Disney did it when they were hemorrhaging money while making strides to push the medium of 2D animation forward because the path was completely unpaved. It was an understandable cost saving measure at the time and they don't do it anymore now that they have basically infinite money.

I assume that head fin snaps forward, the head extends, and the hands open up or something for its gigantic form and they designed it with that Kaiju type transformation in mind. I think it looks kind of cool though.

I haven't been following this super close, but I -think- the issue is that they said "We cut the dex down because we can't just animate X00 pokemons" but then they used the same old animations anyway, implying that the aforementioned reason was an outright lie.

The narrative that "we are cutting Pokemon to improve graphics" is a made up one, what was said was that adding every Pokemon at this point would take too much work, detract from other aspects of the game, and that they want to give the new Pokemon a chance to become somebody's favorite instead of being overlooked before it even comes out.

No, the original explanation for the culling was that with the new hardware they could make Pokémon more "expressive". There's not really a different way to interpret that, other than "better animations".

that is still a weak reason, for all of Gamefreaks resources they could hire 200 South Koreans tomorrow and get the models and rudimentary animations done in a month. with 824 pokeon (region specific legendaries can be removed from that list) that leaves about 4 pokemon per person to model which doesn't account for the models already made in lets go. Face it the cheapskates won't learn until they fail

Umm, no, it wouldn’t. They already have all the 3D models, animations, and sounds for each Pokemon since Gen 6. They don’t even need to fit them in the overworld, since all people really want to do is transfer their favorites from their old games into the new games using Pokémon Home. That was possible in every gen up until now, and there is no good reason for it, considering that all of the assets for every old Pokémon already exist, and would just need to be imported. If you cannot even import existing assets to a system with better hardware, then you are a terrible developer, and there’s nothing wrong with me saying that.

They said Dynamax was so every Pokemon would have a use, then a month later announced Gigantmax which gives certain Pokemon exclusive broken moves like a 130BP water attack that also lays Stealth Rock. Furthermore, if they wanted a balanced meta they would just lock off non native Galar Pokemon from the VGC, except that's already been the case for like a decade. Gamefreak is fucking lying.
