I was holding out for a "pro" version but this will do just fine I don't have any friends that don't not already have a normal switch so the lack of detachable joy-cons doesn't really bother me as much
I'm a homoerotic videogame streamer so the lack of video out is a deal breaker.
Aiden Sullivan
I might trade mine in and get this. I play my Switch in handheld mode all the time, and I have this irrational fear that the joycons might break off one day, like a kitkat, so this should fix that.
Also, making it smaller just means its more comfy
Carson Lee
The actual problems with the joycons is the drift, though.
You're making yourself more vulerable to that by buying a switch with non-tradeable joycons.
Josiah Carter
Everyone says that, but I've been using mine since launch with no problems, and a lot of analog sticks/slide pads use the exact same tech with zero issues. I believe it, like most things, is a relatively minor manufacturing error that blossomed into a meme
Ian Morgan
I don’t understand all the press it’s getting or all the threads it’s generating here. It doesn’t do anything that the Vita didn’t do better before it and the Vita was unsuccessful. It doesn’t have an OLED screen like the Vita did either (before anybody else mind you).
It’s debatable if this thing will be more powerful than the Vita but Vita still has the advantage with the ability to play PSP and PS1 games. It’s a shame it’s no longer for sale. Would be interesting to see the two go head to head.
Jaxson Ortiz
Yes
Jason Powell
>It doesn’t do anything that the Vita didn’t do better Games >It’s debatable if this thing will be more powerful than the Vita Are you retarded?
Jace Perez
No, I already have a standard Switch. The revision would just be a downgrade.
Noah Campbell
It's no meme—you just got lucky. The meme was the dock scratching. That was a minor issue that blew up out of proportion. Joy-Con drift is in proportion. They're fucking horrible,
Caleb Martinez
I will wait to see the deals for the regular version on Black Friday or some x-mas sale
Isaac Jackson
I've been interested in a switch for a long time and been waiting for the pro version, but having seen this most of its negative problems don't seem to be an issue for me. I only play pc and have a ps4 aswell but rarely play it, mainly due to having to switch switch my pc screen. so I think I would play a switch in portable mode 90% of the time anyway. I'm definitely interested but I'll wait for another while in the hope of a pro version.
Angel Thomas
I have two sets of joy cons, so 4 in total and none have any problems. I think people with drifting are just dirty people so they got a bunch of shit inside the controller.
Landon Ward
Most of the games are indies, many of which the Vita also has. The other games Nintendo games, mostly ports of Wii U titles. I don’t see anything exceeding Killzone: Mercenary or Uncharted: Golden Abyss in graphic fidelity. The Vita is from 2012, yes, but this is a Nintendo console afterall. It’s based on an older chipset and in its mobile form, which this device is only capable of, it is severely downclocked. The Vita also has much of the PSP hardware built into it in addition to its own hardware. No game was ever made that took advantage of both simultaneously, but I imagine if it was successful we would have seen such titles. I stand by my comment.
Ian Carter
Mate the vita was not running any games at 1080p.
Elijah Diaz
Neither is the Switch undocked or the Switch Lite. It only has a 720p screen
William Watson
reminder 99% of games perform better in handheld mode and most games are sub 1080p even when docked.
the lite is the superior product, plus it has a real dpad
Christopher Russell
The vita ran at 544p
William Phillips
>mostly ports of Wii U titles Nope
Julian Lopez
For anybody interested in a Vita who might be reading this thread, Gamestop sells refurbished Vitas for $150. These are much better refurbs than in the past as they have had to raise their standards to keep up with the second hand market. This is $50 less than the Switch Lite and you can purchase it right now. This is a good price for a used Vita, especially if you can get one with an OLES screen. The Vita is the best way to play PSP and PS1 games; that’s a much larger library than the Switch will ever have. This isn’t a knock against the Switch.
>It’s based on an older chipset Tegra X1 came out less than a year before the Switch hit the shelves
Nicholas Sanchez
Go shill elsewhere
Levi Flores
Nah. I had two sets myself. First set was broken and drifting out of the box, before I ever played it. Right Joy-Con made an audible creaking sound whenever you pressed the thumbstick in, which made me afraid to play Breath of the Wild. Traded that set for new ones. They were fine for a time but started drifting recently.
Never had a problem with a Nintendo console before. I always laughed at people complaining about 3DS circle pads breaking. I'm very tidy and anally retentive about taking care of my handhelds. Switch build quality is just shit.
Juan Rogers
>I was holding out for a pro version >but this "lite" version will do just fine
They're the complete fucking opposite of each other dipshit. Begone you fucking shill.
Christopher Rivera
You're retarded
Ryder Peterson
I might skip the Switch altogether since the Pro model rumors were fake and don't feel like getting the lite or the original, oh well.
Xavier White
this
Ryan Kelly
Most Switch games run at lower resolutions than that in undocked mode
Zelda BOTW, MK8, Hyrule Warriors, Bayonetta 2, Splatoon, Smash, Mario Maker, NSMBU, Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. I’m sure I’m missing some but those also happen to be the consoles most popular games... all Wii U ports. Don’t bother arguing about Splatoon 2 or Smash Ultimate being numbered sequels. They are 95% Wii U ports. That Mario Tennis game too. I’m sure more are on the way.
Jordan Torres
Cherry picked screenshot
How is suggesting readers look into purchasing a better alternative right now “shilling”??
Two years
Kayden Garcia
>tfw you're so irrelevant you can't even make your own thread
Grayson Rivera
Oh so you are one of those shitposters who thinks sequels are ports.
Easton Cook
What's the appeal of Mario Maker isn't it just like a romhack filled with levels from SM II & III?
Colton Turner
It’s not debatable that the Switch has more compute power than the Vita. The Vita is using a 5 year old embedded chip. It is much weaker than the Switch’s Tegra Tegra. It runs at a lower frequency and has much less memory. These are more or less valid metrics to compare the two since the Vita’s CPU is based on ARMv7 and the Switch’s X1 is ARMv8. Vita games look good because of the higher quality screen and higher pixel density. The Switch’s display is trash in comparison to the Vita’s OLED display. I really wish they would have given the Lite a better screen.
Xavier Rivera
>Cherry-picked It's from Sony's own publicity stills of the game
Aiden Miller
>Two years So it's a newer chipset. Thanks for conceding
Noah Foster
Yet you keep replying to me. I think the Vita is a better console than the Switch and if others gave it a chance they would agree. I bought a Switch for Zelda, couldn’t get into it.
Prove that they’re sequels and not 95% recycled from the previous game. I guarantee you that even Mario Odyssey was once in development for Wii U and also a Wii U port
Jace Rodriguez
I had a shita, you're objectively wrong
Owen Roberts
Yes since it is cheap and it will be hacked eventually. Also I will only be playing 4 games since I have ps4 and pc and I want to spend as least as possible.
Luis Rodriguez
Create and upload custom levels and play other people's levels. 100 new levels in story mode
Gabriel Rodriguez
thank you for having a brain meanwhile youtubers buying up the whole stock even though they already have the standard one/complaining about this revision
Connor Hughes
That’s your opinion. Specs between different architectures are not comparable. Still looks better than most Switch games undocked It’s a Nintendo console. Nintendo has a philosophy to use mature older technology. It’s occasionally worked for them, but I prefer raw tech. How’s that OLED screen on the Switch?
Ryder Garcia
>Prove that they’re sequels and not 95% recycled from the previous game >the previous game You made my argument for me
Gavin Thompson
Just buy the normal version bro. The Lite is simply a downgrade and not even much cheaper than the regular one
Michael James
yep, the $200 price mark is exactly what i needed as an excuse to buy it. i would feel like an idiot paying $300 for that gimmicky shit. hopefully it gets hacked with a simple cart too. dslite hacking days were the best.
Nolan Smith
No, and no one should. Most gamea look and run like shit on the Switch, and portable mode is often significantly worse
Nicholas Price
>but I prefer raw tech No you don't because you are shilling a fucking vita
Christian Hall
nigga it's literally the same tech
Nathaniel Brooks
I'll probably get one when animal crossing drops and give my old one to someone so they can play with me online
Blake Morgan
Stop using the term objectively when you’re being subjective Circular logic. You NPCs are brainless. I’m out of here.
If anybody is actually reading this post, please keep an open mind and give the Vita a try. They’re only $150 user or less which is $50 than a Switch Lite. You can buy one today and have access to a better library of games than any of the recent AAA multiplayer garbage consoles can claim. Again it has native PSP hardware and plays the entire library of PSP games with enhanced filtering. It also natively plays PS1 games and is the best way to play PA1 games.
Matthew Moore
I played that shitty game and it looks as bad as in that pic. Fuck off.
>Circular logic. You NPCs are brainless. I’m out of here Buh-buy sweetie
Tyler Bennett
stfu nigger i’m clean as fuck and my left joycon is drifting
Nolan Thompson
I'm gonna buy it so I can play games online, then hack the old one without caring about losing the one online game I play
Colton Ward
might get it as a strictly secondary switch so even if it gets stolen or broken i won't be having issues with my account
Cooper Gonzalez
Wanted to get a switch lite for digimon survive and pokemon
But pokemon turned out to be shit and survive is delayed to 2020
John Green
I’ll buy one when we will get a release date for SMT V
Christian Peterson
Get a load of this guy
James Peterson
>That’s your opinion No it's not. >Specs between different architectures are not comparable. Yes it is. Baselines exist. Standardizations exist. Gigahertz are gigahertz no matter what continent you're from. You're an idiot.
Carter Garcia
the vita is dead and some models are even more expensive than the switch lite despite having a lower resolution screen and worse specs
Dylan Howard
That was just the resolution of the screen. A lot of games failed to hit even that, Uncharted on Vita ran at something like 720x400.
Jace Flores
>can connect pro controller >no kickstand I can see the no dock thing but why even put in bluetooth support without a fucking kickstand?
Samuel Nguyen
The real reason is that morons put them loose in their pockets where they get jostled around and get full of lint.
Parker Foster
As soon as it gets hacked, sure. This is going to be the new psp
Easton Wilson
Mario tennis is where you’re wrong. But you don’t actually do research so I’m not surprised. Also most vita games failed to hit the screens native resolution too, cherrypicker.
Kevin Walker
>I bet mario odyssey is a wii u port too! You’re lookin’ real dumb right about now.
David Nguyen
If OLED is so great, why did the slim ditch it? And don’t even say to cut costs. It was the same fucking price.
Gabriel Ortiz
I own a Vita and vastly prefer my Switch.
Hunter Sanders
>buy DQ Builders 2 >decide to go online for a bit >surprisingly everyone is on that fucking Nintendo App >might as well log into see who I am playing with >everyone I've played with sounds like they haven't hit puberty yet W-what is the demographics that this game caters to?
James Wright
The Go m8 the go was the most amazing thing at launch
Zachary Bell
is the pro version even a thing?
Hudson Gutierrez
Does it even have any good games to play it on? Might drop $199 after it gets cracked but there's no way I'm paying 40 euro for a game as a 3rd worlder, Nintendo needs to introduce regional pricing.
Landon Sanders
“No.” ;)
Carson Green
Lmao the mental gymnastics here
>posts ugly screenshot Psh anyone can cherrypick an ugly screenshot >turns out it's a marketing screenshot Actually it looks good.
John Ortiz
Then everyone would just import from hicksville where it’s cheaper.
Robert King
I would if it were as easy as using my current switch docked at all times and use the lite one on the go but having them share the same game files, sadly I know this won't be a thing.
Owen Kelly
I'm thinking I might go with the regular Switch revision over the Lite. It has modest improvements but they should still be good enough for stuff like the dynamic res games and keeping framerates in certain games regular.
Bentley Price
What about eShop purchases? Aren't all games also available there?
Colton Diaz
>I was holding out for the pro but I'll settle for the complete opposite
Isaiah Russell
>2019 >720p no, not now, not tomorrow, never.
Isaac Roberts
Where are pre orders?
Xavier Reyes
It would work for most games. Cloud saves are a thing and you’re allowed 2 devices on your account.
it it had a hdmi out it would be 10/10 best switch possible, as it is 7/10 ok
Parker Martin
720p Is fine for this screen. It’s 267ppi (Normal Switch is 237ppi). Apple markets iPad Pros and 12” MacBooks with Retina displays with lower PPIs. Switch Lite will look even better than Switch. A 1080p screen is overkill here, especially when most games can’t even render at that. Same is true with most phones, pure overkill. We watched 35mm release prints for nearly a century until digital replaced them. Despite the high res on a 35mm negative, release prints were fourth and fifth generation copies with less than 720p of resolution. Not much less but less still
Joshua Barnes
nintendo knows they have virtually ZERO chances if they dare go against scarlet and ps5, they will never get ports of games for that gen so instead they decide to optimize their hybrid to be fully portable and dominate the only market that has no competition what so ever beyond silly phone f2p trash, it's beyond genius especially now that sony has flat out abandoned handheld gaming
standard apus are stagnating while mobile chipsets are thriving, in the future nintendo will develop only handheld consoles that can change to the shape of a phone, the nintendo online service will also provide phone lines and they will become the biggest gaming company on the planet, mark my fukken words
Parker Foster
why the FUCK would you want a 1080p screen when she switch cannot even render at that resolution in handheld mode? you stupid zoomer fuck SMALL NUMBER BAD is all you can think?
Thomas Hill
No. I never use docked mode or multiplayer, but I've had one set of controllers go bad on me so I don't trust non-detachable ones. Additionally, I prefer having access to all the games, rather than a whitelisted subset. The only thing that could get me to buy one is improved performance, battery life isn't enough.
That said, once the Lite is out I might buy a second vanilla Switch from a pawn shop for cheap and use that one for CFW.
Owen Walker
Don't forget the switch has become a haven for indies & hidden gems that get buried by the PS4's dude "last of us is awesome" graphics are everything mindset
meanwhile the switch's library actually has games that are just pure fun to pick up & play no matter how it looks
Jose Stewart
What's the recommended games list for this? I'm pretty sure the Yea Forums recommended wiki is significantly outdated.
Christian Morales
Yeah if you could dock it I'd finally take the switch pill. But as it stands right now I think I'm going to continue to hold off until some future revision. I don't get why they deliberately or making it so it doesn't have a dock. Is the cooling in the switch lite not designed well enough to handle the gpu at it's higher docked clock or something?
Adrian Phillips
>no docking >no removable joycons so, it would be accurate to say that you cannot switch between display and controller types ergo, it would be foolish to call it a "switch" bravo, nintendo
Well, from stories of people trying to hack the switch for it to work without the dock it seems that nintendo have some arcane shit so they can sell the proprietary hardware...so I think there isn't any technical problem and nintendo just want to fuck with those who buy it
Levi Diaz
I'm buying mine for this reason, but on release so itl be first model, plus the lowest firmware possible.
Matthew Stewart
Which homoerotic videogames do you stream on Switch?
Michael Barnes
I'm thinking about getting one to take with me. I recently found out that you can link one Nintendo account and all its digital games to 2 Switches, so I'm tempted by that because the Lite seems more nicely portable.
Jason Martin
>ergo, it would be foolish to call it a "switch" No, because it plays Switch games and calling it anything else would confuse normies and parents who don't follow game news closely. I actually know some people who thought the 2DS was a new console that didn't play 3DS games just because it was named differently.
Levi Ross
Unless they roll out something that looks really nice like a modern poptart, no. It’d just be a novelty for me since I use the existing Switch’s feature set fairly extensively.
Mason Long
the lite doesn't look that mutch sturdy than the OG model, the sticks are the same shitty sticks that become loose if you aren't a manlet that never lifts
Jack Scott
But would it be seamless and automatic kinda how Steam and iOS do it? Plus I'm assuming games like Pokemon and Splatoon 2 are out of the question?
Jack Hall
bowser said they are working on something to make this possible so you don't have to flip flop
Owen Gonzalez
Source on that?
Noah Edwards
Yes, but only because Miku. Better to play on a handheld with a headphone jack than a laggy TV.
Tyler Butler
Will the light version have a jack,it was kinda hard to tell from the reveal trailer
Christian Jones
Yes, it will.
Parker Butler
you're either a severe poorfaggot or a legitimate retard to buy a console with LESS features than the existing version.
Carter Phillips
it's going to be 279.99 here in Canada, combine that with 79.99 for zelda, and 89.99 for joycons, I can safely say Nintendo can go fuck itself this generation. Also, BOTW still being 79.99 with the new Link's Awakening remake being 79.99 feels wierd as fuck, I get they never go on sale, but the idea that they don't go down in price is such a big fuck you to the consumer, it's crazy.
Then perhaps they shouldn't market dogshit like this as a 'console' but rather a handheld.
Its unfortunate that the majority of devs haven't become enlightened yet and decided to release games on different platforms but when they do its over for nintendo. The pokemon company is making these moves already, phones are more powerful than this dogshit """console""".
Nolan Hill
Going to wait for teardowns to see if the battery life bump is from an SoC change, a bigger battery being in there or something else. Also if they use a slightly revised SoC if it has a slight bump up in clock speeds.
Jeremiah Flores
>Then perhaps they shouldn't market dogshit like this as a 'console' but rather a handheld. But the Switch Lite IS being marketed as a handheld.
Jace Gutierrez
If you have a decent pc just play it on cemu, especially if thats the only game you want to buy a switch for. Ofc buy an offical wiiu copy to dump the files for emulation user ;^)
Blake James
Nope not really. Stocks went up because a budget version of the console was introduced with fewer features BUT the same games AND better battery life.
If you think the docking station being the only way to play it on tv is going to be final then you're wrong. You can almost guarantee yourself that the thing can be used on tv in the future and then its just a regular ol switch with no joypads.
Leo Davis
I haven't decided. I made the decision that, if they released a scaled down version of the Switch that didn't go into handheld mode and was just a console, and releases it for like $100 cheaper, I would get one, if only for Breath of the Wild and the Nintendo Warriors games.
I dunno about this. Another portable console that's weaker? And only $100 cheaper? $200 is still a bit of investment for me. I'm conflicted.
Did anyone ever use the gimmicky psuedo 3D function on the 3DS though? I bought a 'New 2DS xl' myself as it's an upgrade over my OG launch 3DS and has no other practical changes in functionality or playability.
Not being able to play Switch games on my big screen seems like a massive downgrade just to save $100 on the console price.
Daniel Hall
...
Jack Hughes
it won't for at least another year user, just look for an original on offer up instead
Joseph Robinson
weird, when Switch launched and I said "when is nintendo making a non-handheld non-gimped console", apologists screeched that it's not a handheld because it had a dock
now, after waiting for a less crippled "Switch XL", instead we get.. a lite, with no dock. Almost like it's a handheld first and a home console last.
Dylan Turner
?
Jaxon Moore
Yea its inevitable really. How anyone would think that they wouldn't release that is just silly.
Julian Gomez
Why the hell would they make a point of saying it doesn't support video out at all if they're planning to patch it in the future? Wouldn't they be better off saying "We're working on a dock, please stay tuned"? Flip-flopping on the TV mode will just make people feel lied to.
Ayden Lee
So the later TV compatibility announcement in a future direct will be a hype generating event and create a second wave of sales
Thomas Scott
by that logic the nintendo switch runs at 720p at all times
Daniel Nguyen
whatever comes after the switch will be the peak of handheld and hybrid console gaming, to be sure.
Lucas Powell
posts like these are so funny, sales will determine whether naming it "switch lite" was an advertising mistake and not your pedantic nitpicking.
Gavin Bell
it is sturdier according to the people who played it due to not having the flex of the original switch caused by the joycons.
Charles Moore
>he sticks are the same shitty sticks that become loose if you aren't a manlet that never lifts
we don't know this.
Lucas Sullivan
i'm buying one of these. what's the best screen protector brand? best micro sd for the switch?
Lucas Garcia
CNET interview.
Juan Torres
I just hope playing smash doesn't damage the analog stick like it did to my old clamshell 3DS
gave out after about a month of playing it after release
even if they release a dock for the switch lite with an hdmi out, you would still have to buy another controller.
Gavin Wright
You will also have to buy a TV
Owen Baker
I think it'll be a last resort thing. Note the following, nintendo hasn't met the switch sales quota so they're making this budget device. Stocks have gone up and supposedly the quota is still high, increased in fact due to it being a whole new device. Now imagine peoples disinterest in the switch lite because you can't use it on your tv yet it is a console.
I personally think when the switch lite doesn't sell well and they HAVE to make that quota for the investors, they'll budge and sell the some sort of device to use the lite on your tv. Purely because interested people already have a switch and I don't think there are many more that want to play the switch games so bad they'll play it on a handheld. I think the demand for the usage of a tv is trivial but then it'd just be another Wii U.
Wyatt Young
it's releasing with zelda and pokemon, it will sell extremely well. you guys never learn.
Angel Adams
>ppl
Back to plebbit with you
Brayden Turner
will sword & shield even have any local multiplayer?
John Morales
>Screen protector AmFilm. Not sure if they'll make a Switch Lite screen protector but their normal Switch one was popular so I assume so
>Best microSD Any of them as long as they're not the Nintendo-branded ones (very overpriced). Sandisk and Samsung work fine.
Josiah Young
>it will sell extremely well Your inability to read is saddening, the point is that the switch didn't meet the investors quota and demands and now that most interested people already have a switch, this one will sell even worse.
Not only that, the new zelda is still in development and the lite is releasing in september this year. Pokemon will come a month later.
