Has there ever been a good representation of video games in other media? Aside from that one Adam Sandler movie with SOTC, I’ve never seen an instance where the portrayal of games doesn’t feel like it was written by ignorant boomers.

I think it was NCIS, but somehow this killer who was also a master hacker was able to put all this incriminating evidence in the retail disk of Prince of Persia: The sands of time and the only way to,access the files was to get to level 12 of the game.

All the males are giving it a go but can't do it. The head of police (or whatever thr fuck they are called) notices in the shadows the one female detective they weren't taking seriously the entire episode air playing the game. He then puts her on the game and gets to level 12 flawlessly and out of nowhere this Windows XP folder comes up with all the files.

other than kidnapping the dev, they did nothing wrong. the entire episode was a pain to get through. only finished it bc i wanted to see how bad it was

maybe there are one or two instances, but shit gets fucked up in film because everything is forced to happen too quickly and only certain essential details are given any thought, and those calls will override anything else. even if someone knew how to right a videogame scene that sounded natural, it's likely to get uprooted in the production process. nobody cares if x y or z detail is wrong about actual law enforcement they're depicting, they're for sure not going to give a fuck about making a fake videogame look real. also it's impossible to overstate how aggressive law and order's filming schedule is.
