Black guy here, I got hired by a game studio a few months ago to work on a new game coming. It seemed cool, but there's some problems. It's supposed to be a third person shooter/brawler hybrid, with guns, and hand to hand/weapon melee combat. So far it's fun and fast and responsive in tests and the people we let test it like it a ton. But there's some problems...
-the artstyle is too realistic, it looks similar to the Resident Evil games, which were ruined by becoming increasingly realistic looking. I wanted it to be a cel shaded anime style, as that ages way better and makes gameplay look and feel more fun than realistic visuals do.
-I had an idea for a character, she was supposed to be a Black woman; namely a female assassin with brown skin and very Black features, short kinky hair too(think Lupita N'yongo from Black Panther). She was also going to wear more traditional african themed clothing, particularly the colors of African Unity(Black, Red, and Green). She was also going to have a thicc body, as a way of celebrating different body types of women, particularly African American body types that Black men like myself find attractive(picture a body like Nicki Minaj in her Anaconda video). But they changed her to some half asian woman with really long hair and a generic "tacticool" leather bodysuit instead, she basically just looks like a biker ninja instead of my unique and African styled design. Worse, they gave her tan skin, almost like some kind of slap in the face and mockery of the character I designed, as if they were saying "Hey, you wanted a brown girl character, here ya go!" They changed her body type too, now she's "slim" and "athletic" instead of what I intended, another slap in the face.
Pic related, her face and body remind me of Ada Wong, but with long hair and brown skin. I'm so sickened by how racist this studio is, it's disgusting.
This is obvious bait but how the fuck do you think game dev, or creative projects in general, work? You think you can get hired for a project and immediately impose creative changes? Especially major changes, like the ENTIRE art direction.

Look at games like King of Fighters, K' and Krizalid and O Zero could have been great representations of Black men in fighting games, but instead of making actual Black men, they make tan/brown skinned fucking asian people, and do some dumbass "who knows what race they could be ooooooooh" shit. Then give us an actual Black character and it's some dude throwing fucking basketballs and shit, come the fuck on man. It's a slap in the fucking face.

Resident Evil 5 and 6 marked the downfall of the series. They made the character models look way too realistic, and the focus on action ruined the games. They look and feel like John Wick movies with horror elements instead of actual horror games. I wanted this game to be in a cel shaded style because it ages better and realism shit is overdone. I can't stand how RE2 Remake looks or DMC 5, it looks ugly as shit and already aged poorly.

As someone who browses GameFAQs and YouTube's Alt-Right clickbait channels looking for Anti-SJW/Alt-Right audiences to debate with, I know about them all too well. These people have always been in our society but seek solace in gaming. Gaming is a fantasy lands that, in their eyes, should be a reflection of everything they've always wanted but can't get out of life. It was made with white men in mind, and now that it's starting to change to better reflect its audience, they feel like they're being attacked. Western gaming is taking steps to diversify their protagonists, diversify their developers, and create female characters that aren't grossly sexualized, and they hate it. So they move on to Eastern gaming while condemning Western gaming for its themes of progress.
What's interesting that I noticed about GameFAQs topics and stuff on Yea Forums, and how they align with the Alt-Right, is that you see this pro-Japan agenda theme frequently. It first takes the form of "Japan makes better games" or "JRPGs are superior." But then, it starts evolving into the fetishization of Eastern women, which is a common theme with the Alt-Right, due to fantasizing the submissive stereotypes of Japanese women. They then start talking about how Japanese gamers hate progressives in America due to censorship, and how their culture is really traditional is what makes it superior. Slowly, but surely, it evolves into a "this is why homogenous societies are better" argument, because the themes fill every checkbox in what interests them. Women, traditionalism, homogeny, white, etc..
I'm not sure what can be done about these people, honestly. To me, they're in the same category as the Alt-Right It's really hard to get into an honest conversation with some of them. Some of them have no intention of ever changing their views, even if they acknowledge they're in the wrong.

If hes larping as concept artists then it makes no sense since who then made the new concept? He would be in charge of remaking it, in fact his job would be to make hundreds of those concepts, he would be first to know about any changes.
And if he Larping as a game designer or art lead, then he would be above the concept artists and character modelers, and him and other game designers and leads would decide on changes, as art lead it would be his job to decided on the final look. So ether way he would not be suprised about any changes as he would be in charge of deciding or first to know ether way. Even in a studio of 200 there will be only few art leads or maybe even one working together and art teams would work together often with few people on helping each other. Making AAA character requires usually of collaboration of multiple people, concept artists>modeler>guy in charge of topology>guy doing the rigging> probably same guy doing the animation>if mocap its done by one anotehr person>mocap clean up guy>shading and compiling done by art leads usually who in chareg of final look And with 1-6 months pipeline half the studio would see he designs.
Overall the recent SJW wave in agem requires people in charge to make all those decisions, by the time it happens its usually irreversible. Studios will fire normal employes 100x faster than leads and game designers. Thats why Blizzard and Bioware is fucked.
