Starting as a Marauder or Gladiator will put you into the tank role, which is good for queues.
Conjurer will make you a healer, and Arcanist can become one at 30, and they have the best queues right now but can make solo content quite slow and boring.
Any DPS class won't really feel complete until you're a much higher level, and have the longest dungeon queues.

Of course, finding yourself a good guild can help circumvent queue times, provided they have people willing to help.

A very real case of "it gets good 50 hours in".

Not literally that many hours but all of 2.0 - 2.5 content is a really slow and tedious slog to get through. Not from grinding though, there's just so much text and fluff and filler to get through in the main scenario quests. They cut that shit out in Heavensward and the story gets a lot better there. The gameplay is pretty much the same. Story then takes a dive in Stormblood and then becomes great again in Shadowbringers.

Crystal datacenter is less populated, but only because Aether is locked down. Crystal is where people actually play the game beyond raiding and engage in RP, events, housing and all the normal people content.

The base game (A real reborn) is pretty boring until you get to around level 35-40. Once you get your abilities its not bad. Then, once you finish ARR you're stuck in the post ARR patch stuff where they just added filler content for about 80 quests or so.

This is the most boring part of the entire game.
Good news is right after that you reach heavensward which is both where the dungeons/art/gameplay/story become really really good.

Tanking is either the hardest or easiest role depending on what kind of person you are.
If you don't mind leading the dungeon or positioning the boss and putting your health pool in the hands of a healer you don't know, it's fun.

Once you finish the Level 50 MSQ it goes into a bit of a lull as it begins setting up events for the later expansions, but the final quests before the Heavensward story really pick up.

25-35 minutes depending on DPS, but you shave 7 minutes off a good chunk of dungeons by going fast

It isn't required, no, but it's a nice option to have. Spares you the usual MMO headache of making a fuckton of alts.

Play DPS for the full queue experience.

You can be one or many, you get no benefit out of doing either one.

you used to be forced to level a 2nd job to 15 as hold over from 1.0 but they abolished that years ago.

Always double check your have tank stance turned on at the start of a dungeon. Nothing gets up my ass more than the tank running off without it turned on and not noticing until the healer's already dead.
Turn enemies away from the party and don't move around unless you're dodging an AoE, melee DPS have positional attacks that greatly increase the damage they do.

Next, all of the jobs are useful to some degree; there isn't shit where certain jobs do 100% more DPS than other DPS job. It depends on what you want. Healers have a really easy time getting into dungeons at the moment because a new tank and a dps was added and healers were kind of left in the dust and they were kind of dumbed down to not having a DPS rotation which made a lot of people choose a different role. Tanks usually had instant queues in the past but recently it's been Healers>DPS>Tanks for most shit. Low level dungeons are gradually turning into Healers>Tanks>DPS again. Tanks and Healers don't have complex DPS rotations. You just manage your cooldowns properly and don't do dumb shit. DPS have more variety in playstyle since the tanks and healers have been made more similar. Good DPS that can actually do damage are very valuable. The game has a shitton of garbage DPS that just make content slow or impossible. Everyone wants to play DPS but almost no one seems to be good at it. DPS have an easy time getting into the 24man roulettes and the 8man roulettes.

Communicate with the party that you're new to the game so you're going to be doing small pulls. When you start having to redo dungeons in the duty roulette try to go for larger pulls. Small pulls are pretty boring for healers and everyone prefers to go fast. However, if you're doing large pulls (running until you hit a wall that won't let you cross until you kill the shit you pulled) ask your healer if they're okay with that first. Also, use your defensive cooldowns on trash. You don't really need them on dungeon bosses. This includes your invulnerability skill you get at around level 50. I usually use it immediately if most things are starting to attack after stun DRs go out. You want to be using stronger cooldowns earlier in the pull. It's wasted if you pop strong defensive cooldowns late

I'd assume Warriors want to be doing Crit always because they get 100% Direct Hit from their CD anyway. Not sure about Dark Knights

They already had them because their crystals were from their world and were what substantiated their summoned bodies for our world.

I did Innocence EX first, beat that shit and farmed it into submission before doing Titania EX. The hardest parts about the fights were hoping you had DPS that could actually beat the DPS checks. It's amazing when I farmed Titania and compared it to progression. Progression was multiple wipes from DPS being retarded and not being able to beat checks. Farm had the group beating the large adds in Titania with the gauge 75% full and Innocence dead well before the final tank swap

I suggest Marauder or Gladiator, going into Warrior and Paladin. You will get fast groups to clear story content, tanky and durable during your solo stuff, and the cutscenes are 10000% better as a tank. Doing my SCH/SMN story missions are just hilarious when I jump in the way and pull out a book. At least with my Greatsword I look pretty intimidating when I do that.

Either you haven't talked to the porter in that town, or the town you're trying to ride to is in another region and way too far away to ride. The game won't let you travel the entire continent on one ride.

No you retard, TWO one minute rides means just ride to the main town and then ride to the town you want. Your goal is clearly to play the game as little as possible. This method just gives you one extra interaction with the game when you have to click the chocobo porter at the main city to go back to the town you want. If you cared about the actual speed of getting to your destination you would just play the fucking game instead of accepting the automated rides.

If you want to take things slow, you also might want to consider that each of the classes you can pick at the start of the game, start in one of the three main cities each with their own unique areas and these greatly influence the early feel of the game.

Thaumaturge, Gladiator and Pugilist start in an area that consist of desert and steppes.

Conjurer, Archer and Lancer start in a forest area.

Arcanist and Marauder (if Rogue still isn't a starting class) start in an area that's mostly coastal with beaches and meadows.

There is nothing to do at endgame. The meat of the game is in its story content, everything else is grinding for dress up purposes.

No, there's a Level 70 boost but if you skip the story and certain raids you won't enjoy the story as much due to not being as invested.

The queues for DPS will always be rough. The queues for healers will always be short. The queues for tanks varies a bit. Where you are in the game matters very little thanks to the Roulette system tossing veterans into every level of content including beginning game stuff.

leve exp is shit, it's not worth the trouble when even fates are better. They're better used on crafting because there's no real good way of getting chunks of exp other than leves and collectibles.

It depends on if you want to craft/gather and if your leves will refill before you start. Leves are decent for battle classes, at least enough to get the challenge log bonus. There are better ways to level battle classes, but it’s absolute hell to level crafters/gatherers without leves
