Hey mister! I need some games inspired by 90s anime, and you better get to it!

Is Popful even a good game? Never got around to trying it out

phantasy star 4

It was not seen as good back in the day, but it's a cut above the what we call good these days.

Yes it's a neat action platformer/RPG hybrid, but it is extremely fucking hard, especially the Sega CD version. Makes Battletoads look like a joke.

It is a very serviceable action platformer. Play the Sega CD version if you want to get the best experience, the SNES version doesn't have the honestly good for its time voice acting.

I miss this era of dubbing. It's not exactly good or faithful but my god is it entertaining to listen too.

Yes

Back when localizers understood that accuracy of intent and tone is more important than accuracy of every individual word, and you didn't have millions of neckbearded zoomers whining on social media about it.

Keio Flying Squadron?

Never emulated Sega CD games. What is the best way to do it?

90s dubbing was so fucking bad

Look up 'El Viento'.

I dunno, I actually got to play the actual game. Never tried doing it myself either, but IIRC Kega Fusion has a Sega CD option.

Kega Fusion was the standard since the dawn of time, but Genesis Plus GX is the better choice on newer machines unless you want to emulate a 32X game.

GAW

Breath of Fire, Illusion of Gaia, and Alundra 1 comes to mind.

Genesis era Phantasy Star, ESPECIALLY 4. I just beat it for like what had to be the tenth or eleventh time in my life, I've been playing it yearly since I discovered it. I only ever had the original and 2 as a kid, and PSO on gamecube.

PSO basically goes full blown futuristic shit, but the Genesis era has that classic Star Wars of 'dudes in cloaks with swords and shields but also robots and literally fucking wizards'. I think the proper term is space fantasy, but this shit is just magic to me.

Dawn of Ys

I should mention that Phantasy Star 4 has the absolute giga chad in Wren, an eight foot tall motherfucker of an android who has no time for your fucking shit and will blow your head off with his goddamn shotgun of death that artwork shows he has to bolt himself into the ground like a god damn howitzer just to fire.

This fucker has no time for bullshit and if you level him up enough he starts gaining stat in mental and magic.

Let me repeat that.

A fucking robot gets goddamn magic points. Can't use them, but he'll get them.

Don't fuck with Wren. There's a reason they chose him of all fucking characters in Sega Heroes.

Yes, but the game's really different depending on the console.
I personally prefer the PC-Engine version.

The sequels to that game are horrendous.

One of the rare cases where the vidya adaption is better than the anime/manga source material

>Are you completely retarded!?
I miss the 90s. I'm glad they didn't go though with their original plan to reskin the game as a Sonic spinoff.
