First time playing, what should I expect
First time playing, what should I expect
low-level comfy adventure
Lots of dying. Mostly you.
Oh, and bows are your friends. Unless enemies have them. Then this
BG1: Comfy adventure
BG2: A city with too many things to do and a great main villain
ToB: Pure kino
people who whine about low level dnd are legitimate retards
Low level casters in ad&d are about as fun as stabbing your right nut with a screwdriver.
To be an expert Dart thrower if you pick any form of magic-caster.
I SERVE THE FLAMING FIST
low level dnd is fucking boring because casters are worthless
high level dnd is fucking boring because non-casters are worthless
IMO the most fun levels in a TTRPG are levels 1-3 and then around level 10-12. Low level adventures are always just so wacky and don't have that air of "saving the world" that high level adventures always have.
It's much less annoying when it's not in a videogame though.
It's worse in the game. In pen and paper when you're a low level caster you can have fun hanging our with your buddies and largely get carried by them.
You have no friends in baldur's gate.
That's what I meant.
infinite save scumming
keep party size down, it divides xp to every character
Mommy, I don't feel too good.
*casts noxious cloud on your tank*
nothin personnel
Accidentally stumbling into high level encounters at level 3 not realizing how over your head you're supposed to be and finding ways to cheese through them anyway.
>went to durlag's tower really early on because i had no idea what the fuck i was getting myself into
>mfw
He did not deserve what happened to him in BG2.
One of my favorite companions in any rpg game. Really like voice acting too
Thaco.
>not using a sling and casting Strength on yourself
I WANTED INFRAVISION LIKE THE ELVES, BUT 'TIS MORE THAN JUST TAKING THEIR EYES!
>went to durlag's tower really early on because i had no idea what the fuck i was getting myself into
That's part of the experience now honestly. Once they added Tales of the Sword Coast anyone going in blind has a good chance of just wondering into stuff like that and not realizing it was mid-late game content.
>romance viccy
>that ending
>doing solo cleric run
>get to werewolf island
>realize I can't use any weapon that will damage the greater wolfwere
>picked Lathander kit for APR stacking with boon (I'm not sure if Helm's seeking sword or Talos lightning bolts would work tho)
>shillelagh and flame blade don't have high enough enchantment
>its health regen outheals wand of the heavens
>Glyph of Warding does fuck all against it high throws since it's save vs. negate
F U C K
I'm certain I did werewolf island as a cleric before. Wasn't there a staff that can harm that guy? Or one of the spells work has to against him because I'm sure I soloed that place as a cleric, I even remember the portrait I used for that playthrough
The Morninglord will forgive you if you fuck off and never return to that island. You don't need the XP if you're soloing.
Camaraderie, adventure, and steel on steel. The stuff of legends!
I have the +3 staff from Ulgoth's Beard but that doesn't even work on it (weapon ineffective prompt shows up in combat log)
I always remember trying Spiritual Hammer but it too said weapon ineffective
It keeps regens way too fucking fast to spam wands or holy smite
I haven't tried the 4th level spell Poison yet tho maybe that will finish the fucker
I suppose I will, it's not like they're undead scum or anything
That and one other part were the only areas I needed to google to see what the fuck I should be doing. I thought the dagger I found would do the trick but I could barely hit him and it didn't stop his regen.
The other area was lvl 2(?) basement in Durlag's Tower. I didn't know to hit the practice targets. They had loot on them so I figured it was like any other thing that I just loot and move on.
Good game. Beginning is rough but I had some fun. Moved onto BG2 now.
A good game that will feel dated compared to today's standards depending on how much of a zoomer you are.
Durlag's Tower is Weenie Hut Jr. compared to Watcher's Keep
>That final fight before demomomogogomogmogmogomgogmgomogogmgogmoogmrogormormon
holy fuck
i think i ended up cheesing it by leading them to some closed room where i could fight them one by one
You should expect to gather your party before venturing forth
You can cheese some part of it with spike traps and if you have Anomen or another single classed cleric they can take care of that skulls part. Otherwise it's insanely hard though, I played BGs probably a few dozen times and still have to reload at that part a lot
Yeah it fucks me up every single time.
I'm also too much of a brainlet for high-level D&D so my tactics never go very far.
All I can think of when fighting these sort of monsters is how neat it'd be to be able to play as one of them. This is why I can never truly enjoy a good RPG. I don't wanna play as a human or an elf, I wanna play as a multi-armed snakewoman.
I AMMMMM THE LAW
Don't forget to use your thief for screening as much as possible
Rangers also get stealth, stalkers even more so
