Evangelion of vidya
Xenogears by the looks of it.
One of the best JRPGs
This is your soundtrack for tonight, say something nice about it.
Game was pretty unique, beautiful and interesting
A shame that there won't be another one like it
yes
now go read perfect works to realize that we are all brainlets and that it was /toodeepforus/
This but unsarcastically
Plus Giant Robo is in it too.
Maybe one of the most ambitious, for sure. I don't know if I'd call it the best because game balance felt a little bit too screwed for me to actually enjoy the battles themselves by the end
It has 6 (six) sequels.
An unfinished mess that could have been much better.
A really wild ride. If only gameplay was better and Takahashi was better with the budget back in the day. Seriously, I wouldn't care if some disc 1 filler parts became VN sections or just cut entirely in exchange to play complete versions of some disc 2 parts.
An unfinished game that reinforces that sewer levels are indeed the worst fucking thing in vidya, and that you can indeed still release a full priced game even if you have no budget simply by turning your game into a visual novel halfway through.
I always found it to be novely unfinished. Where other games would just give up or cut it Xenogears puts everything it can in and creates a one of a kind trip.
It has a great setting it wants to tell you about and it wears its flaws on its sleeves. That is the strength of the game, if not all the xeno games.
>I don't know if I'd call it the best
That's why I wrote one of the best. I love it, but it's flawed.
if shinji grew a pair
and if auska wasnt a bitch
Xenogears I'm assuming? Kudos for suffering through the impossible slow scrolling text boxes.
A game where Krelian did nothing wrong.
Xenogears is the only game in the series I just couldn't play. But then, again, for me Xenosaga 2 is the best game in (that) trilogy, so I guess I'm the weird one.
Only 3 Xenosaga games were made. Unless you're also including Xenoblade, but I hope you're not retarded enough to associate waifu mobage trash with Xenogears/Saga
Didn't a lot get cut still from Xenogears? For instance Ricardo was supposed to be a lot more relevant.
Sorry user, it's way too late and I'm blind
It was grating as hell to deal with that.
>Elly literally tells Fei she understood everything once she "became one" with Krellian
It's a shame the franchise died after Xenosaga 3. Would've been nice for them to finish all of the saga games.
Saga, Blade and X are all the continuing adventures of -Zohar- throughout the multiverse. You don't have like it, but they are all Xeno games through and through.
Xenogears has a pretty boring combat system and the overall gameplay is just ok at best. Xenosaga ep2 has a broken gameplay with a pretty bad tutorial but if you actually manage to understand it, is pretty fun to fuck around with it. The main issues with the game is that is pretty short, rehashes one level immediately after you finish it and at the start, the new artstyle clashes with the old outfits making the characters horrible to look at.
an alright game

I still dont get some of the stuff happening in this cutscene.
if Deus takes control of the ship does it somehow kill crewmen? The engine room was either abandoned or it somehow killed the crew inside. It's only shown shooting down escape pods with the ships turrets so I can only guess it could only kill the colonists as they were trying to escape and not while they were on the ship.
No worries user, sleep well.
I can't imagine a single build of the game where Ricardo would ever be relevant. I don't doubt they probably had a few more scenes for when they return to Kislev in disc 2 but he would never be relevant.
What about when you see the hull getting burst open and cables waving around like tentacles? It clearly can do things more than just manipulate the ship's systems
Presumably it had more ability to kill people in the engine room. Like maybe it irradiated the fuck out of everyone. Also it obviously had only partial control over the ship, since it didn't stop the captain from destroying it.
It assumed control of the ship but it was physically inside the ship too (remember you fight Deus in the wreckage the first time). It probably ate the crewmen.
Random encounter filled piece of shit game.
That's a really cool-looking ship
checks out since it's a 6/10 game
yeah phrased it in a meme way but i was actually serious, perfect works explains everything really well, especially everyone's motives and pasts
>Big Joe is not a party member
>if Deus takes control of the ship does it somehow kill crewmen?
It killed the crewmen per its original programming to kill whatever threatened it.
>It's only shown shooting down escape pods with the ships turrets so I can only guess it could only kill the colonists as they were trying to escape and not while they were on the ship.
It shot down the escape pods since the colonists were made up of people from the ship and the survivors from Deus previous test run, the latter being Deus targets.
Big Joe's backstory is fucking ridiculous
What was his backstory again? Isn't he like a billion years old or some shit?
he was a pro wrestler in the zeboim era who was cryogenically frozen and survived nuclear holocaust to come ashore with his memories gone
and I believe after that he just kind of traveled the world being dozens of different things, legends being told of different heroes that all refer to Joe
the best passing through
nostalgia goggles: the game. Legend of dragoon is unremarkable
nice opinion, yet wrong
An unfinished game.
It's still funny to me that such a blatantly rushed an unfinished game with so many holes still manages to be better than about 98% of the games I've played.
there are no holes, at least in the story
>blatantly rushed an unfinished game with so many holes still manages to be better
isn't this exactly what happenes every time? There's not a single RPG out there considered a classic or a masterpiece that isn't also suposed to be unfinished.
CT
How long is Gears? I've heard it takes around 60 hours?
I'm about 11 hours in and about to go down to the sewers in the Kislev capital.
Crazy how accurate that edit is.
60 is right
>11 hours for sewers
you seem to be going a bit faster than normal, maybe you can do it before 60
Maybe if the 2nd disk wasn't shit
>he's about to enter the sewers
Oh no.
Sewers suck but nothing beats Babel Tower when it comes to bullshit
>platforming that demands precision in fucking xenogears
>you can jump and get a random encounter mid-air which, upon returning to the map, removes all momentum you had causing you to fall back down to the bottom of the tower
are we having fun yet
I liked Disc 2.
a game from a time where games were still made to be good rather than to pander to the lowest common denominator
Yeah I didn't mean plot holes, just game holes. Entire chunks of the game that just don't exist and are narrated instead.
One of the things I respect the most about this game and its developers is that they knew story was the key here, they preferred to leave the entire second half of the gameplay unfinished and before leaving a story with no ending.
I mean, realistically speaking, all games are unfinished, the developers just release them when they run out of time or money. There is always cut content, features, mechanics, characters, sub-plots or tons of polish to do that is never finished because of constraints (aside from cut content that just isn't that good). This game is just one of the most extreme examples that still manages to be a masterpiece.
Games are never finished user
Doth thou desire power?
>zoomers and their rushing of games
literally cancer
Disc 2's low quality is greatly exaggerated. I figured there wouldn't have even been an overworld but there was. There was even a few dungeons with puzzles.
SHUT UP VALIMAR
No, fuck off. I goddamn hate Disc 2 as how everything reduced into a Powerpoint slideshow presentation.
I liked Xenosaga 2
One of the greatest games with the greatest story
Ackshually it's the Turn A Gundam of vidya

Chu-Chu died for your sins.
Good thing there is save state on emulator
Damn, Elly with glasses is perfect.
Rampant mediocrity that REALLY needed to be streamlined. There's entire 3 hour long sections in the first disc that could have been cut
I fucking loathe the combat in this game.
She is perfect no matter what
The only good game in the Xeno franchise. Too bad it spawned a million shitty spin-offs and sequels, it's sad that Xenoblade chronicles trash is technically part of the same series
This game is pretty crap. This is from a guy that played it at 15 and again at 27, both playthroughs were meh as fuck. Too much filler.
I love that this fucking shit is so retardedly immense that the tower you climb to get to Shevat is just a piece of it.
I challenge you to name a game with a better story that Xenogears
What the fuck was his problem?
Never forget lparchive.org
Terranigma
I had no idea you could have multiplayer robot battles in this game until that TBF lp
A lot of this is just nitpicking or taken out of context but I remember being baffled when they climbed Babel to contact Shevat despite Citan already having contact with Shevat. Was there ever a reason given why he couldnt just contact his wife again?
I enjoyed Terranigma a lot and definitely had some very good moments, but I never thought the story was that great. I often see it mentioned in Xenogears threads and makes me feel like maybe I missed the point or something. Similar thing happens with Vagrant Story, which is also great but I just don't see the story being that good.
Maybe to hide his connections to shevat, otherwise no idea. and really the only thing that kinda made me dislike Citan was him just letting Fei and Elly eat the Onions (even though I guess it's reasonable that they've probably eaten before since it's distributed to the surface), and his whole "betrayal" and even after the Ministry stopped watching he still shit talked him only to chat with id and then go "lol jk Fei, don't be so mad"
Saga Frontier 2
Glad I played this on emulator when I was older. I would have torn my head out without save states
Hammer was a knob
Literally Satan(ael)
You played through the greatest JRPG story of all time.
People complain about Disc 2 playing bad, but story has always been the most important aspect of a JRPG. The story-telling and plot twists in Disc 2 are genuinely insane.
Spoilering this shit so it doesn't derail the thread.
I mean, Xenoblade 2 literally does bring back plot points and parallels with Xenogears/Saga that were absent in Xenoblade 1 and X, which begs the question if Takahashi is trying to reboot Perfect Works.
Its nothing like Turn A apart from the digging up old robots thing
