Is Stardew Valley actually good or is it just a meme game? It’s on sale and I’m thinking of getting it, but only if it has decent longevity.

Also wondering this (for switch)
If you like Harvest Moon then you should really like Stardew Valley. If you're not into building up your farm and growing stuff then it might not be for you.
Ymmv but I was bored 15 minutes in. Usually I like these kinds of games.
I didnt like it, better wait for Rune Factory 5.
pirate it before you buy it. its one of those games that isnt worth paying for because its pretty low quality all around
It's alright if you just take your time to do stuff from the farming and going into caves while giving gifts to everyone. Though you'll probably get bored once you realize the festivals aren't worth doing and your better off just planting and watering crops then sleeping until they're done since there's nothing else worth doing in town besides that.
It's pretty good, but has a lot of bizzarre design decisions. It feels like it was built without any real plan and shit is just kind of shoved together.
Also all the villagers stories are awful, and the game tries to make you feel bad at every corner.
It's literally just a shitty version of Harvest Moon with indie design and what not. The game itself looks nice, but I got bored after a few hours. All you do is plant seeds, upgrade your house, build relationships with people. It's not really even a game to me. It's more like a farmville if farmville had been made by an indie developer and added a splash of RPG elements into it.
It's fine if you just want something to play after a long day at work and don't want anything stressful or convoluted to play. You can just load up your farmer simulator and listen to the soothing music and be relaxed by all the pretty colors.
kinda wish you could zoom out 50% or even 100% more
also get a horse asap, took me 90 hours before i realized 30% movement speed is actually useful in this
(ive played games where even50% boosts dint really help)
A lot of negative feedback here, damn... I was kinda hoping it would be as charming as Terraria was
Don't get it on switch, I'd only recommend it on PC simply because mods add to the longevity of the game that matters much more then portability.
Anyone played Stardew and pic related game here?
Which one did you like more and why?
I found it charming and addicting. Try it out yourself.
Meme
If you're a farming/buidling autist, you'll get bored very quickly. There's not much to it once your production is going. Also animal production is inherently hamstrung because the dev got several death threats from animal rights activists.
Stardew for sure. Graveyard keeper is mostly busywork with limited if any real story. I endlessly repeated monotonous tasks that I never really felt involved with, whereas at least in Stardew you could argue that you have a more active roll in the design of your farm and what you do with your time. Graveyard Keeper feels bare bones and sterile, whereas Stardew feels like a harvest moon game with fleshed out mechanics. Neither are perfect, but I had considerably more fun with stardew than I did with Graveyard Keeper, and I can start over in stardew right now but that sounds super awful in Graveyard Keeper.
Worse than Terraria. Way worse.
mmm... They're actually pretty different.
Stardew is more heavily in the vein of harvest moon and ruin factory. Though the game is overall shit.
Graveyard Keeper has the foundation of being a good game, but has a dearth of actual content.
There are six characters with a real interaction, and all of them are mandatory to progress the story.
The chief prolonging factor to said interactions and story are that the characters are only available on one specific day a week.
it's boring as fuck, i got it on the sale because it seemed comfy but the controls are shit and it's boooooooooooooooring..
got a refund and bought Grim Dawn instead, best decision ever.
I liked it a lot, it's not the most deep game ever but it's a fun time sink.
it's okay but Rune Factory 4 is better and plays flawlessly on Citra.
Actually good.
I think the mechanics make it better than Harvest Moon.
I really like it. Try pirating first.
by time you upgrade to decent tools it starts to feel stale
Yes, it's very good. Even full price is cheap for the amount of hours you can put into it.
Didn't Graveyard Keeper have an area that flat out wiped you if you entered it?
I wanted to like this game but fuck it's ugly to look at and the fishing mechanic sucks.
Graveyard Keeper is the video game embodied form of tedium. Think Don't Starve but even more boring, repetitive and not fun. With Stardew Valley you actually feel sense of progression.
It's great in small doses. Try getting comfy just before going to sleep every night and play for only a day or two (25 minutes or so irl) Make it part of your nightly routine.
try rune factory 4 instead
I warmed up to the fishing. The problem is you need to level it up to make it doable.
all SDV needs is full blown RPG dungeon shit with combat, weapons and armor
which is all tied around farming
example
you need to grow cabbage to feed your cabbage armor or someshit
actually the farming should be tied around alchemy
and with alchemy, you need to craft potions and/or ingredients for epic/rare items
it's a chore simulator. I personally didn't enjoy it but I do like animal crossing and understand that If you have the patience it can actually feel pretty rewarding. Much like most people will say "if you like Harvest Moon games you'll like Stardew Valley".
When it comes to chore sims, I personally play Viscera Cleanup Detail when listening to podcasts, just something to put my brain on auto-pilot while I listen to whatever.
I put 50 hours into it and didn't 100% it. Still had a few things left to do before losing interest.
It's a nice time-waster, where you do a shitload of busy work as you slowly work towards a goal. I liked it for when I was watching something on the other monitor and I needed something I didn't need to pay full attention to.
But the character stories are fairly bland, despite the game wanting you to care about their lives. If you liked Harvest Moon, Rune Factory, or any of the other harvest clones you'll like it.
It's uglier than Dwarf Fortress so no
I couldn't get into it, despite being a fan of Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. The game is stuffed with content, but it just too rough around the edges. The town is a chore to navigate, combat in mines is terrible, the controls aren't great (though they did improve a bit after launch), and the visuals are all over the place with mixels/rixels, shitty lighting effects, and generic character sprites that often don't fit the portraits. At least the music was alright.
I got bored after 36 hours on Steam. I have it on Switch as well with 6 hours on it. Might go back to it someday but I'm in an FPS phase right now.
It just makes me crave rune factory. It's ugly, I don't like the characters, and the caves suck.
You gotta play with mods. But it's not a "spend bulk hours on it at once" type of game. It's a play for a short time in between other shit type. At least that's how it is for me.
If you're into resource management you'll probably like it. It shows that it was made by one guy, but on the other hand he did a damn good job for one guy. There could be a few more areas to explore, but maybe in the future. It's worth the price to buy it, but like said pirate it first to give it a whirl to make sure you will enjoy it. Just don't marry Sam because apparently that stupid wannabe rockstar is shooting blanks into my fertile womb god fucking dammit I knew I should've installed the Willy marriage mod. Maybe I'll go cheat on him with his dad.
