Thancred's fight was basically an extreme custody battle, and one he only survived by the dumb luck of being found passed out in the desert. We lost to cutscene stun shit a bunch but then later we walk up and delete them like they were nothing, because as player characters that's the only way we can face a villain with any interactivity and not win. I'd rather the cutscene stun shit than what Xenoblade 2 did, where you're forced to beat the boss and in the immediate cutscene after you're shown battered and bruised with the boss you just killed looming over you.

It isn't ever explicitly said, but The MSQ and some of the side quest heavily imply they fucked with creation magic too hard and spawned a bunch of fucked up monsters that fucked up everything.

There's also mention of a vague crisis happening outside of Amarot/Ascian areas that eventually reached them.

They literally can and have. The Company of Heroes have defeated Leviathan and Titan, and the Immortal Flames regularly fights and defeats Ifrit even before they had Arenvald and Fordola. There's a plaque of normal troops that made it back alive from Ifrit, and a squadron of summoners in the SMN questline.

I'd say White Mage is the most fun right now because the other two got kinda assfucked while the Lily-Rework makes shit a LOT smoother since now you get a Lily every 30 seconds in combat so you don't need to rely on spamming Cure1 to get your "Free" heals, every 30 seconds you can do a instant big heal or shield for no MP cost, now you can heal when it is needed as it is needed, add to that that the old MP management skills are there and you genuinely have a lot of breathing room to play with the offensive tools.

The next expansion will feature a ranged DPS and a caster DPS. Arcanist's focus on DoTs will be changed to circular AoE attacks, and while this will have little effect on Scholar it will render Summoner closer to how it behaves in older titles. This focus on DoTs will be translated over to Necromancer, the new caster. Though we debated heavily on whether it should learn Dark Arts in the same manner as Blue Mage, per Final Fantasy V Advance and later releases, we've come to the conclusion that it cannot wreak the same kind of havoc on raids and other balanced endgame content as Blue Mage potentially could, and so it will not be limited.

The new ranged will be Cannoneer, using Combine to achieve a wide array of ranged-damage effects (as well as some support effects), with a damage-output somewhere between Bard and Dancer (closer to Bard). Three ingredient skills with a Blitzshot, Buckshot and Blastshot modifier skill allows for a wide array of potential abilities and power-levels depending on your current needs. We think fans of authenticity will be pleased by its Open Fire area-of-effect skill.

There's no reason to believe that's the WoL though, especially since there's no real way that the 14th would have made Hydy without sacrifice.

In fact, it's very likely that Hydy isn't the same kind of entity that Zodiark is, since 3/4th of all Amaurotians where already sacrificed to Zodiark it seems rather unlikely they'd just make another version of it but opposite which can then match it in battle and split it in pieces.

Chances are Hydy is merely a facet of Zodiark, and the inner struggle of it all caused a split. We know Emet's earlier comments on Amaurotians never disagreeing as they did with Zodiark and Hydy cannot be taken literally as the hall of debates already shows they did disagree quite frequently and adamantly, but this was something unique.

Regardless, it seems rather foolish to think we have all the pieces already. It's certainly not impossible that the WoL was the 14th, but so far there has been little to no actual evidence pointing to it.
