Since Valve obviously isn't going to make Episode 3, what dev would you want to make it?

Unironically Gearbox

I mean if they do as good a job as they did in OpFor I'd think it would be good. I just want to see the story wrapped up even if the game itself is shit, also it would be sick to see shepard make a return

I think Randy burned his bridge with GabeN.

as long as randy has no input

Cant wait for anthony/ashly burch's Half Life 3 with le ebin pc friendly characters, story and jokes

>opfor
>adds a ton of new weapons, areas, enemies and allies
>blue shift
>less weapons than the original game and no new npcs aside from rosenberg which you have to escort with Half Life 1s mediocre pathfinding
was blue shift rushed or what?

i bought orange box twice- orange box xbox 360 and bought half life 1, 2, episode 1, 2 from like free games and things on steam. i could barely play the games because i get motion sickness from the games.

I always wonder why people say blue shift was better

But the official Orange Box web site still, to this very day, refers to the Episodes as a trilogy.

orange.half-life2.com/hl2ep2.html
>Half-Life® 2: Episode Two is the second in a trilogy of new games created by Valve that extends the award-winning and best-selling Half-Life® adventure.

its ok in the fact that its more half life and you get to see more locations in black mesa
but its by far the weakest entry of the original game by a long shot

guess they forgot to change that
just like they forgot to finish ep3

But there's a script already made, Epistle 3.

theres a script for the general story
not the dialogue

Crowbar Collective

takes them 6 years to finish the last 90 minutes of the game

*Entire dev team dies before it's completed and their children have to finish it*

>HL3 is gonna be done someday after Gaben and/or steam dies due to the power of its name alone
>people posting here probably won't be alive or won't care to enjoy it when it's out
>it's likely to be a mediocre cash grab anyway
Why even live.

>the kids start the game from scratch

Id

It was originally for the cancelled half life Dreamcast port. PC got OpFor, PS2 got Decay, and Dreamcast got BS (Blue Shift). Since the Dreamcast died Gearbox didn't want their work to go to waste so they ported it to PC

Hopefully Project Borealis turns out well.

If it's anything near to Black Mesa's level of quality I don't mind waiting another decade.

arkane could do the setpieces but valve's writing is pretty unique

It's been a decade since anyone at Valve looked at that webpage.

do you guys think HL was intended to continue after epistle 3? the ending is kind of weird, but I can't tell if that's just marc laidlaw accepting that HL is dead

>do you guys think HL was intended to continue after epistle 3?
It was to end the Half Life 2 arc but not Half Life as a whole. Kinda like when HL1 ended.

Royal Rudius Entertainment

With that ending? No way, only a script with Deus Ex Asspull all over it would be able to continue it.
That script feels very Arthur C. Clarke ish and a good game made for it would go in the style of Childhood's End, I feel, so if Gabe started to actually boss people around HL3 could have been a great, memorable game which would be basically Xen, but fucking mindblowing instead of meh.

TURN THE SHIP

/thread

in a lot of ways, dishonored accepts the 4th wall far better than the HL series ever did despite freeman's mind single-handedly saving the series from its garrish genocidal deliverance

Wasn't arkane working on an episode 4 before it got canned?

Wasn’t another studio making HL Ep4: Return to Ravenholm?

Yes

Attached: robert-wilinski-s-07.jpg (1024x950, 113K)

yeah but that was a spin off
not an actual sequel

Isn't it funny how we are all going to die without knowing what the GMans deal was?

Even if Valve said it would be just another zombie game I would still want it

Maybe we'll know in the afterlife.

Reminder that people have died waiting for Episode 3 or HL3.
They have been spared of the knowledge that neither will ever come out

Its a shame they never got to read epistle 3 though

Croteam.
They have shown they are good at level design, writing, ambiance and gameplay, and most importantly they could bring a tech improvement which is the signature for a HL game.

/thread
>parts of dishonored looks like hl2 city 17
>prey's combat and setting is similar to hl1

>G-Man takes Alyx with him towards the end of Epistle 3 for no reason

Titus

They said Xen is going to be 1/3 of the game, so around 6 hours though.

Nobody. I don't care, I've moved on. Frankly, HL2 was ruined by those lazy-ass episodes anyway. It had a perfect ending and the episodes felt unnecessary. There was certainly room to tell some interesting stories there, but the episodes were not those stories and Gordon's story had a perfect conclusion as far as HL2 was concerned.

Yes. As a matter of fact Valve's art director Viktor Antonov left to join Arkane on Dishonored, hence why everything felt so much like Combine tech and City 17 visually.

Laidlaw spoiled the entire plot, is there even a point? We know it ends with a Dyson sphere, and the fact he faced absolutely zero legal against from Valve showcases how much of a shit they give about their flagpole franchise

as it is that was nothing more than fanfiction

It was posted by him multiple places, and even verified by a couple other disgrunlted ex-Valve guys, how is it a fanfic? Because there's no game behind it?

Project Borealis and/or Boreal Alyph

I think Project Borealis is looking pretty good. I don't know that we really need too many more redundant Ep3 projects. I'm glad for it to be done as 'enthusiast' fandom-based non-commercial projects, at least to start.

All that said I actually am pretty confident that HLVR (confirmed coming this year, guys) will actually turn out to be 'surprise' HL3, running on the assumption of the rough events described in Epistle 3 being the canon, but also, by Epistle 3s own ending, leaving them all behind for the community to deal with. 'HL2 prequel where you play as Alyx' is a perfectly naturally succession from Epistle 3's ending.

Have you been in a coma or something? Gearbox has been irredeemably shitty for many years.

Attached: valve-flagship-vr-game.jpg (1096x731, 32K)

Epistle 3 is as good as its going to get. I was able to accept it as closure and move on. And I was one of the optimistic ones who still had hope for HL3 up until that point.

Bohemia interactive. They're already jumping on the retarded aliens bandwagon, might as well make a game that people actually want.

In a perfect world without EA, Respawn.

Sense this isn't a perfect world and EA exists

any of the First Person Shooter companies that Bethesda owns
Machine Games, Id, Arkane Studios. One of those three. They all make good shit.

Blue Shift's level design is terrific, just as good as the original.

OpFor's level design sucks. Well, maybe not sucks, but by HL's standard it's easily the worst of any game. New guns and enemies cannot make up for that.

I get why people disliked Blue Shift at the time because it seemed too short for the price tag, but in retrospect it's better.

Security guard is a far less interesting character, thus a far less interesting story to match. Not the real reason of course, but certainly my justification.

>ends with "whelp this was all futile, guess the aliens win. Oh, and gman wanted Alex the whole time, or something? Guess I'll die."
I refuse to accept this.

Aliens winning for once is ok. It's always some bullshit asspull of how humanity is able to defeat aliens millions of times more advanced than us.

It'd be like defeating any other technologically advanced for that you can't really attack on their turf. Just make taking you over, and keeping you policed, not worth the effort/too expensive to maintain. The problem with this is that the Combine seemingly has virtually infinite resources (which makes you wonder why they want Earth at all), so they can keep sending virtually infinite soldiers, etc. to police/capture Earth.

New Blood. They can do no wrong.

might be full of memes but I can live with that

DICE would probably do the best job.

>completely broken and with zero content since EA gave them 5 minutes to develop it and filled with the brim with microtransactions and "surprise mechanics"

Lootboxes are fun, though.

youtube.com/watch?v=1tvz0WVaQGg
>we'll never have this level of TECHNOLOGY ever again

t.EA executive

I'd be fine with either of these

>try out some mods for the first time
>go with some HL 1 mods like Invasion and They Hunger
>Invasion is ballbusting hard where a single enemy can drain your entire life if he shoots you for more than 2 seconds
>RPG grunts can take more than 2 secondary fire from the shotgun and they can one-hit kill you most of the time
I don't think I've seen a single alien or zombie in the mod, its all marines

Attached: 1509347230084.gif (287x270, 3.9M)

That revelation that the Combine were invincible way too kino

>which makes you wonder why they want Earth at all
It's another colony for them and they don't wanna lose it

The big thing about Earth was that Black Mesa developed LOCAL teleportation technology. All the Combine ever had was parallel universe tunneling. Combine had advanced so far that any kind of creativity or innovation was beyond them, and thus they resorted to stealing technology from everywhere and anywhere. In addition, they sucked Earth dry for its resources and to weaponize biological species.

Came to post this. Arkane reminds me a lot of peak Valve.

Which is the way Laidlaw wanted it to be. He himself said G-man's entire character is based around mystery. Revealing his motives would kill it.
