Kokonoe was my main, I also had fun playing Izanami, Es, Izayoi, and Susanoo.

Tekken can be hard to get into. I would recommend trying out Kazuya since his gameplan is rather simple, and he teaches you some Tekken exclusive concepts like wave dashing and the best electrics in the game.

When you get comfortable with Kaz, you can also check out Jin. He has similar options like the hellsweep and electrics so you will feel right at home, but you will find that his hellsweep is not as good, and his electrics are harder to pull off. However, his kicks (4, f4, b3, d4, db4) are simply incredible.

Leo is a very good pick for a beginner indeed.

but it's not fun to play him. his combos are all short and incredibly damaging. usually just confirm into rekka for full damage. there's nothing to practice with Leo, just fundamentals and If i'm just going to be doing fundamentals i'd rather play Samsho.

Thanks for advice. I began with akuma, but later switched to king. I tried learning to play with him but there was just too many moves and my play/training sessions with the game started become infrequent for it to really stick.

That's not exclusively a beginner character problem. Beginners always overuse overheads when starting out.

If someone's first character was Chipp, they could make all these mistakes despite him very beginner unfriendly. People recommend Characters like Sol and Ky because they have lower execution and straightforward game plans that are easier to grasp.

I've tried getting into this game a few times. Each time it starts to feel nothing but tedious after however many hundreds of consecutive landslide losses, and probably 20 times that much time spend doing drills in the various practice modes. As soon as the match starts, I forget any gameplan other than block, I drop everything I try to do more complex than S HS on the rare occasion I actually have the presence of mind to try and capitalize on stray hits, and essentially get double perfected over and over. I know that fighting games are hard but maybe I'm just extra retarded because I know most people see at least some improvement while I can't really tell if I've improved at all.

The key to winning battles consistently is having good coordination with your team mate. Of course that's obvious, but I haven't seen many people that play the game actually have good coordination. I've seen people do a Force Lane on an opponent, with their partner in the other lane, and EVERY time, their partner never goes in for a combo.
Another is approaching the enemy. Have one guy in the same lane as one of the opponent and distract them, then have your team mate sneak up on your opponent and do a lane attack.
Guilty Gear Isuka isn't a hard game to master. It's just that everyone that plays in a team are braindead.

XRD is ass. Tech buttons, YRC airdash, and permanent Johnny/Ky/Chipp/Elphelt meta have made it to where the only thing a guilty gear thread is good for is /e/ dumping. Game's stale as fuck.
