Do you think Capcom will get their fighting games back on track?
They're doing extremely well on every other front, they brought back DMC, Monster Hunter is their most popular IP, Resident Evil is stronger than ever, is there hope for a good Street Fighter or a new versus game?
No. They won’t. For one reason and one reason only. A good competitive fighting game must be fun and have a brotherhood community before it can go esports. Both MVCI and SFV promised esports before the game was out, and both of those games were barebones shit. It’s obvious where they’re getting their money from, and it’s not sales, it’s esports investors.
Wyatt Lopez
I could go more in depth and talk about how the best fighting games have a “magic” quality about them and how trying to make a perfectly balanced esports friendly accessible game is what makes them feel so soulless and not fun, but that would take a long time to fully explain.
Noah Wilson
As long as Ono has no involvement then maybe
Dylan Hall
Other companies handle eSports just fine, Capcom goes about it all wrong. Tekken has managed to figure it out, Capcom just needs to release a fully finished/complete game that is engaging for casuals but doesn't forget that it's old audience and community is the reason it's still around today.
SFV will hopefully serve as a critical lesson to Capcom that a SF without any neutral game or footsies doesn't work.
Juan Flores
No. They keep outsourcing them and that only worked once with UMVC3.
Kevin Wilson
The very fact that you can only think of Capcom fighters as "Street Fighter" and "Versus" shows that they're stuck in a rut.
Oliver Nelson
If it were up to me I would bring back Darkstalkers, but I don't think modern Capcom is capable of doing it properly.
Justin Roberts
Why the fuck do you want Capcom to be good again? All these other companies and developers making fighting games and the only thing you do is sit around wishing for the capcom old days again? Not to mention, NOT TO MENTION the FGC still plays any and all classic fighting games you love like MvC2, Alpha 2, Third Strike, and CvS2.
So instead of going to your fucking local scene and playing the classics your ass is on Yea Forums wishing for the old capcom to return. Fucking kill yourself.
What else would they do? Darkstalkers is their only other 2D fighter IP and no fucking way they'll bring back a 3D fighter.
Logan Murphy
Rival Schools or a brand new IP for once.
Isaiah Young
I wasn't talking about those games retard. I specifically mention Street Fighter Alpha 2(and of course 3), Street Fighter Third Strike, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and Capcom vs SNK 2. All still get played at ever fucking major tournament today. Not to metion some of them got rereleases/HD editions and shit and you're still not playing them. Nice things already exist and instead of enjoying those you want "nicer" things from a company who isn't even close to old self. Kill yourself. I bet you don't even play fighting game period.
>Darkstalkers is their only other 2D fighter IP Cyberbots Star Gladiator Rival Schools Tech Romancer Red Earth
Leo Rogers
They should do a marvel without marvel just their characters.
Adam Ward
>all these other companies >Namco servicing superior limb based combat, aka juggling for clown college graduates >Arc Sys makes a new fighter every month then announces a new one making it hard to keep up with shit >Killer Instinct is on fucking Xbone >Mortal Kombat is some gacha lootbox shit now >Soul Calibur has tiddies
SamSho did just come out but out of all those listed only SC sounds decent
>Cyberbots I'll give you that one. Completely forgot about it. >Star Gladiator 3D >Rival Schools 3D >Tech Romancer 3D >Red Earth A weird boss rush game disguised as a fighter. Wouldn't mind a reboot that made it closer to a real fighter though.
Parker Martinez
You act like playing the same games over and over doesn't get stale after awhile. There's nothing wrong with wanting more growth in the community, but makes me realize the market is over saturated with fighters right now.
Connor Phillips
If you literally hate every single fighting game today then you never liked fighting games in general.
Ayden White
Capcom sold its soul to make good games in other genres again at the cost of fighting games. And I'm okay with that. Fuck. They don't even make them anymore unless you argue MvCI and even if you want to say the actual gameplay is good in it, everything else is just a turnoff to those who can't look past it.
Jaxson Harris
>You act like playing the same games over and over doesn't get stale after awhile. Is this guy serious? There's still tech being found in MvC2 today. You're obviously a filthy casual.
Their current philosophy and care about fighting games is absolutely horrible.
SFV and MvCI were both terribly unpolished games. All they cared about was making it esports by trying to make it casual friendly and then throwing money at the competitive scene and hoping it would stick. They didn't care about making a fun game, or a nice looking game, or even a game that played off people's love for SF/Marvel (Function vs function anyone?). All they clearly cared about was trying to get into the esports scene.
Nathaniel Jackson
Besides Resident Evil, Capcom is doing well in every other genre because they're embracing new ideas to a degree.
Fighting games are always the same shit, and all of their ace talent, even their battle director NEO G doesnt even work with Capcom anymore.
SFVI should take place after Third Strike. Satisfy autists (such as myself) about the story of SF (e.g. Resolve Ryu v. Akuma for instance and don't be pussies about it) Graphics and models should be top notch Traditional Arcade and a better more fleshed out story mode Unlockables that allow you to do broken/dumb/hilarious shit in specific non-competitive arenas. Allow comback mechanics again
Aiden Hughes
In their recent annual report they already announced they're working on a brand new eSports focused title for the next gen.
So no, there is no hope in another good fighter coming from them because they're repeating mistakes and not learning from them.
Bentley Diaz
>Graphics and models should be top notch wtf does top notch mean to you, give an example faggot
Brayden Phillips
Rival Schools has a tangential connection to Street Fighter and Itsuno wants to do it. Itsuno seems to be able to do whatever he wants right now, so as long as his current project (likely DD2) sells well I can see him crossing off Rival Schools 3 and completing his trifecta of sequels he wants to make before he retires (DMC5 & DD2 being the others).
Alternatively, if Capcom doesn't want an eSports 3D fighter so that they don't try to step on Namco's toes, then Itsuno could just make Power Stone 3. That's more of a party game so it has its own niche (although you'd definitely see side tourneys of it at FGC events I'd bet).
Henry Cruz
That's just Capcom shitting the bed. The other companies making fighters are also focusing more on the esport aspect yet people like their titles.
Christopher Powell
>Unlockables that allow you to do broken/dumb/hilarious shit in specific non-competitive arenas. No. MK11 shows how stupid this idea is. >Allow comback mechanics again No. Ultras were bad and VT is a decent enough system.
"esports" should mean good fucking online features and structure.
Easton Cruz
Fuck outta here with this weak back paddle. I play fighting games, old and new. I don't sit on my ass wishing for the "Old Capcom" to return. You're both filthy fucking casual and the biggest autist. You don't play fighting games period. You're hot garbage in everything you touch. You're better off being a Pro at shitposting on Yea Forums.
Andrew Anderson
Stop making 2.5D fighting games they're fucking ugly as sin. Or at least get a good art style going because christ ever since SF4 these games having looked awful visually.
Levi Moore
>getting a new Rival Schools or Power Stone before Darkstalkers is brought back
If Darkstalkers couldn't even come back those other IPs stand no chance, theyre far more niche in comparison
Ono was producer of their fighting games for a decade and he always tried to convince their executives to make a new Darkstalkers, just because Itsuno wants it doesn't mean it's going to happen
I can't answer that because the next SF should be next gen. But really I should say the artstyle of SFV sucks for most characters (Not ChunLi or Menat for example). From a technical standpoint Tekken beats the fuck out of SFV if we're comparing same gen fighters.
Kayden Jenkins
Sure. Itsuno is interested in trying a brand new take on the fighting game genre and Ono is no longer the head of the fighting game division. I can see them improving a lot, maybe not a new golden age but MVCI and SFV aren't hard to surpass.
Cooper Jones
Ok grandma
Bentley Sullivan
TvC and UMvC3 looked fine in 2.5D. SFV would've looked good too if the models were consistent.
Tekken has god awful animations and decent enough models.
Benjamin Phillips
Also the fucking MUSIC of the SF games need improvement the soundtrack of both IV and V are meh.
Blake Russell
Nothing wrong with 2.5d if you fucking do it properly.
Glad you accepted that you're a shitter and will always be a shitter at fighting games.
Connor Rogers
You can't apply the same tech Xrd uses to something like SF because their animation techniques are completely different. It works in ASW because of their limited animations.
Hunter Howard
I might sound crazy but I wanna see Capcom trying to make a new 3d fighting game with their own take and ideas on how to do such an idea instead of just doing a poor man's Soul Blade like with Star Gladiator.
Connor Howard
3D fighters are dead and replaced by arena fighters.
Levi Foster
Capcom Fighters lost their chance to reach stardom when SFxT tanked. That was the beginning of the decline and eSports has put them into a rut.
Every other company and developer greatly overshadows Capcom in fighting games now, they need one hell of a comeback at this point and I don't think they're going to take that financial risk. The amount of silence on SFV's season 4, besides cosmetics and stage updates speaks volumes.
One of those wouldn't be bad either considering the highly popular Gundam VS games by Namco are based on the older Gundam titles by Capcom. However Tekken was fighting for the number 1 spot alongside Extreme Versus in the Japanese arcades so I don't think trying to make a 3d fighter is a lost battle, specially with how they never became all that important in the west.
Itsuno has more respect in Capcom than Ono does. Ono got laughed at the entirety of SFIV's dev cycle until it sold well. He didn't have enough clout to push Darkstalkers into existence. It doesn't help that to do it right it would need extremely expensive animation; Demitri has been cut from games entirely because the team would rather not have him than half-ass Midnight Bliss. Jedah in Marvel Infinite looked, felt, and sounded like he was pulled out of Marvel 3, given the effort put into making him relative to most of the cast.
Itsuno has proven himself to be the #2 most important director in Capcom right now after the Monster Hunter guy. Itsuno himself said he went to the CEO and said he wants to make DMC5 & DD2 and was told to do whatever he wants. If Reuben is to be believed, Capcom actually agreed to do both to keep him around after he considered leaving post-DmC.
I don't know if the eSports focus of Capcom's fighting games would invalidate Rival Schools 3, but Ono got demoted in favor of the Monster Hunter guy as head of Division 2, so I expect at least some shift in their development of fighters going into next gen. Power Stone 3 would be an entirely different sector, a party game with a legacy behind it that can sell on both nostalgia and just being a fun game, plus it could easily be a lower-budget title like MM11 and still come out great.
I know this is all conjecture but Darkstalkers has been in a weird place for a while now that I don't know if it can escape. Capcom sees it as crossover fodder, likely because doing a full game that does it justice would be too expensive for what it would sell today.
>SNK went bankrupt just making 1080p 2D sprites. Actually.jpg KOF XII and XIII sprites are 480p. Also said Capcom title would need to have fluid animations to not look obviously inferior to 3s in that regard so it would be even more expensive.
Isaac Anderson
Remake 2 was garbage though.
Joshua Sanders
>3s in that regard so it would be even more expensive. Even if Bill gates funded this game Capcom simply wouldn't want to make it due to the sheer amount of hours they would have to work. Spritework is no joke man. And this user is asking for 4K spritework.
Ayden Campbell
Yeah, the suits would kill the idea asap. If I'm not mistaken the process used in Skullgirls is less expensive but even then you have that it had a small roster that took a good time to grow so it's still something that requires quite a lot of work.
John Harris
Capcom will never make another 2D fighter ever again.
Luke King
...yeah? Why anyone wouldn't want to constantly strife to achieve the closest to perfection? Heresy grows from idleness after all.
Actually SF already uses some Xrd-style tech, notably in the way they manipulate depth and perspective.
Liam Ward
I just want Dragon's Dogma 2 or even an english release of DDO.
Carson Lopez
isn't DDO shutting down?
Grayson Williams
>Implying you miserable FGCucks deserve a new fighting game
Wyatt Perez
I don't know if they will, but whatever their next fighting game is, I hope it's not Street Fighter. I'd rather they revive one of their older series or finally make a Capcom vs. Capcom game. I mostly just don't want SF because I've never been that crazy about it, but people seem a bit sour on it after SFV anyway, so it may do them no harm to go in a different direction for their next fighting game anyway.
In any case, I don't think it's beyond them to make a recovery from their relatively poor showing with their fighting games, but I wouldn't count on it either.
Arc Sys haven't put out a new GG in 2, or 3 depending on how you look at it, years, they haven't put out a new Blazblue in 1 year and they haven't put out a new Blazblue that plays like Blazblue in 4 years. That's not that hard to keep up with. It's not like you have to play every single game they put out, there's plenty of time between the releases of sequels within each series.
Cooper Cruz
you know how sqaure enix have a smaller team that are making 2D rpgs in the old style like setsuna, i would fucking love for capcom to take a similar approuch to there old fight franchises.
imagine a new darkstalkers or school rivals from a smaller, more focused team that arent as concerned about post game additions or micro transactions
John Perez
You still could, even ArcSys could animate it look more smooth, they just decided not to.
Cooper Harris
Depends on the lesson they learned from SFV was "let's not repeat the things people disliked in this game" or "this game did well enough so lets do it again for SFVI"
Blake Hughes
>FGCucks still fucking can't get how animation process fucking works
Isaac Moore
Implying they fucking aren;t after fixing some of the issues when you chimps go off with "muh grpahics" and "muh roster" with the next game. You fucktards actually fucking think they are going to make another fighter after the massive shit show you fags made out over MvCI? I mean I know you Capcunts are mentally ill and retarded. But sure as fuck didn't knew you clowns were that fucking stubborn.
Dominic Wright
How else are they gonna sell 20 different Chun costumes to horny retards?
Charles Torres
That will never happen
Jack Nelson
I love SF but im also plenty sick of it. I want them to focus on other IPs too, or like you said make a Capcom vs only game.
Kayden Campbell
Examu > Capcom
Julian Anderson
SFV is the last fighting game project he's in charge of, the MonHun guy is now in charge of the fighting game division
Owen Robinson
They announce esports plans months after the game is successful. Not YEARS BEFORE IT FAILS.
Christopher Baker
Power Stone
Jaxson Cox
Ditched the clay textures monkey face looking cartooniesh art direction they took since SF4 (fuck you capcom USA)
Benjamin Cruz
>chased off all their talent like konami >haven't made a good game in over 10 years (no DMC5 and RE2make are not good) The company is a sinking ship and all their IPs are basically dead at this point.
Jason Cox
>no DMC5 and RE2make are not good you mean those massive financial successes that reviewed well? just cause you didnt like them doesnt mean there bad kid
