It makes sense on a sales perspective though. Switch pro wont be out for a year at least, so they need selling points for the current switch model. If it could dock literally nobody would buy the more profitable base switch.

The handful of ps4 ports and Xenoblade will yeah, not everything. BotW for example looks no different in handheld. Odyssey and Splatoon look slightly worse but it's not noticeable during gameplay.

The vast majority of Switch games look and run like shit. Portable mode is much more vulnerable to this without question.

Not really, no. The only thing I can think of that wouldn't be supported in handheld mode at all is that mode in Super Mario Party that requires multiple Switches with joycons removed to be laid flat on a table, which is just a gimmick mode anyway.

If you're talking about Smash in particular, either a Pro Controller or a wireless/Bluetooth GCN controller would be a must. I have never seen anyone play Smash Ultimate with the Joy-Cons.

I played mine in handheld mode 95% of the time anyways. Guess its a nice treat for people who haven't bought it yet but I don't really see why I would buy this one if I already have a switch.

Smash I don't see as an issue because if you've got several friends who play smash one probably owns the normal switch. Mario kart with casual friends and family would be the one issue potentially.
