Basically, the names of Lear's daughters, Cordelia, Regan and Goneril line up with with Lysithea von Cordelia, Claude von Riegan and Hilda Valentin Goneril, and Lysithea dying is supported by the fact that Regan and Goneril had Cordelia killed after she attempted to take back the realm. Also consider the fact that Hilda apparently cannot be scouted, hinting she's an important character for Golden Deers despite not being a retainer.

They sound pretty solid pretty much all around with a few standouts. It's a shame not everyone is there. The one issue I have is how Edelgard's new voice is a big step down from Christina Vee who voiced her in the reveal trailer. She also sounds a bit weaker than the rest even putting that aside.

If you look exclusively at graphics the maybe but everything else about this game looks like the most ambitious Fire Emblem's ever been in the past two decades. Gamefreak by comparison is just making another stale 3DS game that isn't contributing anything to the franchise at all aside from beginning a new tradition of cutting Pokemon each game.

Intelligent Systems may not be very graceful when it comes to the visuals, but they still clearly WANT to make a good impression on their return to a home console, as opposed to Gamefreak who would rather pretend they're still on the 3DS, despite charging full console game prices anyways.

Well, not "most of them, but 3 characters like that was still disappointing, specially after Hyrule Warriors made npcs with completely unique movesets playable for free.

It was pretty obvious there was something wrong though because the Hyrule Warriors DLC cost just as much as FEW's and only added 2 new characters (True Midna, Tingle, Young Link) and 2 weapons for existing characters (Epona, Rod of Dominion). FEW's DLC added 9 characters, with 4 being unique (Azura, Oboro, Linde, Olivia) and 5 clones.

It's a single game, $/€ 60. There's a $/€ 25 expansion pass containing more story among other things, but the story part releases in April 2020 so it's probably not going to be the game's real ending or anything like that. All routes are in the base game.

Fates had many script changes for the localization, but the least changed part were the actual plot points. They sometimes completely rewrote supports or heavily changed the personalities of some characters, but NEVER touched any main story plot points which is retarded since the main problem with Fates was the main story.

Regarding the origin Shin Kibayashi tome, IS claims they followed it. We know that Hinoka was just added by the developers to have a parity of siblings in each side, but for example, the throne plot from Conquest was all from the Shin Kibayashi script plot. In general, it's pretty clear Fates suffers from adhering to a plot that wasn't written with its specific features in mind. There's a huge divergence between the main story scenes and what you do elsewhere in the game, even in basic terms - like the characters complaining about traveling for too long or needing a place to rest in the main plot, while in the game you're supposed to have an Astral Realm castle accessible from anywhere.

They basically added the Astral Realm stuff to allow the castle set up in spite of the story leaving no space for it, but then didn't even bother actually tweaking the rest of the story to acknowledge it. Fates is FULL of stuff like that, more than any other FE games.

Well, I enjoy the mechanic of Skills costing Hp instead of durability. It has an element of risk/reward, which I enjoy.

I also dont want to give the impression that every skill is perfect or useful, but skills like Double Lion, Foundryant, and Hunter’s Volley are incredibly powerful (possibly broken) and fun to use.

Even early equipment skills, while not broken, are very useful for securing key kills thanks to usually getting extra hit in turn for sacrificing a potential double (miss).

And I think mages are most improved by this Hp for skills system, mostly due to each spell having a distinct trait that could be better than others depending on the situation AND factoring in WHO is using it (stats/equipment/what level obtained) and if they can even use a certain spell at all.

I obviously really appreciate 3 Houses choices too. Wasnt comparing SoV to it or other games. Im stating that i think SoV is a great game mechanically.

They also generally changed Effie's personality. Some people exaggerate the changes and other people deny the changes (aside from the voice style), but they did happen. Japanese Effie was technically polite and friendly, but she still could be really blunt and was often eating and exercising. American localization gave her a gruff voice, also made her generally talk in a more boisterous way, and often had her making unfunny "comedic" references to exercises or muscles where there was nothing in the original.

But, really, what annoys my the most about Fates' localization is that in spite of all the mess they did with the supports they didn't touch the freaking the main story plot points. The dialogue often even gets even kind of stiff and closer to the fan translation when you get to actual plot relevant stuff. For whatever reason they thought the supports were problematic and would hurt the game in the West, but didn't think there was any issue at all with the main plot.
