WHM is the best healer if you want to actually tunnel vision focus on healing as Afflatus Misery rewards your for using GCD heals.
SCH is the best for healing 2nd because it's mostly off the global cooldown.
AST is 3rd because it's cards mean you are juggling 3 things (cards/dps/healing).

Combination of good DPS and extremely good healing. They're the closest thing to a traditional RPG "mage healer class" this game has and it's very hard to fuck that up.

I'd recommend you try it out both WHM and SCH and see what you like, both have concepts you work with as an AST but are much more dedicated to that role (regen vs shields for example)

I really like it, but I dunno if I should have paid as much as I did for it. I kind of disliked him in general because it felt like a Rehash of Zenos. "Unstoppable super-fighter dude keeps showing up to beat our asses in a scripted scene even though we could've easily beat his ass if they let us" and it was just boring because we already did this shit with Zenos.

No shit, no gods actually exist in XIV, they're just summoned as primals through faith and aether. But Shiva, Moggle Mog, Thordan, etc are all based on actual people that existed, it's entirely possible the Twelve have a real origin of some kind that's been warped over time and led to people deifying them.

Had reality not split in the process, the world would have still ended and everyone would have died.
Remember, Hydaelyn was only summoned to seal away Zodiark, that's her job. She could care less if the world ends and everyone dies, as long as Zodiark remains sealed away. Thats why she is so hell bent on stopping the Ascians.

Watch the 9th cutscene in the Shadowbringers quest at the inn again, and then get back to me if you still can't figure it out
