I've heard tons of praise for Higurashi, finally gave chapter 1 a chance and was pretty impressed by some of the psychological horror. It had a satisfying end that also set up a cool mystery.
What the fuck is up with chapter 2? The story just resets and it does all the same shit again but not as well? It's so disappointing.
Are the rest of the chapters worth the time?

There is an overarching story. Right now you are in the "questions" part, which is the first half of Higurashi. It will all make sense when you get to the second half, the "answers" part.
But yes, the timeline "resets", and the second half is all about fixing this.
All the chapters are interconnected but this is not explained until later
Also there are no aliens in the story.
The game resetting is part of the story. Higurashi is not all that good, though.

I'm midway through chapter 6 and am absolutely enthralled. Definitely worth playing through.
My problem is that I bought the steam version and its apparently incomplete. A new chapter comes out next week then there's another chapter that'll probably come out next year. I thought this game was pretty old. Not sure if I should play a different version or just wait.

It's meant to be a very long build up for Meakashi (Ch. 5). Supposedly all the cool twists are worth the 20 hours you waste on Watagashi. But I dunno, you literally learn jack shit in Watagashi. I wish I skipped it back then. It's so repetitive and full of padding.
