I don't have the time for it anymore. WoW is not the sort of game that can just be played for an hour a day. The only way to truly enjoy WoW is to completely lose yourself to it. Hunter - Can tame (most) any beast in the wild, and make it your literal partner for PvP and PvE throughout your MMO life. You even feed it (and have to feed it things it likes) and it literally grows as it levels. How is that not good class design? I could do this for practically every class in WoW; for all its faults, they are not because its classes are boring, but rather, because the game itself is stale and unbalanced and slowly being pushed into a situation where everyone does the same thing. Of course, it's still better than FF14 gameplay wise despite that, but still.

In WoW, only one class could kite bosses properly; only one class could pickpocket; only one class could tranq shot; etc.

Ninja weaves mudra to do ninjutsu based on the combo and builds ninki for more moves.

Samurai has it's three resource it creates from it's moves and kenki which let's you combo your moves to be 50% more and builds better if you have your positional right.

Summoner literally had a 2 min rotation where you build up power to summon a demi-primal.

Black mage is about completely dumping your mana and then building it up again but also trying to stay in the burn phase as long as possible.

Here's good class design: a heightened amount of character expression possible in the class. Here's bad class design: a lowered amount of character expression possible in the class, done in efforts to keep the class in line with its "peers" (ie, the holy trinity FF14 assigns them to).

its not class fantasy. class fantasy is a theme, its an aesthetic, its a backstory for the class, its 'what method does this class use to perform its role'? black mages shoot fire out their ass. archers twing their little pea shooters. they both do dps. the fantasy is in whether you want to be a mage or an archer.
class design is the specific mechanics and numbers that allow a class to do its job. black mages blow through their mana in burn phases, archers use rapid combos and later on group buffs. they still both do damage, and for a fair game, they both have to do roughly the same amount in a given time frame.
viability is not just important for class design, its literally the GOAL of class design.
fluff abilities like pickpocket that have no measurable effect in parties and groups fall under class fantasy, as they have no function in furthering the goal of viability.

example: paladins can summon their mounts. other classes cant and have to buy them. this is a function of class fantasy, not class design.

your problem is that you are confusing class fantasy for class design.

You could do +4 regular missions with a competent group. All you really need is to deal with the first shot the pack of enemies throw at you and enough dps can clear all the small shit in seconds.
