That isn't the problem however, the problem is primarily in the conflation of video game genres when one uses the term "video game".
As is evidenced by multiple posts ITT men and women primarily play different kinds of games (for mobile games, like candy crush, are for the most part, vastly different from more traditional games, like Call of Duty or Dark Souls and are thus played by different demographics who do not share interests). There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this, that is until marketing, business suits, and opportunity costs of gaming come into play.
It is possible to conceive that someone in the marketing department or executive suites of a big game company (like EA) could see these news stories of "Over 50% of gamers are female" and then proceed to pander to female gamers, but only in cosmetic aspects like story or character design. While there is nothing wrong with this, it isn't really profitable because the game is mechanically the same, and as such still dominated by the demographics which prefer the mechanics of that game. Once again there isn't anything intrinsically wrong with that, aside from the fact that its less profitable.
The main problem that most traditional "gamers" SHOULD have with female pandering is its dev opportunity cost. Naturally people can only do so much, and it follows that devs can only do so much with whatever budget they have. So if you ask "who cares if they include pandering to
