I don't think they believe Banjo is something they need to be top. They added Banjo out of Fan service, after so many request, but I think that for them, characters like Joker and Hero are kind of a bigger deal, at least that's the way Nintendo, and mostly Nintendo of Japan sees it.

The last two may go for the same impact than Joker and Hero. Either a Capcom rep like Leon/Jill/Chris, Dante or Phoenix, Heiachi or Nightmare, Ryu Hayabusa, Terry/Mai/Athena/Kyo (I have problem picking a SNK rep)... they all would do just fine. Same for some of the favorite western picks, like Crash and Doom Guy.

Though, in all honestly, just the Capcom and Namco reps, alongside Crash, are guarantee to be well received globally on a big scale.

Dude, I am a Ridley fag, I can tell Sakurai's BS when I heard it. Heiachi was in two 2D fighter games before, and many crossovers, he can work fine, but Sakurai just wanted PacMan at the time, and didn't want to think to much about anything else.

He also stated he didn't knew how to make him work, same excuse as with Villager and Ridley. Lloid was the one he thought it would be kind of boring to add. In the same note, he did say that Heiachi on his eyes was the only Namco rep close to Pacman on legacy, while Lloid was a character he knew had fan demand. And again, this are Nintendo picks, and with Heiachi's cameos so far, Sakurai has little excuses to not add him this time.

Doomguy would be great but there's no real topping this now. He has no real uphill battle to inclusion like what was perceived for Ridley, K. Rool, and Banjo. Waluigi, Geno, and Isaac are the remaining longstanding never evers, and their stories are either not as interesting/prolific, or they themselves are not as interesting.

Waluigi would be the tenth Mario character, and would follow up Piranha Plant. Also, frankly, he's fucking lame which I know is part of why his fans like him. I know people hate it when characters like Ridley are described as just being memes, but Waluigi honestly fits that description. So many of his "fans" are the kind of people who pretended to like him for so long that they forgot it was ironic at one point. His inclusion is inevitable given the demand, and that will make a lot of people happy, but it's not nearly as earth shattering as the others. It's not even close to inclusions like even the most obvious of third party characters.

Geno is just about the dumbest longstanding fan request, especially among those that have actually been acknowledged. I won't lie though, the idea of such a stupid inclusion is absolutely amazing to me. Yeah I've got some attachment to SMPG but I'm fully willing to acknowledge Geno is completely bonkers. The character really is a nobody and while he's sort of the last realizable, notable request to have perceived major barriers to entry, the character himself isn't prolific with a legacy like the holy trinity.

Isaac's only barrier is the lack of franchise future. Even still, GS is just this fourth stringer Nintendo RPG behind FE, Pokémon, and Xenoblade. Also, those shitty writers never knew how to just let a game wrap up, and kept stringing us along from game to game, so fuck them. If he gets in through fan demand it won't even be close to the heights of the previous fan requests. We already know fan demand works and it got much more beloved characters in already.

Metal Slug would have zero difficulty adapting to Smash, we have shitloads of material for moves, stages, assists, spirits and a fucking baller soundtrack, and it adds SNK so Sakurai's autism of "getting every fucking japanese company in one game" is satiated. I'm also pretty sure that if they got in Sakurai would focus in the humour side to keep the franchise lighthearted, and that's good in my book.

The problem with Geno is that there's just bigger fish to fry. I don't get why people keep comparing Geno to K. Rool, Ridley and Banjo & Kazooie just because they've all been "highly requested". The first two are reoccuring villains and the latter are the main protagonists of their franchise. Geno on the other hand is just a supporting character who's really in just one game.

Smash rarely includes secondary characters with wholey unique movesets. When you remove all protagonists/mascots and any deriative/clone characters, it just boils down to

I always thought the Geno push during the Brawl days was people latching onto some kind of retro cred shit, like "ooh look at me I know about this obscure character from obscure game", but that can't be all it is still at this point, can it?

Geno is a good character from a good game that defined mario RPGs as a whole. I also think he's really fascinating, there's this level of mystery to him that really makes him stand out from any mario character, or nintendo character for that matter.

Geno is actually a meme. Maybe his support was mostly genuine from kids back in the melee days but now it's literally just because he's "that guy who will never get in smash". He's the next "never ever" so people have just latched onto him as a hype circlejerk thing. The actual character is laughably insignificant.

Oh, don't get me wrong; I like Geno and SMRPG just fine. I've just never been able to get my head around the fervor for getting a non-main character from a non-main game into what kinda doubles as a Nintendo Hall of Fame. It isn't just Geno, either; I feel exactly the same way about other one-or-two-offs like Fawful, Skull Kid, and even Midna. You're free to disagree, of course, but that's where I'm coming from. It's just that the Geno thing in particular got so damn big around the Brawl leadup that I couldn't help but raise an eyebrow at all the people who were suddenly super into SMRPG and Geno specifically.

They don't. If you don't recall, back before the game released they blew their load with all the hype announcements of Ridley, K.Rool, and Simon early and left Incineroar/Ken for the final one. I'm not one of those guys that was seething at the grinch thing, but they probably should've swapped K.Rool or Ridley with Ken/Incineroar.

At this point I want this because of the massive shitstorm it would cause, I don't even play the game anymore.
