It's got pretty good gameplay for a Warriors game thanks to the mechanics adapted from Fire Emblem, but I found the Fire Emblem fanservice in it terribly disappointed and lopsided. Play it more for the Dynasty Warriors part if you have to.

In Awakening at least there's the excuse that Chrom's Shepards are the nation's elite fighting force, so they're all important enough to Ylisse to be worth marrying. For example, Sumia's parents probably wouldn't mind if she married within them. Fates is mostly retainers/randos, and the royalty can obviously fuck whoever they want

Adding to this post we saw other character's support screen and none of them have S rank. However if isn't bullshit the next set of supports might have it. Though that begs the question of what the S or the Arrows on some the A support on the pre-timeskip supports mean.

If you have a character as one of the mage classes, they can use any weapon or magic.
But melee-oriented classes like Knights can't use magic for the most part, there are no "magic knight" classes until late in the game

The house leaders plus their main retainer can't be recruited, so if you want to marry Edelgard you'll have to pick her house. From what the reviewers have said, you can't make other characters marry each other, but they may change after the timeskip they haven't reached. Romance is built built by building support with someone, which means fighting next to them in battle, having tea time together, doing shit for them, etc. Get enough support points, you get the next level of support (C,B,A,S) which plays out a skit/conversation that demonstrates your bond growing. S rank is marriage

We don't know much but assuming the leaks aren't wrong on this part his family was murdered before the plot starts, and his retainer was part of the group that did it, him being forgived by Dimitri is why Deude's so loyal to him. Thanks to that Dimitri's not the most stable person (even Byleth notices that he has a shadow/darkness hidden inside him). Something happens at the end of the school year (probably has to do with the flame emperor since we see Dimitri breaking his mask) and he decides to kill everyone in order to protect the weak

I wish there was another TRPG that feels like FE5 in terms of atmosphere and the scale of the conflict. It feels kinda Braveheart and there's so many times when you're on the ropes against the absolute force your small band of freedom fighters is against and they have to do anything they can just to survive. So.many people talk about FE4 when they're talking about "scale" in Fire Emblem, but FE5 does it in the inverse way and it's awesome.

The engadget preview said it took them around 45 hours to complete one storyline, but they were rushing through it their first time. They expect a non-rushed playthrough to be about 60 hours, so each route will probably be lengthier than most FE games.

To be fair the animation and the model itself is actually totally fine. You can see how well they've gotten at animating and creating 3d models with awakening to fates to echoes to this. It's just that the combination of what I listed does a shitload for how things look in 3d. Shaders themselves are one of the biggest things sticking out there and is why a lot of JRPGs look like they're stuck with oversaturation/overstylized or have PS3 era looks because the tech for this style is barely even being developed.

Personally I think there’s a clear evolution between Sword of Seals, Blazing Sword and Sacred Stones, at least when it comes to the non recycled content. The sprites are more detailed and better animated for example.

A game where you play as a stand alone mercenary group where depending on what jobs you take the story can take different branching paths leading to different recuits/encounters and different maps and objectives. (Like a Seize map becoming a defend map if you chose the opposing faction)
Missions you take on early in the story can also affect later ones as well, such as helping out another group of mercenaries in an earlier mission can make them allied units instead of enemies in a later chapter.
Grinding Maps can also have varied objectives thanks to the mercenary structuring to prevent monotony.
