The thing with Ryu Hayabusa is I feel like they'd save him for the retro rep for Smash 6 rather than DLC. I agree he's probably the biggest out of the last few possible NES/Famicom reps but I wouldn't really say it's on the same level as Castlevania or Megaman.

This would be fucking sick actually. I'd like her to be more of a summoner but I think that'd be too similar to MvC2.

Jill would be cool as an echo but Leon would represent the series as a whole way better and is arguably the fan favorite.

Not anymore, but I vividly remember, at least in my school and area, Ninja Gaiden was at least as popular as Castlevania when comparing the series. People really like the cutscenes, it was pretty novel. And as hard as they are, I always thought Castlevania 3 was harder than any of the NG games. I beat all 3 NGs back then but I never finished Castlevania 3 until much much later. So I bet plenty of people were able to beat at least the first NG, I mean the series survived for a reason.

I don't know if Ryu is that iconic. The original Ninja Gaiden is definitely a staple in the NES titles and the Xbox reboot is undeniably a classic, but they're pretty niche games and he's not had a chance to shine in a long time. I'd dig his inclusion but I don't see it. Doomguy is much more likely with the recent success of 2016 and the excitement for Eternal.
