has it.

IT WAS A PUBLICITY STUNT, DUMBASSES.

should've released it anonymously with 7000 proxies

He gave it back

The worst thing in this actually was how blizzard just rewarded it with a box of merchandise thats worth 50 dollars.

Its a company property worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and they couldnt reward the guy properly for giving it back.

with overwatch garbage too

that wasn't even half as infuriating as this thing
fuck r*ddit

Attached: All_lights_fucked_on_the_hairy_amp_drooling.jpg (159x253, 12K)

He could've just made a copy of it and dumped it anonymously; what the fuck is Blizzard going to do if they have no proof that it was him?
That aside, the worst thing about the whole situation was seeing the people in the comments defend his decision, what a fucking shithole of a website.

How?
It make blizzard look pretty bad.

>Releasing the source code afterwards would have opened him up to an anal reaming courtesy of Blizzard's lawyers
Take one for the team

Any publicity is good publicity.

What's this?
don't forget the xbox dev kit

I dont think thats true desu

DESU what difference would it make if he did release it? Tons of old games have had their source code released by the devs (like Quake 3). Plus Starcraft 1 is freeware now, so it's not like they're still making money on it.

all lights fucked on the hairy amp drooling is the first release from the band Godspeed You Black Emperor
It's basically a lost album and kind of a big deal.
there's 33 of them, a few years ago someone showed up on reddit with a copy, he ripped one track, but refused to upload the whole thing.

>McDonald's meat contaminated with super contagious Ebolaids
>millions of people screaming that McDonald's should be banned and no one should eat there
>hurt don't worry, it's good publicity

No user, this was one of the first nails in Blizzard's coffin.

That's never been true.

Shame

Still mad at that attention-seeking faggot

Attached: 1412031476727.jpg (638x647, 52K)

No shit, he's a collector holding on to it for value. The two cases we're talking about are special occasions where the people returned the rare unique product to the producers to be locked away forever or destroyed.

>but refused to upload the whole thing.
Did he at least say why?

>Reddit destroys an Xbox dev kit
>Returnd source code for SC
>This and Probably dozens of other things they are responsible for

Noticing a pattern here

Because he's a huge faggot

Access to SC source code would allow for modding at a deeper level that the current mod system does not allow. It might even be possible to crack into warcraft with the code from starcraft if the engines are similar enough.

nobody care about these old games anymore like anyone is gonna mod for a 30 years old game stfu nig
PEACE OUT

What even would happen if he were to have dumped it instead l? I can’t imagine it would be anything exciting

two?
The xbox guy just destroyed it, Is there something I am not aware of?

He is not a collector, he didn't even know what it was.

Attached: jjdsf.jpg (800x4050, 630K)

That reddit is filled with all the most privileged niggers who would sell their souls if it meant people would give them online attention?

Attached: 1562610123577.jpg (1052x1390, 133K)

Even if nothing came of the source code being released mod wise it would have been worth it just for how much it would have made those pieces of shit at activision blizzard seethe

So he realized its worth a ton probably and loses its worth if uploaded.

Doesnt make a difference if he is a collector, the motivation is the same.

It wouldn't lose value at all.

I think it would to be honest.
But thats a whole different topic.

>and loses its worth if uploaded.
I don't see why people think that. I mean, games like Xenoblade were dumped years ago but it's still expensive.

a lot of collectors hold onto things like arcade cabinets that have no rom in circulation and such. The reason is that they want to exclusively have it and brag about having something you dont, a common trait in faggots. Honestly i wish that all games get emulators and their shit backed up cause consoles die and I dont want the decay of the physical media to be the end of a good game.

Attached: 7AE8D784-754F-4703-B3DD-33ED7FFEE722.jpg (571x794, 125K)

He should have sold it for like $10,000.

Idk, it's been fairly enjoyable watching all the autists that never had any control in this situation anyway seethe about what could have been.

>implying anything would've happen if source code went public
you fags are retarded

>I dont want the decay of the physical media to be the end of a good game
Let’s be fair here: most media that goes unreleased isn’t guaranteed to be playable (let alone “good”) to begin with. The people who hoard unreleased games are fags, yes, but so are those “preservationists” who throw a temper tantrum when they lose the bid to obtain one. I really couldn’t care less about not being able to play a handful of the hundreds of thousands of video games in existence.

First; he's a cassette collector. He collects music cassettes that he likes and he listens to them sometimes.

Second, he does not particularly know nor care about the details of ripping and uploading media. Evidence: he listens to cassettes.

Finally, he posted about it on reddit and about four hundred people showed up and told him to comply with all of their perfectly reasonable demands, such as commiting federal crimes (no one sill prosecute you dont worry  ) or else they would dox him and break down his house in order to seize the means of production from the evil bourgeois pig

What advantage does he get from sharing it except for social credit from strangers and reddit points, as well as possible legal problems and a chance that it might or might not lose value?

If i were him id keep it too.

Worst case scenario: Blizzard still tracks him down and rapes him in the ass
Look up "BTK" and "tor bomb threat" to see examples of how dumbasses who thought they were anonymous got fucked

Best case scenario: He gets some empty thanks and some more internet points

>Look up "BTK" and "tor bomb threat" to see examples of how dumbasses who thought they were anonymous got fucked
The feds aren't going to investigate a video game source leak.

Well, for one, RTS wouldn't be dead. It'd be filled with reskins of StarCraft though.

These guys were probs dumb as shit.

Just get to a public computer and upload things like this.

Why would you even get the idea to do that from a private machine in your own home.

So what you're saying is is that if you have poor opsec you can get caught?
geez who'd have thought

>any one bothering creating new sprites
lol

People keep saying he should have just dumped it, but we all know that NOBODY would have done anything meaningful with the fucking code.

Why not?
We have autists making glorified reskins for Warhammer and LoTR anything.

We would probably have SC1 with SC2 quality models, if nothing else.

No it wouldn't have. He came into possession of it legally, and it was his property. Unless blizzard could prove that it was stolen (by him), the worst that would happen is he'd have to return the disc. The law is pretty great about not fucking random people who have done nothing wrong.

Found the console gamer

had - what the last good total reskin you remember?
and they always still could do that with regular SC mods for ages already, like tons of already existing ones.
No one ever bothered cause no one fucking cares for playing SC.

only the disc was physically his, not the code. You're the same kind of retard who believes he completely "owns" a videogame and can say nigger in global chat and cries when the service is then severed.

Haven't touched a console in six-years. This imaginary ideal that some God modder would have took the source and turned it into a masterpiece is just laughable. I'd sooner expect porn mods.

>not the code
good thing the code was on the disc, it was his property. You can try to bullshit all you want, the legal precedent is in his favor.

>dump it to internet
>wait a while
>make the same exact post on reddit where he said he found it in a garage sale
>now has plausible deniability as he obtained it through a means that is difficult to track and didn't announce he had just recently gained possession of it until well after it was leaked
>give it to blizzard before they catch on for good boy points just the same as what happened

Porn mods are meaningful.

>give away free shit
>looks good on blizz for the average fan
>gets people talking about starcraft
Speaking of Starcraft: Remastered, did you know you can buy Starcraft: Cartooned? Available now for only $10, play and experience Starcraft: Brood War like never before!

it's called "intellectual property"
if you find a book and you upload all of it to the internet and the author says "no" then that's illegal

Why doesn't the band just upload it for free to piss this guy off.

It's interesting how this whole thing happened a month after Starcraft Remastered was announced. That's a pretty funny coincidence!

"The legal precedent" is in blizzard's favor. They sued a bot seller for copyright violations, and the code involved in that dispute was completely, 100% made by the bot seller. None of the code was blizzard's, the program did not contain any property belonging to blizzard, but the suit was still successful.

They say they don't have it and it's basically nothing like their later work

That's the thing, with the source code you don't NEED some god modder, any limp dick schmuck with low technical skill can make something worthwhile.
Even ignoring that, are you pretending that the autistically dedicated modding and preservation communities for videogames would do NOTHING with the actual source code for Starcraft? You're delusional.

Based retard

>linking your real name in any way to a made-up internet name
Fucking normies are retarded. Put your social security number in your message board signature while you're at it.

>This fucking asshole, not dumping the code and letting me live out my dream of finally creating Starcraft: Enhanced Gold Edition v. 3.446 *FIXED* *PLATINUM EDITiON*

Who fucking cares about Starcraft's assets/engine? All that would've happened is people would make a shitload of Starcraft ripoffs and try to """balance""" the game and add more units.

Attached: 1491678644065.png (588x444, 91K)

>Seriously thinking they don't have some form of identification on the source code just in case an employee leaks it
They'd just look at the CD and match it up with the code that leaked and instantly know it's the same guy

The data on a disc is just an arrangement of grooves physically embedded in the surface of the disc, not something that exists independently. Owning the disc is owning the data.

Better look up intellectual property laws of the U.S and/or Europe.

Protip: The code is not his for owning the disc, if he isnt located in china.

>All that would've happened is people would make a shitload of Starcraft ripoffs and try to """balance""" the game and add more units.
So everything they've been doing for past decades?

Attached: file.png (480x360, 347K)

The disc literally is the data though. You can't own the former without the latter. Doesn't matter what the law says when the law is objectively wrong.

Owning "the data" isn't the same as owning publication rights to the data, though. If you have the disk, that usually means you can freely sell it, and possibly make copies for your own use, but you can't put it on the internet.

The disc has data on it. You own the disc. You are allowed to do whatever you want with the disc. You do not own the data. You are not allowed to do whatever you want with the data.

Why didn't he just leak it then put it in a trash bin for garbage pickup?

>that one faggot with a massive collection of undumped roms who releases them at a glacial pace so he can stay relevant
I fucking hate collectors

Attached: 1562786233143.jpg (640x594, 14K)

But as gamers, that guy owed us Blizzard's property. I don't know if you know this, but we deserve everything for free.

define "put it on the internet"

>not using clone CD, returning the original(copy) selling the original(copy) and keeping the original(genuine)
Pirates always win.

Attached: 1995gaming ads.jpg (1200x867, 320K)

he did the right thing, faggots somehow felt entitled to his cassette and him ripping it for free.

but I already get everything for free

brainlet here, what could have even been done with the source code?

imagine you're going to a restaurant and you eat a hamburger and you really like that hamburger
getting the source code of the game would be like kidnapping the cook at the restaurant and taking the ingredients, demanding that he teaches you how to make the hamburger

EVERYTHING

Make a better Starcraft 2 than Blizzard did

Store the data on an internet connected electronic device in such a way that it is publicly accessible via its internet connection.

Sounds like fox and grapes to me.

how2leak
>put source code on an SD card
>buy a cheap pay-as-you go burner phone from walmart paid for with cash
>put SD card in phone
>go to McDonald's or some place with free public WiFi
>upload source code to megaupload, post a link on Yea Forums, whatever
>leave, go to a different business
>take SD card out, throw phone in their dumpster
>go somewhere else, snap SD card in half, throw in dumpster
>never get caught

bomb threat = leaking video game source code
Just buy a craptop in cash, go to a mcdonalds a few miles away from your house, upload it, and then leave. You will never be caught. They aren't going to manhunt you over it.

I legit want to get the carbot skin but it costs as much as I paid for remastered. Surely it'll go on sale eventually, right mr. pretend blizzard shill?

Publish.
Make copies available to others.
Public google drive, torrent seed, your own FTP server chugging away in the garage, what matters is that someone else can download it without permission from the copyright holder.
I'm sure there's a specific legal definition in your local laws, if you want to look for loopholes, but you'll have to find it yourself.

youtube.com/watch?v=vRIHNgwH0PE

jesus christ what a bunch of shit
who cares if that shit gets lost

Not much, if any. Some shitty sc mods and whatnot.

I vaguely remember someone getting caught because they paid for a coffee at McDonalds with a card like an idiot
So don't do that either

who cares

>who cares if that shit gets lost
Because ultimately everything has value and just because something is rare it shouldn't disappear.

you do it from an internet cafe and wear a mask

the shit I took last week is rare too
go to the sewer and look for it

You don't even need to go in. The McDonald's near my house you can connect to their WiFi from out in the parking lot.

Enhanced modding
using the code as the basis for other games
Possibly gaining a better understanding of the other blizard rts since they might be programmed similarly

Trying to do it at multiple points seems to me like it would make it easier to get caught

Burner phones aren't untraceable if you go in there and buy them yourself in your own town.

Because collectors are greedy little cunts who get off the idea that they own something and others don't, it's the only thing that makes their little monkey brain tick and that's why it's Ok to dump roms without their consent.
Preservation of arts >>>> shit > their faggy eggotrip

>Look up "BTK" and "tor bomb threat" to see examples of how dumbasses who thought they were anonymous got fucked
If its the bomb threat I'm thinking of, the kid would've actually gotten away with it had he sent the email in a public network (mcdonalds, starbucks, etc) and not from within his own dorm

Then don't pay for something with a card. You upload it on McD wifi and leave. Preferably throw away the device too. It's not as if they will get the FBI on you and observe the security cameras and post your face and bounty on the news.

Imagine the UMS potential with the source code

Attached: 1562004185310.gif (267x320, 452K)

Who cares, some autist will reverse engineer it and develop a clean room implementation like with Diablo

The balls you would need in the current year to make an add like that. It was even pretty ballsy back then

Even the band that made it have basically said they don't care about the work, think it is garbage, and their real debut is their next album.

There was also that beat their high scores one
I would like to see them do that again but with modern african/middle eastern dictators and shit
Oh wait I forgot, it's a fucking mobile franchise now

>Yea Forums zoomers trying to comprehend gybe
Just go back to listening to the epic based hotline miami ost.

I turned 29 today
any other buzzwords instead of arguments?

>better quality of life/modern system compatability
>allows you to port it to other OS or as homebrew for older consoles + Xbone (if you enable dev tools, which is now on every console) + Switch
>allows you to add new engine capabilities, check out OpenRCT2's openGL mode as a great example
>Extremely well preserved thanks to git. Even if the source code is taken down its no big deal as it'll be cloned by someone else

Goddamn awful food analogy, user.
Finding the source code for Starcraft was more like going to a restaurant for years because you love it until it goes out of business. Not because the food was bad but mostly poor management meant the restaurant let most of their best chefs get frustrated with the work environment until nobody even knew how to really make the food anymore.
Then a huge franchise like McDonald's buys the brand name but their food doesn't taste as good because it's made more cheaply and by different, inferior chefs that all have strangely dyed hair for no discernable reason.
Then one day, someone posts online a picture that proves they have the original cookbook from the original restaurant in their possession.
Eventually, after some peer pressure and social shaming, this person sends McDonald's that original cookbook (that could be one of the few copies left in existence) for a coupon for ten Happy meals.

>I turned 29 today
Happy birthday, I wish you to not give up on your dreams, keep at it, bud.

Attached: 1281983110428.jpg (603x720, 120K)

Don't bring your actual phone with you, either. If you happen to cross between towers they can see the two phones travelling together and tie the burner to your real number. Also hire a homeless guy to buy the phone for you so you're not on walmart's security cameras. Wear a bald cap and some glasses, put a rock in your shoe to change your gait, and take a bus or a taxi a few towns or states over to avoid traffic cams or uber "paper" trails and hire the homeless guy there. Do your business as fast as possible and dump it, the less time you spend and travelling you do with the phone in your possession the better. Disable auto-connect to wifi right off the bat. Make sure you only ever connect it to one wi-fi source so they can't track your MAC address between networks and identify you on any cameras as the one person who was in both places at the right times. Take the battery out as soon as you're done and hold the power or hang-up button for several minutes. Don't forget to wipe prints.

>Redditor guts an OG XBox dev kit for karma
>Redditor gives StarCraft source code to Blizzard for karma

What else had Reddit fucked up for everyone?

They have cameras in the parking lot too, user.

Couldn't you just use a VPN? Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Blizzard had gotten wind of someone uploading the source code, they'd obviously start their investigation where it was uploaded. If the uploading service obliges to their request, they would be able to retrieve the IP from the person who uploaded it (and then possibly inquire the ISP responsible for that IP at the given time), but since that person was behind a VPN, it would be up to the VPN service and I doubt they'd give a shit or else they would get shit on if it were revealed that they screwed over a customer's privacy (since this isn't even close to something like distributing CP).

Stop acting like this is a mission impossible government hack where they will have a nation wide manhunt for you. It's insane.

you’re free to put it on the internet all you want. Hell you’re free to make copies and hand them out on the street. Just not for monetary gain

It was his possession, Blizzard couldn't do shit if he wanted simply to sell it on ebay. Absolute fucking retard.

Thats the craziest fucking thing ive ever seen written on this website

If it were me I'd release the source code in Yea Forums right away, nobody cares about the law in Brazil huehuehueheu

Yeah, but they can't see inside my car. How are they gonna know I was doing anything naughty in there?

>found disk after it was leaked

user, that's just the basic entry level shit.

It was possible with Diablo thanks to japanese disc which contained some data files.

But you can't really prove it was him even if they did match the cd to the code ripped. They would know it was him, but he'd have some deniability. Obviously he's not the first owner of the cd. It's possible some employee could have had it, ripped it, then thrown away the cd. The guy then finds it and turns it in.
The whole world would know the guy was full of shit but they couldn't really prove it.

Not only a funny coincidence, but a pure one at that

Attached: 48BD2452-7A7D-4C93-BFC5-FA93CE0B66FF.jpg (552x680, 125K)

you don't even need to do that, just use a vpn that isn't total garbage

>Blizzard

The only thing they can do right is emulating what they did right 10+ years ago when they werent fucked. Thankfully this year has a huge rerelease and a remaster.

I enjoyed playing Civ V with Mass Effect mods. If the units could be changed that would have made them 100x better. Imagine an Advance Wars skin or literally any game series you enjoy and being able to craft a scenario with those characters with Starcraft gameplay. Would have been really cool.

It's a lot more simple. Here's how it goes with leaking it
>Guys the source code got leaked
>Where?
>It was leaked in some McDonalds
>What device
>Some laptop that is destroyed and in the garbage now
>Where'd they get it
>They paid in cash or there is no paper trail
>Well what did they look like?
>Some guy in a hoodie, they didn't park in the lot either
>Damn, well guess that's it.
The end

BTK got caught because he directly asked the fucking Kansas PD or whatever if they could track him through floppy discs. He was not a good example for this.

B-But Blizzard and the intellectual property mafia!

Is this just some lazy bait, or is that actually the case where you live? Where is it?
In most of the civilized world, copyright law doesn't care whether you're getting paid or not.

maybe so, but even tho theres a lot of shit that is not worth to preserve, theres a lot of hidden gems and curiosities that people deserve to see.

Cases in point: Vertexer
youtube.com/watch?v=deugYHEbzmE

>Marble Man (Marble madness 2):
youtube.com/watch?v=uN31UqW-GHU
youtube.com/watch?v=8NOmGR00MRQ

>Roadrunner Laserdisc:
youtube.com/watch?v=L1BL_nkq64w

these games are officially hoarded by jerks that think we have to suck their cocks for them, and as far as i know, that is 100% bullshit.

>people think this was anything other than a marketing stunt set up by blizzard to set up buzz for starcraft brand for the upcoming starcraft remastered.
How fucking convenient that the gold master source code just so happened to be in a random ass ebay bundle where some ex blizz employee's mom decided to throw it in a bundle with out ever looking up the value of it first or including pictures of it on the item listing or asking her "son" what any of it was and if it was ok to sell. How convenient that this all happened 2 months before starcraft remastered launched.
This shit just doesn't fucking happen anymore, and is on tier with shitty creepypastas where a kid finds a beaten up pokemon game in a flea market.

Attached: 1543953888946.jpg (1280x720, 131K)

>In most of the civilized world, copyright law doesn't care whether you're getting paid or not.
Copyright law is the biggest load of horseshit and should be subverted at any possible opportunity

There are identifiable components to that laptop that can be used to trace it back to when and where it was sold

Buy it second hand from some computer store.

Are you that much of a goody two shoes that you have no idea how to conceal your actions?

Why do you people care for this? So you could make starcraft clones? whoop de doo

Attached: 1557598078383.gif (255x191, 2.71M)

And again, that is some next level FBI forensic shit they would use to hunt down a terrorist, not some guy who leaked the source code to a 20 year old game.

Yes, you don't need to do the dumb phone shit.
1. VPN
2. Create torrent
It's that simple, just obviously don't do it on something like University network.
Your home network is fine.

I agree. Fuck the corporate lobby.

>find original owner
>ask what they did with it
>"oh i sold it at Some Computer Store"
You'd have to know the inner workings of the store and the history of the laptop in order to know for sure its second-hand sale was not traceable. Just steal one.

>mom decided to throw it in a bundle with out ever looking up the value of it first or including pictures of it on the item listing or asking her "son" what any of it was and if it was ok to sell.
Uh, yeah? To a lot of boomers, video games are just childhood toys. The idea that they might be valuable or worth holding onto doesn't occur to them.

Even if he never signed any NDA?

No. This is the type of shit that private investigators and journalists do, not just the FBI.

That's FBI level investigation that I doubt they would do. Besides, if it's an older $50 craptop that's switched hands many times it would be almost impossible to find the original owner and trace the line, assuming he even remembers who he sold it to.

Sure, but he would have been remembered as a hero.
Now he's just a faggot.

>Okay sir what’s the nature of this investigation
Uh... some guy uploaded a game onto the internet

and over 20years old at that

Whats the big deal? Why should he not have goven it back?

I have a question. If I discover the source to a video game from like Square Enix and shit and bought it at a garage sale/pawn shop. Do I have legal rights to keep it and use it however I want on my computer or can like SE recall it back?

It absolutely was staged
I know this for certain because that disc is exactly what the archival copies stored at Blizzard's archive room look like currently. Archive copies are reburned from one of several master copies every few years to ensure they are always in good condition. These specific discs in this specific style have only been in use for a couple of years, having been reburned very shortly before the supposed 'leak' in fact.

don't ask me why I know this

You dumb nigger, an entire fucking genre worth billions of dollars was created out of Warcraft Modding.

More than that. Starcraft is a historical landmark in vidya history user and we can see what's all in there.

PIs will literally investigate anything for the right price.
They make bank just proving people's significant other is fucking someone else.
That's not illegal in the slightest, but some PIs make a living just doing that.

And? He bought it at a garage se after it got leaked. There’s no evidence proving it was him. Especially if he waits long enough to reveal he has it.

Please tell me you're a former or current employee at Blizzard with proof please? and how do you know this?

Private investigators don't work by obeying the letter of the law. HP hired some private investigators who wound up doing shit like rooting through peoples' garbage, requesting information from telephone operators by pretending to be someone else to access private unlisted numbers, etc., all in order to find a leak.

>private unlisted numbers
It wasn't their phone numbers, it was their phone RECORDS
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hewlett-Packard_spying_scandal

Going to third world shitholes and leak there works too

This. It was waaay too coincidental to believe. It reeks of shitty astroturf marketing, where a salesnigger can drum up massive waves of attention for like, what a cost of a single image and a reddit post.

Anyone thinking that source codes means nothing is either a blizzshill or a consoleturd retard.
here is an example: youtube.com/watch?v=5tADL_fmsHQ

Would someone like Blizzard really go out of their way to prevent a source code leak like that? That's insane.

What was wrong with giving it back?

Here's how it goes with leaking it.

>upload it somewhere from my home PC
>do nothing else because its perfectly legal to do and I don't live in a banana republic ameristan

No, but it's fun to imagine.

You're really underestimating what companies will do when they believe their money is on the line.

>what is DMCA
>what is WIPO

>DMCA
I think you mean EUCD

With security cams everywhere, good luck with that.

When was the last time you got out of basement ?

I don't care about third world laws. I'm not a US citizen. Also, it would be perfectly legal to upload it here as file sharing anything for non-profit purposes are legal. Try to wrap your corporate-worshiping amerishart brain around that.

WIPO is respected and enforced by every UN nation except for a small handful of tiny literal whos, and it was the basis for the US's DMCA

so what's stopping him from just opting to sell the disk to whoever on reddit and doing a bid

since he bought it at a garage sale and the disk wasn't ever declared as stolen or anything, I doubt Blizzard could really do anything about that other than just buying themselves

Do you even know what WIPO does or you are literally unable to comprehend the concept of not being a corporate cocksleeve?

it sure as shit doesn't let you upload the source code of an intellectual property you have no rights to.

"to encourage creative activity, to promote the protection of intellectual property throughout the world"

And I ask again, do you even know what WIPO does cause I'm getting bored. And yes, it lets me do exactly that. The ability to upload anything and download anything for personal entertainment as long I don't profit from it and its would be up to blizzard to sue and prove otherwise.

People rebuilt Morrowind from the ground up so they could play it as a coop game man, it's a thing that actually happens.

he is a consoleshitter, he can't wrap his turdbrain around something like this.

>it's fine until it gets taken to court for it and get found guilty of a violation
That's how all law works, user. And blizzard has a history of going after anyone and everyone they can. Do you honestly believe your government would find your use of the data you shared in line with what you quoted in and side with you over the one holding the rights of the intellectual property?

Even though holywood giants try to stop people from leaking their billion dollar movies on torrents, people still do it, you guys really think that blizzard would manage to shutdown a guy releasing code from a game that is 2 decades old? srlsy guys...

And that has literally nothing to do with the source code of Morrowind. It was built in a completely custom made engine and assets are ported over.

Repeating it won't make it true.

Once it's leaked you'll be helping the community and having other people create Starcraft content that you want.

Also, it's not hard to be anonymous online. Change your mac address and post from a busy internet cafe. Problem solved.

>People rebuilt Morrowind from the ground up so they could play it as a coop game
in their own custom engine that has nothing to do with netimmerse.

All right, last chance to not be a retarded amerishart, do you know how WIPA works and what does it enforce? Hint: not what is in this discussion right now.

>And blizzard has a history of going after anyone and everyone they can.

Oh wowie, so they could sue at me at the local county court, get a hearing appointed like 50 days down the line and the judge just hands me a C&D after a 15 trial of a no contest. Or wait no, they would ask blizzard to prove what they were damages were and when they couldnt the case just get dismissed. Meanwhile the content has been uploaded to 9001 mirrors already.

>Do you honestly believe your government would find your use of the data you shared in line with what you quoted in and side with you over the one holding the rights of the intellectual property?

Yes exactly. That would happen, because zero damages were caused and there is nothing to seek legal remedy for. It boggles my end how an amerishart literally can't imagine not being a corporate cocksleeve.

What if he gave the disc to someone, pretended someone robbed him for it, and then his friend anonymously uploads the source code?

It was a fake publicity stunt. Anyone who owns a copy of that has a brain and knows that to release it secretly

had a hearty chuckle at this, good post

If people were willing to do that, why wouldn't they be willing to do something major like that if they did have the source code?

Because Bethesda has an army of autistic modders that they're now hiring full time via the Creation Club. Starcraft doesn't.

And why do you think they have that army?

meant for

who cares about this, the big fuckup was the xbox machine

>I'm retarded and can't into anonymity 101
good thread retards

Nigga we aint planning a murder

why is it always reddit and never Yea Forums?

Reddit is full of moralfaggots. Why do they even bother asking Reddit if they know exactly what those retards are gonna say? It's like asking on Reddit if Trump is good.

well people have called legit FBI leakers fake and gay here so...

yes they are. better than having a wife imo, if all i want is to have sex and pleasure my way.

Nah, this ain't a murder. This is actually serious.
This is video games.

He should have sacrificed himself for the greater good. I would have announced publicly I found it and thus owned it. I am not responsible for how a Corporation treats its source code. If it was so important then they would not have lost it.

From there I would have released it on github.

IMAGINE
BEING AT COMPUTERS

Now we could have a proper SC:Remastered without shitty and outdated mechanics, this happens when good things falls in faqqot hands.

this. It's like finding a Tiger tank on your barn, If people really cared they wouldn't leave around.

also, as other have said, I feel this shit was all staged, dunno if was by blizzard though.

Yeah, but unless whoever owns the laptop throws in the garbage (and some states consider garbage is your property while it's on your grounds to be disposed of), the PI can't do anything legally. Assuming they do all the work to find out you were the one that bought that laptop that leaked that information (which is a very tall order), they'd have to actually figure out if you own the laptop or not. Which they can't unless you willingly give it to them or toss it out completely. They'd then have to go to the police and convince a judge to sign a warrant to confiscate it but that's a big if since a lot of evidence is circumstantial and makes a lot of assumptions.
Evidence gathered from PIs are usable in court and has won and lost cases, but they have to follow a strict policy to make sure it stays admissible.
And this is a big fucking if since I really doubt Blizzard would go this much effort since they've been giving out source code disks to their employees and there's multiple people that could have leaked it and somehow got it.

It won't go to court, Blizzard will just send assassins.

If a corporation sues you for millions of dollars, what if you just kill yourself or even just threaten to kill yourself? You'd get out of the lawsuit and your family might be able to sue the corporation into a settlement and get a lot of PR.

>kill yourself
>make a long ass suicide note blaming whoever sues you for constantly harassing them, driving them into despair, make that shit public for everyone to see
>get to get out of a lawsuit and die

win win if you ask me

>leave, go to a different business
why do you need to go to a different business?
you mean just throw the SD card in different place?

I went to Computer's last week, it was good.

Have you tried not living in a third world country?

If that's the route you're taking, you could just kill some company employees, and still have a good long life ahead of you in jail.

Programmer here.
While it's completely possible to reverse engineer an engine, game, or software even without the source code it is literal hell to even try it.

For example, the Silent Hill HD collection was a mess because they couldn't reverse engineer the lost source code and instead had to work off of retail versions of the game and unfinished code. Before Fresh Supply, Blood had to be reverse engineered from the leaked alpha and other open source Build engine games and even then it wasn't perfect.

Completely possible, but horrible to do if you don't have anything to work off of.

You'd still be sued then

>the internet must know he has it.

>LMAO LET ME HAVE FUN YOU SO UNPLEASENT

What is Starcraft, what is source code, and what is this disc?

Yeah? What are they gonna do? Put me debtor's prison if I can't pay the damages?

Throw your phone onto a semi truck or train. Hiding 101 is to send it across the country.

I'm not going to quote every post you've made, but rest assured that literally every single one is completely wrong and retarded. Stick to console gaming, which I'm fairly certain you have never left.

A dead game series that people have nostalgia for, the inner workings of a game's code and has everything that makes the game run (retail isn't source code), and this is the gold master of Starcraft which is the first printing of Starcraft with the source code on it.

Didn't BTK ask the police "Hey, can you guys figure out who I am by looking at the history of my files"?

Yeah and I think they also make your family pay instead.

in America, yes.

Ah thanks for the rundown. I thought Starcraft was that “game” that has the spaceships that cost like thousands of dollars in real life money to buy even though the game isn’t even out yet. What game am I thinking of?..

bullshit

He already turned in it years ago for a shitty Blizzcon pass and some onions goodies

Well, if the family gets too pissy, I can always kill myself in prison.

star citizen.
ffs user, read a newspaper now and then.

Star Wars of course!

Not everyone lives in 1984: The Country AKA Englanistan

>Post source code on some file hosting site
>Walk away

He was too retarded to do that

Family members can only voluntarily assume debt, and that if assets are transferred that would have normally been sold off. Souirce: my dad died in a shitton of debt. The lawyers called me and my brother and told us that if we wanted to keep his house, we'd have to take on the debt, otherwise it would be auctioned off. My brother and I were in good spots, and my dad was a lowlife with nothing to his name and a shitty hovel so we told them to fuck off and deal with it. We went with them to pick up whatever personal belongings we possessed in the house and went about our lives. My dad never game me his copy of Doom with the original box and instruction manual, but I told those fucks it was mine anyways. They only care about big assets like furniture and cars anyway

Too eager for internet feel good points.

Sounds like some tryhard bullshit. Why should I care?

literally nothing of interest on there

You?
You probably shouldn't care.

It was a stunt

Holy fucking kek. Where do you live? Security cameras in a public library? Are you crazy?

I bet it's Britain.
Safe under watchful eyes.

realistically, nothing. he got like $500 and a trip to blizzcon. that doesn't exactly total the value of that disc is what bothers people and also no one likes blizzard.

Step 1: Laptop from local school/business's E-Waste pile
Step 2: Image disc
Step 3: Free VPN from somewhere like Vietnam
Step 4: Park somewhere with free wifi and no cameras
Step 5: Upload
Optional step 6: Find some promo USB drives or other free storage media, copy .iso and then mass mail them francis e dec style to archivists and people interested in the game and wait for the first one to mention it before you upload

This is serious business user, vidya is involved.
BRB Take two got a search warrant for my house

I would've made a NSFW /d/ level clone for fappin' and playin'.

user, there's no such thing as too much opsec if you are doing something illegal.

it hurts

Drug addicts hang out in local libraries here. Bathrooms and internet access attract some shit people.

mostly diddlers and heroin addicts here in america

>gibs me dat for free the thread

The faggot wanted his e-fame, so now he's got it.

XBox owners, everyone.
If you want access to developer tools, buy yourself a PC.

The point of music is the music, and not the poetry.
That's why it's called music and not poetry.

>wojakposter posts absolute cringe
Sasuga

I was highly disappointed when I finally saw them live a few years ago. There's often a big difference between music you like to listen to, and what works as a live act.

He could've done both

You guys remember the dude who got the half life 2 source code or whatever the fuck it was he had? Niggers at valve changed the whole goddamn game because of that.
