Because they are drawn to his pretty boy face and the sword is a phallus analog for them since they have issues with their own penises. It's a beta male's wishful thinking self insert. They see link as cool, beautiful, big phallic object he uses to beat away the bad guys and get the girl which is something they can't do so they are drawn towards escapism and bending reality to fit their own narrative.
